jakey130486 you are the biggest idiot I've ever met. Before you try talking about a historic event, try getting your facts straight first. It was a ROYAL NAVY SWORDFISH that DAMAGED the Bismark's rudder, which made it turn in circles. Then the Royal Navy finished her off. America had hardly any action at sea in the Atlantic.
So sorry to have to tell you this, but America didn't win the war. It certainly was a great help but Germany could never have won it. What America did prevent though by it's involvement was a Soviet Europe. But thats a different discussion.
And Vietnam? I didn't see any enemy soldiers in my town!
Seriously, the US DID win World War II. The Soviet Union pulled the bulk of the load and maybe it could have even won it without the US involvement, but it was still a joint effort.
But if war is just a zero sum game that can only have one winner and one loser . . . well, you're absolutely right!
Um, if I remember correctly before the Americans entered the war Great Britain was on the verge of being invaded by the Nazis. Germany WAS winning the war until the US entered the war.
Sorry to tell you, but you remember wrong. Any threat of invasion by Nazi Germany was removed during the summer of 1940. 18 months before America entered. By the end of 1941 Germany had pretty much advanced as far as it ever would in every theatre and all the battles that turned the war from being a German victory into an Allied one were fought by the British and the Russians. America had played no part in the ground war until the Germans were in full retreat in North Africa.
So all those Sherman tanks and other equipment british used didn't hav anything to do with USA? Very interesting. I like how brits and russian always donwplay american importance in war....
In the reality without help from USA there would never been "Second battle of El Alamein". Not to forget those 200.000 volunteers from india and many others...
I include volunteers from india and others as Britain as back then it was still the British Empire. As I've stated America was a great asset during the war, but it wasn't just them who won it. My original comments were directed against the chap who seemed to think that England would have been invaded without American help. Which is not true. If it wasn't for Britain then there would never have been D-Day, in terms and a launch point, and in regards the forces used for the assault.
Without the US there would have no planes or bullets for Britian. Not to mention where would the UK have gone without US troop numbers on the western front? Plus you are leaving a major theatre of battle out....Pacific. British troops and the Ausies there. Don't forget africa AND Italy. The Brits needed American troops. There would have been no fighting back without it. The Germans would eventually have raised the stakes in attacks OR the Russians would have taken ALL of Europe. US WAS important
Germany was winning the war until they attacked soviet, i don't remember quite what but i think 60% of the military was used against soviet. usa helped against japan.
@amund94 Germany made the same mistake Napoleon made when he entered into Russian territory. They both took the land, terrain, and weather for granted. The German military were poorly equipped for Russia's harsh winters, while the Russians knew how to fight not only against it, but in it. I think, that if Germany would have stopped along the borderline or end the war at that point, they would probably be one of the most powerful nations ever.
Yes but Germany needed to get supplies from the Ukraine region to continue their war effort on BOTH fronts. Thats the key here, HItler would have likely succeded in the east had he not been pressured by the advancing allies.
the UK was on the verge of being invaded, however after the Battle of Britain, the UK had air superiority and the projected invasion did not happen because of this superiority, the BoB happened in the summer of 1940, and the USA joined the war December 1941, so to say that Britain was on the brink of invasion before the USA entered is rather arrogant (it was at a point, but over a year before the USA joined)
@Robaaaayy I will point out that the US didn't join the war, we were attacked, as Poland was attacked (but with better results because of an accident of geography, not greater virtue). After that, Germany declared war on the US. The other aspect is the Royal Navy. SEALION would have been a tough go if the Germans had air superiority. Without it, there was no chance. That is the key to the Battle of Britain.
A silly discussion really. What would have happned if USA did not involve themselves in the war (and helped prior to that) is anyones guess. My guess is: Without any help at all UK would have had to negotiate a peace with Hitler. Nazi Germany would probably have survived until today in some form or another....the Soviet Union would not have been able to totally defeat Germany alone. Just a guess :)
It wasn't an American biplane that sank the Bismarck. It was a British biplane that damaged her sufficiently for the Royal Navy to intercept and sink her with guns.
Secondly, Hitler could never have invaded England. He lost the Battle of Britain when the RAF was at it's weakest and would never have another chance at destroying it. After 1940 he never even planned to invade England again, hence why he turned on Russia, and from that point on the war was lost for him.
captainnick you can speculate as much as you like about what if hitler did this and that till the cows come home. the simple fact of the matter is he lost and im glad it happened when it did otherwise the amercians would have ended the european conflict the same way they ended japan in the pacific. jets, tanks, russians, invasions of england would have made no difference. berlin would have looked very similar to nagasaki and hiroshima.
Well, I don't know if he could of won the war but it would certainly last longer. Also, some historians argue that Hitler could of won the war if he wasn't so busy sending Jews to their deaths in concentration camps because those boxcars and that fuel/coal used to transport them could have been used to send German soldiers to the frontlines. But, still, I doubt he could of won...
