@misskj064 Depends on the pig. Some will always stay beside you, some will run and some will just walk away from you a little bit but stay in your sight. I had a pig that would never leave the spot I left her outside. She just stayed there and ate grass and laid down. :3

Haha! I'd give it a bit of a rinse after that. You better be careful though, if they eat seeds of any fruit, they can get a bit sick. That happened to my guinea pig once and he had a sick tummy.

Be VERY careful how much watery foods you feed your Guinea Pigs, I just lost one of mine from feeding her to much watermelon, NEVER let them choose how much they can eat.

mine prefer honeydew melon, carrot, cucumber, tomato, corn on the cob, hay, fresh grass, guinea pig pellets they dont like much but eat a little, braeburn apples andc premium wild bird seed with sunflower hearts mixed in, also dandelions, dock leafs and sunflower leaves and stems. Greedy pigs not guinea pigs!

@11cloud11 dandelions arent poisonus 2guinea pigs,there are dried ones in guinea pig hay,dock leafs arent poisonus 2them 2,i read up on what is right for them &they were said to be good for them,dunno bout sunflower leaves &stems,but caterpillars,slugs &snails love em,they dont poison them so i doubt they will poison guinea pigs.Premium wild bird seed with sunflower hearts is what they sell for small birds, they dont get poisoned &neither do my pigs. that leaves nothing u said as true

@11cloud11 strawberry leaves &stems they love them too,&clover,they even eat my budlia leaves which drop off the trees &still not one illness or diarrohoea,raisins they like too,&sultanas. half of them like bananas too,gotta take the apple peel off for them cause the citric can give them coldsores, &they only ever get natural spring mineral water,i dont trust tap water &never drink it myself &never cook with it so i dont expect my g pigs to have to drink that chite. my g pigs are proper healthy

@heyheyheyheyhi14 Guinea pigs are social creatures, so if you have only one it might get lonely. It helps if you spend a lot of time playing with it, but having more than one is better. Though sometimes they might fight if you have two 'alpha piggies,' so it definitely depends on their personality. Guinea pigs make such wonderful pets... :3

Yes but not too much it can make them sick, blotted, and give them very soft stools. a slice the size of their head should be plenty (thickens 1/4in) . Watermelon=Candy to a Guinea (remember Oct. 31and that stomach ach.

Patches was a fun guy but so much care! He was one of three adults that were dumped at a pet store, the others hated him and they all spent most of their days in the yard. The others were adopted out, Patches lived happily alone until he passed on.

I'm not sure how old Patches was, as he was dumped in a wire cage w/2 other adult males who always fought with him, so I gave them the entire backyard and they avoided each other. He started looking really old at the end, then he passed away one day, but was happy and active until that day. Very fun animals, just so much upkeep!

Watermelon is fine for piggies, every once in a while. (Too much too often can probably cause tummy problems.) I usually just give mine the rind, and I keep the good part for myself. :)

Alanamuir, I'm the only one that likes watermelon here, so it usually gets a rotten spot or goes uneaten and off to the GP it went. Now only the mockingbirds are around to eat the leftover fruit.

The seeds are fine. He was an older adult when I took him in after being dumped at a pet store, and he lived another fifteen or so months with us. He probably wouldn't have made it through hurricane Ike that happened a few days after his death, as we had no power in our area and it was very hot no matter where you went.

I washed him in a special shampoo from the vet for bacterial infections as he spent  time outside but you could use a gentle kitten shampoo. I put him in the kitchen sink and wet him down with the sprayer, then soaped him up on the dirtiest parts like his feet and underside, then rinsed with warm water. Place a few washcloths down so they don't slip and injure themselves,keep your hands on their back to keep them from jumping out. Have towel ready, dry them before placing back in the cage.

I'm sort of glad that he passed before the Ike ordeal, as he was old and infirm and would've been miserable indoors. We really want a capybara but the size is an issue in the suburbs.

Hahahah, that is great! How does the guinea pig interact with the dogs? Just curious cause I was thinking of getting one and I know that pitbulls, or terriers in general, were bred to hunt vermin. Just wondering if you had any issues with this?
