i remember my parents giving me all of the school house rocks to watch.i think i was the only 4 year old who knew the preamble to the constitution by heart.lol
a band i was in a long time ago cover this song (along with my hero zero & lucky seven sampson) at a multi-band performance of schoolhouse rock songs in houston in the 90s.
I always loved this one. It was so beautiful! I remember those days when cartoons took precedent on saturday mornings! Beautiful voice, so haunting. My sister and I loved this song! Nothing compares to schoolhouse rock songs, nothing even comes close. I feel so blessed to have grown up in that time, such a wonderful time to be a kid. I love the 70's and 80's!
i just want to concur with translyvania50, I was a child of the 70s. I can't tell you how awesome School House rock shaped the minds of young children. In their videos like Figure 8 my all time favorite next to my other favorite "Verb ..That's Whats Happenin", you got educated entertained and enlightened all at the same time. I learn to appreciate animation, jazz & classical music and education all at the same time.
I'd love to see this song redone just as a piano piece with the damper pedal throughout the song. That would be great. It reminds me of romantic music from the 1800's and jazz from the time period, a strange but fitting mix!
i don't know why people think this and little twelve toes are scary lol. i think they're beautiful haunting melodies. i'll always remember how to make... a figure eight... without skates
Well, Little Twelvetoes had a bizarre alien character and tried to teach kids base-12 math; as for Figure Eight, it just had a chillingly sad musical piece.
*sigh* I did Schoolhouse Rock live. Well yesterday was our final performance. Now that I hear any of the songs it makes me so sad inside because I miss it. I love figure 8.
DUDE i have been looking for the cover by elliott forever!! ive seen the vid of him playing but can you tell me where i can download the song?? MANY THANKS

Schoolhouse rock is rather depressing anyway.. I don't know why. It sort of scares me. But it's very creative and educational.. so yay?

Here's something really cool YouTubers, The number 9 multilpied by ANY NUMBER, the answer, when added up will equal 9
Example: 9x9=81 (8+1=9) Example: 9 x 27.6=248.40 (2+4+8+4+0=18) 1+8=9
Cool Right.

Wait, so did Elliott Smith sell this to SchoolHouse Rock or whatever? Or did he take it from HERE for HIS album?
jennnxNJ 3 years ago
This is from the 1970s. It was written by Bob Dorough. Elliott Smith's version is a cover.

when it transitions to the multiplication table part, the melody gets very beatle-esque

It sounds sort of gloomy. The tune...
'If you skate, on thin ice.
You'd be wise, if you though twice.
Before you made another singal move.'
*kids falls in*

But it is sort of cool in a way. Like, for people who need to learn math facts.