He fought too many enemies and surrounded himself, that's why. The slaves made up for that by forced labor, 6 million jews building tanks and bullets for you helps a lot.
imagine if he used the Jews for soldiers. It was difficult enough to take down a country the size of Michigan with the world at your back. imagine if they had that 6 million more to spare.
If Hitler hadnt opened up the second front in the East we wouldve been wiped out. Churchill wouldve had to try for terms of surrender by early 1944. If hed destroyed the RAF or won the battle of Britain wed be gone because the British air supremacy prevented an invasion of Britain. The Death Battalions made up of criminals helped the russians win the war. Theres a really good film about it but i cant remember the name.
It reminds me of this quote my friend always uses. makes me laugh every time. when ever people tell him crap about germany, then mention how they lost in ww2. he respond with "they didn't lose, they just decided the world deserved a second chance!" Its too funny sounding not to share.
Hitler in the last years of the war went a bit nuts. And people were afraid to challenge him. We won the war because of Hitler. Strange isnt it. If they had released the Panzer Corps in Normandy earlier than they did Omaha and the invasion of europe wouldve failed. Hitler gave us a second chance because Normandy was a second attempt at the invasion of Europe.
I have to agree with you right there. The Eastern Front trapped Germany on both sides. Without the Russians to worry about, Germany could have conquered England. No England, no staging area for D-Day. No D-Day, no American troops in Europe. No Europe, no Fall of Berlin.
Also no Europe no diversion of supplies for the America Bomber and the Nuclear Bomb. America fights off Japan as it did in real life and Hitler goes on to create a new more modern army with Jet Fighters and bombers capable of reaching New York and Washington. Hitler fights America if he wins he controls most of the world if he loses then he still controls almost all of Europe. Thankfully Hitler destroyed himself.
Yea, most people don't realize just how close we were to having lost WWII. Extremely scary scenario, and too close for my own taste. One bad call on Hitler's part spared us.
If anyone were to look at the weapons and productivity of Germany vs the United States before the Eastern offensive, they will see that we were just that close to losing the war.
Indeed. I like to look at the armies pre war. America still used bi planes in the main air force. Although if you look at the state of Hitlers economy during the war then youll see that the economy in Germany was preparing for a down turn of massive proportion. But mabey that wouldnt have happened post 1943 if he hadnt lost North Africa and Italy.
Also, Hitler shouldn't have turned his attention to Russia. That was his biggest mistake as the supreme leader of Germany and ultimately marked his defeat.
Finally someone who knows what they are talking about, if he had put his attention towards Britain, if he hadn't went agianst Russia, he would have won the war, I'm not sure about invading Russia, when they were ready.
He had plenty more mistakes, such as being dillusional, bad decisions for his physical and mental health and being prescribed over 56 different drugs including methanphetamines.
You are darn right that reenactments are important! It shows just what these men went through. My grandfather was 17th airborne and served from the bulge to the rhine. The things that EVERYONE did is nothing short of amazing!
For those of you who still think reenactment is offensive to vets, here is a snippet of an interview with Harry Passage, 88, who fought in Operation Market Garden and earned a Purple Heart :
[Passage] is happy to see the war hasn't been forgotten. World War II made "some of my best memories and some of my worst," Passage said in an interview at his Milwaukee home. "I think (re-enactments) are a tribute. It keeps the name alive.
@bratwurstdimsum I agree, re-enactments are not only a tribute to those who courageously fought during that time but also allowed my generation and those to come to learn and better understand. It's nothing like having a visual aid to shed light on things. And it looks darn fun too.
Guys, I posted this video. Its just us having a bit of fun, there are no audience or paying viewers, just owners of vehicles on private property. Please respect its a bit of fun, its not meant to be accurate, just like you guys playing the medal of honor computer game. Any comments with swearing or bad language will be removed and reported.
no most of the time they are war veterans or sons of vets in previous wars who have gone to war.I do not reenact. But all vets i know do,and would probly kill you for saying such a thing. Why dont you be a man and go to a reenament and sy what you said to them. You are to pussy to.
Hahahah so the english son of a war veteran is playing the German nazi ? Thats ridiculous. You say vets will kill me for this well then half my family will kill me . In my family we have vets from Bosnia , Indonesia , and Afghanistan and trust me they are not like these nerds laughing like war is a joke playing with firework. Real vets dont want to reenact because they know war has nothing to do with playing and laughing . I have served my army time to with 14 air-assault brigade.
I'm german, too and I hate people who hate us for things that other germans did 60 years ago...
buuuuut u still lost and no they werent really....well it depends on how u mean "Stong" granted they had the best tanks...but The British had the most maneuverable planes and best Pilots....The Russians had the most people and the revolutionary T-54 tanks...The americans had the M1 Rifle...you werent really the strongest in many ways
What the hell is a T-54? I know the T-34 tank, but it wasn't the best of its time. The M1 Garand was a good rifle, but what about the thompson or the Stg44? The K98 also was a very accurate weapon.
The Brits had good planes like the Spitfire or the Lancaster Bomber, but they had no dive bomber, no flying bomb and no V2.
