A bloke reckoning to be Gordon Holmes (jockey on 3rd here) got talking to us once at Doncaster races. I was only a kid but my dad reckoned he was a fraud. His tips certainly stunk !
This takes me back to my youth and its great to see Night Nurse again. The beauty of film is that Night Nurse will never die. I may be a bit soft but this has brought a tear.
abt w a stephenson chase well im sure it was at newcasle then next i think at wetherby why cant we have a race put in place forever if the south can doit we can also
im lookn at my racecard haigh whiskey novice hurdle final for sat 20th march at newcastle i remember midnight court won the opening race it was the the buist motors land rover hunters steeple chase qualifier so within a month the 2nd went hc wota shame but night nurse was awsome there im 45 but some of these greats and they are shud b remembered like u say tingle creek, in the north they seem 2 honour then quickly put under carpet when no ones lookn take the late great w a stephenson nov ch
@Cheesebody I disagree entirely. I don't think Night Nurse went at his best for O'Neil. Paddy had him going at his best, but Ian Watkinson really suited the horse. O'Neil gave Night Nurse a pasting at Newcastle, I think it was, and the horse was never the same after it.
sorry but i dont agree, was the newcastle race a 3m hurdle before he went chasing?but paddy only rode himover hurdles if i remember, but i do agree that a lot of the jockeys from that era pasted horses especially at the festival.
It was a chase, after Watkinson was forced to retire. Night Nurse wasn't going well and O'Neil pasted him. Anyway I'm not a big fan of O'Neil, but each to his own.
Does anybody have the full race record for Night Nurse?
There's a Wikipedia page about Night Nurse which needs expanding.
It's amazing there is not even one tribute to Night Nurse considering he was the higest arted hurdler of all time. Not even a lowly handicap is named after him, no statues, no awards. What a disgrace.
Following on from my previous remarks, if ever a horse deserved to win a Gold Cup it was Night Nurse. A top chaser of the best order.

thank you for that. Night Nurse - one of the greatest, and really should have won a Gold Cup. Great to hear the commentators of my youth, too!
