If you researched about degus, you will see that they need a bigger cage than a prairie dog, and chinchillas too, because they love climbing, i hope you let them run around the house to stretch and get some energy out... They can become aggressive because dont have the space they need, prairie dogs grow to the size of a chihuahua... Get a bigger cage, and im sure your pets will be happy...
Thats honestly sad. They look like they get along but that pathetic excuse for a cage is WAAAY to small to house them all. Upgrade cage or get rid of pets. I mean seriously man.
This is cruel.Having these animals in this tiny space without any accessories or toys. These poor animals are living a dull boring life.Give them away,re-home them, sell them! they dont deserve to live in that crowded rusty dirty disgusting cage!
Its good, that you like animals, but this cage is really to small! You can make it yourself, it's cheaper than you buy. You can find lot of good pages, by tipping in google: cage building. But if you would like, I can help you, give some good advice about it.
I don't mind them all living together cause they like colonies and eachothet. But you really need to get a bigger cage. Even if you take them out for 80% of the day that other 20% of the day they still need room to hang out and play.
this is like some kind of animal abuse/hoarder video clip you would see the humane society advertising on tv to help save animals from bad conditions...>,>
Way to small! Imagine if you were a Degu! You stayed in this little celler! Please, please don't keep them there! Get a bigger cage! Sooo small! Don't get a Degu as they need alot of attention and a BIGGER cage! Not a little one for hamsters! Get bigger cage if you don't have money for them then sorry but if you got these animals from somebody who gets them then if they saw where you keep them they would never sell them to you! Please get a bigger cage! They wont have a happy life otherwise.
You have a nice bunch of animals there,, I love degus! Mine just passed away a few days ago... But I have to agree, this cage would be about big enough for two degus,, you need a much larger space! If you really can't afford or have the space, maybe consider getting rid of a few, but at least in pairs, dont leave any alone! I really hope you can get a larger space for them so you won't have to seperate any from their buddies! goodluck! :)
@Gemmerrrr1 It's not that big of a deal, people keep chins and rabbits or chins and guinea pigs together and they also have different sleeping patterns but they still keep eachother company and more importantly, won't get one another preggers or fight. And actually their diets are pretty much the same, pellets of hay, all 3 of those animal types are grass eaters, so they get hay and hay pellets. I'm more concerned about the number of them in the cage.....
That's a hamster cage?... What is a chin doing in a hamster cage?.. Even 6 degus in that cage would be too small! but a chinchilla too!? My chinchilla is on her own, and her cage is huge. you are not capable to have so many animals in sucha confined space. I would be happy to take your chin from you. What a cutie. She/he deserves better! Fuckin crewl.
This cage is too small for even two degus living in it! Get a propper cage and split them apart! Chins and degus living together is unfair!
Those poor animals, intelligent, inquisitive, active animals, crammed together in a tiny cage with no stimulation whatsoever. At least the degus have others of their kind to interact with. For the prairie dog and the chinchilla this is extremely cruel.
I hope you can see past the instinctive response to be defensive in the face of critisism and realize that, as the keeper of these living beings, you have a responsibility to do your best to make their lives enjoyable, or at least bearable.
Your animals have the look of prisoners. It is said prairie dogs can die of depression and yours looks in danger of it. They require wheels for exercise and, if not spending most of their day playing with their bonded owner, another prairie dog. You may not understand it but they way yours are kept is very cruel. I wish you'd think about their needs for a moment instead of collecting them like postage stamps.
Oh, they look soooo unhappy! How could you buy allthose animals when you didn´t know anything about them and their needs?! Only a fucking idiot can do this:( I feel so much sorry for them:(
Get help!!!! That one cage is good for ONE prairie dog, witch should be housed in pairs, so you need twice that for just owning prairie dogs. Chinchillas should be housed in a much larger multi leval cage. Degus can become diabetic so its impossible for you to be houseing all these animals together and meeting there dietary needs. degus should be housed in pairs or more in a large mulit leval cage with lots of things to chew. you clearly cannot care for your animals so just sell them
basically your being selfish, you want it all but you dont want to pay out for it. I'd love a dog, a cat, some guine pigs, some degus, some chickens, a goat, a chinchilla and some gecko lizards but I live in a bloody flat so I only keep 2 degus. Take all of those animals to a rescue home except either the 1 chinchilla or 3 degus maybe. Also how can u possibly be feeding them appropriately. You sir are a bloody idiot
HELP! Can someone please reply to this or message me, after christmas I am plannign on spending last years and this years xmas money on two chinchillas/degus and a cage. problem is, I DON'T KNOW WHICH TO GET! please comment or message me :)
@n00g75 I would but my degus r 2 old to imtroduce any others (I hav tried it with multiple other degus and rodents, they play together but let any1 else into their cage and all hell will break loose)
I think it's nice that they can live together peacefully like that. =D ...Though I have to agree that the cage is too small, and that they really probably shouldn't be housed together... Although, I think the cage looks smaller in vid. than it is- at first it looked like the size cage that my 2 chins came in that was wayy too small for them (I made them a modified cat-play-pen for them now.), but I realize it's a bit bigger then that. I hope you got them new caging when you could. =) ..sorry..
