Is this camera still available to purchase in the UK? I see it on Amazon but its an astronomical £560+ pounds with the 18-55 VR kit which is a bit steep for me.
@jane1975 You could probably pick it up relatively cheap now as the new D5100 is out, however in my opinion the small bonuses you get are not worth the big price tag it holds. The only problem is that you'd need to find a D5000 new which would be rather difficult. However I'm sure you could pick one up second hand relatively cheap!
Mine one day just suddenly shut off and I haven't been able to get it to turn back on even after charging it. Can anyone help me out? :/ I don't know what happened.
I love my d5000 its a very good camera. i personally did research on it when i first got into photography and it truely is a great cmaera for beginners and learning camera control.. BUT dont get to used to the graphic display because you will never learn what the numbers mean youll just been used to seeing what the internals of the camera are doing and not all cameras have that program so its good to start off with graphic but then go to classic so you can know what the numbers actually mean.
Does anyone know if Nikon entry level and mid level SLR Cameras have the option of remote shooting using a computer and via a personal computer control all the camera settings and store pictures in the computer like they do in the Photo studios. If they do, what is the name of the software that I can buy. I know the Canon cameras have this option.
could you please advise me weather i should buy the D5000 +twin lens @ £499 or the D3100 +single lens @ £450 if it were your money which one would you buy? (this will be my first dslr) please help this is doing my head in !!
@Ninocompain i'm sure the space concerning what's semi professional and pro is smaller now. d7000 is perhaps all we all want. visit... freedslr . com remove spaces and get a chance to bring home a Brand New Nikon D7000
Every such question is pointless if you don't specify what it is that troubles you. For example: "Hey! I like Canon's AF system but I like Nikon's jpeg engine, too. Which you think is more important to make a decision based on?" Both cameras probably suit you perfectly. Get into the specs and try to make your own decision.
In an attempt to be as straight forward as possible, I forgot to choose wisely my words therefore I came across as impolite. I beg your pardon for that. I'd suggest you to visit dpreview dot com and use its side by side camera comparison tool to see what sets the two cameras apart.
@PhotographersOnUTube Great! Thanks, I'll do that. Im trying to get hold of Canon 550D because i'm thinking of getting a camera for a long-term. I can get a camera for £300 price right now but £600 for the 550D is making me wait :)
@MrRusswarez go to imaging comparison website and then decide. It's why I went with the 5000 and not the others. more bang for the buck. if you can live with a 2.7 rather than a 3.0 lcd screen, i'd say go for it.
@MrRusswarez go to imaging comparison website and then decide. It's why I went with the 5000 and not the others. more bang for the buck. if you can live with a 2.7 rather than a 3.0 lcd screen, i'd say go for it. they are very reasonably priced now.
It would really help if you could answer a question... I'm upgrading from my lame upper level point-and-shoot Fujifilm because I'm probably now an intermediate to professional photographer.
Question: would you recommend something like a Sony A230/Sony A390 or this Nikon D5000? Thanks so much!
@ArmeniaKharabakh i would say d5000 becaust its cheaper than 550D and same quality as well same quality for video filming etc.. i have d5000 and 550D and im so dumb why the hell i buy this 2 camera and they are same lol now im planing to move canon 7d ..
i have a suggestion for a video camera small enough to fit perfectly in a mans neck tie pin perfectly and can record perfect video images and can record perfect sound and can reecord perfect video image
@WhatDigitalCamera Comparing the nikon d5000 to the nikon d3100, which one seems to be the best choice nowadays? Its price has decreased since they released the new d5100. I´ve read some reviews telling that d3100 is a more modern but since the d5100 is now cheaper, doesn´t it make more sense to go for it, even if it is discontinued? thanks for you videos.
@jerryteflon This is just my personal opinion, but 1st of all i must say that im not Canon or Nikon kind of fan, i have no problem in using bouth brands, acording to the model, and i had contact with many cameras, in fact my actual camera is the Pentax K7.
Now, for my personal opinion, the d5000 takes good quality pictures in almost any condition, and also has the Active D-lighting funcion.
That is the most random place i have ever seen someone conduct a review....I feel like you just went to see a movie and you waited until everyone left...
Hi. I want to ask you. I am going to buy a dslr. I will need to make video & taking pictures. Which camera would you recommend to me? I would like to buy neither D5000 nor D3000.
i really hate how they say nikon. ik its the UK and im open to all cultures:) but im not used to how they say it and, it pisses me off. :( lol nice camera though!!

