How is poverty a choice? Not everyone in America can be rich or have jobs, because the system can not handle every single person working. Since its a man made system there are flaws, and the richer only get richer while many people are losing their homes. So since your saying poverty is a choice then lets see you create a system were there are jobs for everyone.

On the other, nothing would stop her from using her intellectual capacities and the support of her daughter to avoid being homeless. Who makes the choices for her? The government? The debate between compassion and the Constitution. Poverty is a choice.
She's homeless, nobody ever said she was starving! Either way, there are loads of medical conditions which can cause the weight to stay on. If she's been eating steady meals on a regular basis then there's no need for her to be skin and bones!

Also, 23% of the homeless population are veterans according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. I would recommend that you go out and spend some time with the people who you despise. You would learn something about how the world works and then you may see the need for alleviating suffering.

You don't know what she has been through. not all overweight people are over-eaters. She could have a very slow metabolism or other digestive issues that are complicated by having to eat what she can get. The stress of homelessness alone can cause digestive/metabolic issues She is homeless and obviously has a complicated history. Don't judge what you don't know.

I was a former bodybuilder and I ate 7 times a day to keep my metabolic rate up, now since I have a degenerated lower spine I been bedridden for most of the time in these last couple years, I eat one meal a day (not seven like I did) but Im a 85 lbs heavier eating less but Im so much less active but Im not able to be active like I once was. I know the truth of what you say myself.
I do have compassion and I'm not a heartless person. Yes maybe that dog keeps her company and happy, but if she's homeless for 38!? years.. why does she have the added expense of the dog? sure, maybe she rescued it? but rescue yourself and save that money, get yourself stable and then get a dog. Maybe I'm missing something but homeless people need to make proper decisions so they can get them selves on track, and paying to feed a dog everyday isn't the best thing to do.

I have my struggle with depression, anxiety and such, but still have family around and roof over my head. Good way to get some perspective.