deugus sleep patterns and behaviour are diffrent from the chinchilla.the chinchilla is problably exhausted and depressed. This cage is small for even 2 degus.
how bout chu get a bigger cage poor things :( look how bored they r. My chin always iz runnin around and playin. id like 2 give u a good pop in the mouth
@FeelingNerD prarie dogs, i dont know but i always thought that chinchillas and degus were supposed to be treated the same, but i would never mix them, i'd be scared the chinchilla squished my degu! he has a 3 tier cage for just him cz his brother died :/ but all those animals in a teeny cage is a bit :/ :(
I feel so bad for those poor animals every time I watch this! Either hurry up and get some proper accomodation for each of the separate species, or do the decent thing and donate them to someone/some place that can actually care for them properly.
I had 2 degus they were in a small cage too, but I didnt add my chinchilla and watch them when they are together, my chinchilla doesnt like degus, she even tries to bite them (when I let them out). Mine didn't have much space but I was making a bigger cage and I letted them out to play 1 hour or 2 and if something happened I had other cages to seperate them, (smaller, but when they fight I could seperate them).
Your pets should be seperated, but maybe let them play together (in bigger room).
I agree, too small... get a bigger cage with toys and let them out once in a while if you have a suitable room (bathroom)! Its good for degus to have company, but they need space too.
thats to small!!! we have 4 big degus and 4 little ones...they are in a huge birdcage! 6 levels and loads of branches they can climb on!
poor little things. and imagine the chinchilla and yourself.... you on a toilet a small one you just can turn around and not more... if you dont have the space then dont buy them!
wtf that cage is crap you need one with at least 3 levels i got 2 degus monday they have a wheel a ladder a hammock a little house a feeding bowl its 3ft by 4ft ur is like 1ft by 1ft get a new cage or new owner
wow... i have 2 degus in a cage thats about 1.5 metres high and over half a metre square.... that cage is far too small for even one degu... u can get cheap big cages on ebay... please please get the poor animals a bigger cage, i feel sorry for them all stuck in such a small space
I have five degus, and the cage I have just for them is 20 time the size of this, with a 6 foot parrot cage linked to a five foot chinchilla cage and then linked again to a six foot chinchilla cage with enclosed bridges between the three. even that I think is too small for 5 goos. I am horrified at the lack of space you have for these animals. please get a bigger cage and a couple of running wheels
Get a bigger cage! i have 2 degus and they alone live in a cage thats 24x18x35. Have some consideration for those animals, you wouldn't live in a port-a-loo.
That is nice that they seem not to fight, but they need separate and larger homes. You cannot feed them all the same diet as degus contract diabetes easily and have to be monitored. I hope since your comment 2 months ago, you have aquired better accomodations or else found other homes for the different species. Chins and degus ARE related, but shouldn't be forced to live so closely together.
Chinchillas need at least a 2'x2'x2' cage - taller than wide. And fruit is not good for chinchillas they only need high quality timothy hay, pellets and water. Raw fruits or veggies are very bad for chinchillas, and many don't even feed raisins (too much sugar). Dried rosehips and plain shredded wheats are the best treats in MODERATION!
That cage would even be way too small if only two degus should live in it. Putting all these species with their different needs into such a tiny thing is a really bad idea!
There are no possibility to buy a larger one at this moment. How do you think, what should the volume/area of the cage be for normal living of these 7 animals? 1 m2/m3 or still more?
Hard to tell... I do not know enough about chinchillas and I know nothing about keeping prairie dogs as pets.
5 degus (without any other animals) would need at least 120x60x140cm with at least one complete level above the ground.
Chinchillas need partners of the same species as much as degus do. And two chinchillas need a large cage as well, though I cannot give you exact measures. But I would not put them together with degus.
Degus are diurnal, chinchillas are nocturnal. That just does not work. They will annoy each other... Perhaps in a large enclosure where they can get out of each others way. But not in a cage that fits into a room...
They also have different needs for food. Fruit is quit a good addition for chins but it makes degus sick on the long run because of their disposition to diabetes.
Don't look after pets unless you have the space/money for them to live happy, re-home them if your not willing to spend money on them, I'm sure they would be happy to live with a owner that wouldn't put them all in a space that's designed for one small rodent.
As a fellow Degu owner, I feel sorry for your pet's living conditions.
@fredltu Get help!!!! That one cage is good for ONE prairie dog, witch should be housed in pairs, so you need twice that for just owning prairie dogs.
