Why do people still take this nonsense seriously? Communism is a failed system. They are libertarian when they want to gain power, and authoritarian after they gain it. Do you have any clue how many job losses would be created by $15/hour minimum wage? Probably not. Communism only serves to waste the taxpayers' money with no hope of becoming a competitive party. Thanks.
I don't know if it would effect high-income people as much as it would effect low-income people, but you may well be right (these issues are not easy to work out). There are a great number of jobs out there that an employer couldn't/wouldn't justify paying $15/hour that would simply be lost under this system. Things like employment programs for students, underemployed members of society, etc.that are often pegged at low wages would probably be cut. I fail to see any wisdom in Mr. Boyden's ideas.
I doubt that many small business owners could afford the increase. The larger corporations could shoulder it, if such a wage increase didn't fly in the face of their profits.
Without some sort of wage subsidy from the government then jobs would indeed be lost.
I think you're absolutely right. And one has to wonder how many jobs the government would be subsidizing. For large corporations' part, one impact would be to drive a lot of their demand for "lesser-skilled" labor elsewhere. And of course, any increase in costs would just be passed on to the consumer.
I wonder what the impact would be if money from general revenue were used to subsidize the minimum wage.
Alternately, the funds needed for a wage agumentation might be taken from social welfare. Streamlining the bureaucracy of that program would probably help; Fewer bean-counters means more beans.
It's a difficult situation, but I believe there is an equitable solution.
you want to free a bunch of terror suspects? why is that?
yes the afghan war is being fought wrong (more as an occupation than going after the taliban) but that doesn't negate the fact that terrorists and the threat they pose are real.
Also, our military is volunteer basis only. People in universities are smart enough to decide whether or not they should enlist. there is nothing wrong with recruitment on campus
Perhaps, but I think you're missing the nationalist influence of our society. Nationalism can drive even the most talented and intelligent person to act foolishly.
Televised propaganda is pretty powerful as well. The military is presented as a great adventure; saving lives, halting drug traffick, helping the far off people of wherever.
I personally don't feel it is appropriate for recruitment to take place in universities or colleges.

A minimum wage of 15$/Hr. would, of course, be disasterous under our current economic structure.
Those with high paying jobs would need to take a hit to thier income to equalize this imbalance.

don't agree with Sovietist Socialism. But I agree with your point on this issue. Read Marx, end authoritarianism.
