@fjmor100 Somebody on SB channel said M's version of OHN was best ever. Hence I sought it out and what I heard appalled me. In my view JE is a potential operatic singer, SB is not. She has had limited training only and at her age her voice would not stand up to the rigours of opera. Jackie is young and has true operatic potential. However, I doubt she will choose this route as the real money is in crossove/rclassical route.
Lastly, true opera singers do not use mic's, JE,SB do. I rest my case.

They are taught to project their voices,It is part of their training. Opera was around long before mics were invented. Verdi, Puccini did not allow for such accoutrements. Is this a wind up?

Oh, my! Take away the mike and she has no voice. Pretty face with great presence but no vocal skills at all. The atmosphere, slinky dress and audience's enthusiasm doesn't make up for the lack of the use of vocal folds and diaphragm. No resonance and breath support on display. She would need a vocal make-over in my voice class. But she is most importantly - popular. Like most things today: superficiality at 100% and substance at about 10%. This version is terrible. She basically just layered the original version from 1993. Her voice was much stronger back then so it's easy to tell when she layers her new voice with the old voice. Her new voice is a soft whisper. All the powerful notes come from the original version. It sounds terrible together. It's almost like two different people are singing.

@zanoases When I first heard Mariah, many years ago, I thought: WOW!!! One of the greatest voices I've ever heard. Since then, I've stopped listening to her music. Sadly, whoever does her arranging, in my opinion, has ruined the pure beauty of her voice. This piece of garbage confirms my thinking.

Oh, my! Take away the mike and she has no voice. Pretty face with great presence but no vocal skills at all. The atmosphere, slinky dress and audience's enthusiasm doesn't make up for the lack of the use of vocal folds and diaphragm. No resonance and breath support on display. She would need a vocal make-over in my voice class. But she is most importantly - popular. Like most things today: superficiality at 100% and substance at about 10%. There is something for everybody in America.

There was a black lady in Mariah's background at about 0:40-0:48 shaking her head in disapproval; not sure why. Everyone else is smiling & cheering. Anyway, this version is far better than her 2010 ABC live version.

Although I really enjoyed this, To me Celine Dion's version really takes the win. Her version has more depth and really makes you listen to the lyrics. Having said that Mariah is Mariah and she's very talented :)

This version is terrible. She basically just layered the original version from 1993. Her voice was much stronger back then so it's easy to tell when she layers her new voice with the old voice. Her new voice is a soft whisper. All the powerful notes come from the original version. It sounds terrible together. It's almost like two different people are singing.