Guys, please, can anyone with enough experience or anyone pro in this field answer this question that I really need to know: Which camera brand in general do you think is the best, Sony, Nikkon, Canon, Fujitsu, or what??? I know you might be saying that depends on which camera we're trying to compare, but I'm talking in general. Because each brand has it's specific general trends and attributes. I really need to know guys what do you think, and this can be a discussion among pros who comment.
@21mrgwalker To get more depth of field you need to use a small lens aperture. A smaller sensor, as found on most camcorders will also give you more depth of field. This video was shot deliberately with more shallow depth of field, which is achieved by using a camera with a large sensor (the full frame Canon 5D Mk.II) with a wide lens aperture.
My main complaints with this camera is that there is no auto focus in HD mode and the microphone is mono and it's rubbish. It does take very nice pictures though.
Man, the D5000 feels a little Bulky and Heavy and gives me weird feel when I hold it. Canon Feels better (550D). But the functions and Lenses of D5000 gets my attention.
If I'm not mistaken live view is being able to see the picture your about to take in the LCD screen instead of only in the viewfinder. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong...
What a corporate douche; 'the d5000's plus is the video mode'. The video mode is awful, on both the d5000 and the d90. I wish they didn't put that carp in there, and instead put a couple more function buttons on the outside.
@neftyjac get the d5000 its the cheaper out of the two also, it has the largest image sensor size inside the olympus is the smaller out of the two, and the nikons menu system seems to be easier, i wanted the olympus but it takes either compact flash, which sucks because that shit is old and gay, or xd memory card which also suck cock and are slow so stick with the d5000 and you will be happy or i will you give your money back
im really getting a hard time about deciding which camera should i buy im thinking about nikon d5000, canon EOS 500 and the olympus E-620 i really would like some recommendations....
@neftyjac i have both th nikon d5000 and the cannon 500 i recommend the nikon because it is much more btter made and to me the picture quality is better, recommendation: if you are going to get a dslr NEVER get any camera other than nikon or cannon. take it from an experienced photographer
@neftyjac get the nikon d5000 i've had for 8 months and love it.. its great.. you can see some photos i've taken with it in my flickr acct (flickr username veronikaa) hope it helped :)
@neek247 basically all the photos taken from august 2009 until dec 15, 2009 were with the 18-55 mm lens... all the photos after that were with the 50mm f/1.8
@neftyjac i will go for olympus because they are like the pros at making DSLR's. canon and nikon are also good but the reason thy are used more is because they are heavily marketed.
This model is defective it suffers a suden dead sydrom, it means one day all of sudenly will not switch on. Also the autofocus in Live View is not fuctioning and you will lose the chance to take great photos if you try to use it in critical photographic moments. Shame to Nikon for selling a product that knows is defective. According to Chinese rumors there are more defective models ( all new models) this model I know by sure that i
that actully is is the VR2

If I'm not mistaken live view is being able to see the picture your about to take in the LCD screen instead of only in the viewfinder. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong...

@DubaiNoob i ask if you have a cannon to begin with why get a nikon as well. you will than need two lense mount types and such.

What a corporate douche; 'the d5000's plus is the video mode'. The video mode is awful, on both the d5000 and the d90. I wish they didn't put that carp in there, and instead put a couple more function buttons on the outside.

You're an idiot the D5000 HD video quality is really good, the only thing is that auto focus it lacks but that ok. Learn to use it and it rules.

@neftyjac i have both th nikon d5000 and the cannon 500 i recommend the nikon because it is much more btter made and to me the picture quality is better, recommendation: if you are going to get a dslr NEVER get any camera other than nikon or cannon. take it from an experienced photographer

@neftyjac Nikon D5000 OFC, not just because it has a lower price, but also because it has NIKKOR. :)
