  • One of the best films with Anthony Hopkins in; its a great story, great location and well performed by all. Hopkins was also good in the BBC film Across the Lake where he plays the late Donald Cambell. Great music too!

  • Strange seeing Hopkins so young. He is a marvellous actor, I have yet to see him mess up in his roles even in his old age he is brilliant. Watch 'Fracture' 2007, if you think I lie!

  • After reading the description and watching the video I won't need to download the movie :-)

  • Anthony Hopkins never had a glamorous, film-star appeal about him but always brings an intense, dangerous edge to his roles.

  • Thanks for this one more GREAT job from you.

You should be making film trailers for a living.

  • Sir Anthony was brilliant in this film.

  • Thanks for posting this. I have read the novel several times, but never saw the movie. I wonder why the soundtrack did not include bagpipes. It would give it more of a Scottish feel.

  • I just watched a hacked version of this movie. Noticed that the hunslett line "cheers you mad bastard" and the last line of the movie "you're just a professional bastard" were cut from the version. are they in the PAL DVD?

  • @arflix Probably. They kept the lines in when it was shown on T.V in the U.K. Same as the dogs name in the Dambusters...It isn't politically correct nowadays but they keep it in the film and don't bleep it out. The British telly audience is probably less sensitive than in the US.

  • @JollyRodders I'm happy to report that the free version on Hulu has left the lines in. Now I need to figure out how to get a downloaded copy of this version of the movie.

  • Proper 'old school' adventure film.

    'No bloody biscuits...' Priceless.

  • Really,REALLY wish the people who own the rights to this film would finally wise up and release it on a U.S. region compatible DVD!! Oh well I guess they just don't need the money!!

  • You can probably hack your DVD player to play different regions. Just google the brand of your player and include the word "hack." I was able to do this with my DVD player.

  • @spideyfreak55 Most DVD players in the U.K will play NTSC format videos. You've just got to make the player multi region which usually means pushing a few buttons on the remote. I just received a DVD of "Talvisota The Winter War" in NTSC format from Korea...It's hard to get in PAL...and it plays great. I've heard that US players don't usually play PAL DVDs though. I don't know if that's true. If they do order a copy from Amazon etc.

  • This one of the best films ever made, but the fist fight in the Highland Graveyard is nothing but a priceless piece of camp.

  • Great comments ...well observed information.

    Thanks.

  • @MatlockJack "we'll be watching you!""I hope you learn something!"

  • @dirkwestwood

After he's just rolled downhill to the gravestone, I had to think about that for a moment!

  • Sir Anthony Hopkins as the Milk Tray Man!

  • Funny how the music in the old films is much better than anything today, isn't it...

  • Got to agree, and the quality of films was also better back then too in some instances, now people just re make

  • This is a fantastic video and a brilliant theme from a much loved film from my childhood. I can't thank you enough for putting it on.

  • Thanks for a great comment.

  • Nice, nice. Wally Stott did a lot of those cool arrangements on the Scott Walker records. Later had a sex change and became Angela Morley.

  • Was thinking of mentioning Angela in the trivia.

Thanks for puttting me on to the Scott connection ...great information!

  • An absolute crackerjack!

I was trying to get the music to this film earlier this year and couldnt find it anywhere.

Youve also managed to include all the bits they cut out on the telly. Excellent job, many thanks for posting it!

  • No problem ...I'm glad it took you back!

    Thanks for the support.

  • This video definitely includes 2 scenes routinely cut from daytime viewing:-

    1) The Harpoon shot (during the finale)

    2) The castle crossbow shot (close to the finale)

The TV version also censors the boat collision and subsequent sniping at the stranded bad guys by Hopkins - not sure if included here.

  • I've seen all those scenes from daytime screenings (film 4 & more4)

  • Believe they're not true to the cinematic originals. The impact of the harpoon and crossbow is sanitised, plus the bloodsplash of the stranded bad guys in the water.

  • Thanks for your comments.

It's back on Film4 this afternoon 2:25pm, by the way.