By the way I hate it when people still say "you lost" and "we won", I have nothing in common with the Nazis except I've been born in Germany.
oh yeh sry about the tanks thing...the T-54 was a few months post WWII I meant to say the T-34...and yes it was the best due to the fact that it had curved armour...even the german tiger tanks could not penetrate the armour easily because their shots just bounced off...the K98 was good but the M1 was a carbine whereas the K98 wasn't also the M1 is the only rifle that can go through Bullet proof glass. V1 and V2 were good :D and we didnt need dive bombers.
I've seen old footage of russian troops reporting heavy losses on t-34 tanks caused by tigers at a range of over 1,000 meters. Didn't say the T-34 was a bad tank but on several points the tiger was better
Of course the K98 is a carbine. The "K" in K98 stands for "Karabiner" - I dont think you need a translation :-D
I guess you meant the M1 is semi-automatic and the K98 is not. You're right, but the K98 had other skills: it's more accurate and has higher muzzle velocity than the M1 Carbine (nearby th same as M1 Garand) with similar ammunnition so I don't know why it shouldn't go through bullet proof glass when M1 does
Americans are nothing but fighters grit, we have no real ingenuity, we lack number, we just duke it out with macho(i think we're beginning to rival the french in number of losses) the Germans have technical advances, and the Russians have numbers and cheapness the english have money, and the middle east is just damn crazy. thats my break down of the worlds military
and your also forgettin we alone held off the Germans in the battle of britain, germany wudda bin over run by russia, operation barbarossa was hitlers worst mistake
Very true. I'm a yank and I've studied WWII for a long time. Had Germany defeated and invaded Britain, the set backs in the war effort would have been massive and possibly uncorrectable. Hitler should have let the Luft keep bombing factories and airfields instead of attacking London and major cites allowing the RAF to regroup and come back from being an almost defeated force.
If you've "studied" the war for a long time you should know the germans had ZERO capability for an invasion of britain. Even the invasion of norway was dangerously extending their capabilities.
The germans pissed away FAR too many experienced pilots and airplanes in the battle of britain. It was an abject failure for them.
Anyways it was a disgusting war that the fascists in charge conspired to get america in.
@LawrenceBarclay Britain held off the Germans, with quite a few Polish airmen along to help. Britain did indeed stand alone. Hitler had not the inner strength to stand up to stout resistance for long. His Union of All Germans never bothered to head south to Switzerland. When spanked in Britain he thought it would easier to attack his ally Russia.
I will never understand this reanacting thing. WAr is horror... pure horror. And also it is disrespectuful to those who died in these uniforms on any side.
You should rember history, honor the people who gave their lifes for what they thought is right or wrong. I am f... sure my grandfather would beat the shit out of somebody wear a uniform of his unit. I don't know if the are just militarists or dream of have been part of somthing big... but it is history that made it big. Be part of something new and maybe it becomes big too. For me it is just an excuse to keep something in memory...
i don't see why it's disrispectful. Their are probalblly a historic acting group who get together once a year and reinact a battle for a paying audience. I don't see what the problem is.
I think you will find if you actually do a little research and don't just watch 60's war films, that the Germans made extensive use of captured equipment. After Dunkirk, entire battallions were equipped with Lee-Enfields. I have quite a few pictures of all manner of Allied equipment painted with German insignia. The Germans had designations for all allied equipment.
Many reinactors at this event (myself included, the DAK soldier with the aforementioned Lee-Enfield) were attending their first event and had limited resources. The Geelong based group has presented some of the most memorable events that I have since been to and are very well run and co-ordinated. For those that like to piss on everyones parade, I have since 95% completed a Volksgrennadier impression and usually carry a KAR 98k. Rather than rubbish everyone else, learn a little beyond Hollywood.
its the crapy way you portray the soldiers if a enemy veical comes from behind you dont order your troops to stay in the truck . GET OUT, SPREAD OUT AND LAY DOWN SOME GOD DAMN FIRE! AND YET A FAT GUY COMES OVER PORTRAYING A OFFICER IN COMBAT WITH A DRESS UNIFORM AND A !!!!GOLD CLOSE COMBAT AWARD!!!! YOU GIVE ME AND OTHER REENACTORS AROUND THE WORLD A BAD NAME, YE ITS A HOBBY BUT ATLEAST PUT A BIT OF EFFORT IN.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
In my eyes has it nothing to do with keep the memory or interst of WW2... it is nothing then play. And how can You play war?? And war is not intersesting!! War is cruelty in every tiny bit. In my eyes it is nothing but sick!! There is nothing great in reanacting.
i think reenactments are very good because its to honor what happened. PLAYING war, say paintball reenactment or airsoft is disrespectful. i guess it COULD be viewed like kids playing super man.
no. balding middle-aged fat blokes dressing up as nazis is not to honor anything. it is plain retarded. anyone who thinks that war is all about dressing up and running around the countryside should join the army. these people apparently haven't had their history lessons.
that has nothing to do with it. its neither honorable or stupid. Its just a reenactment its a neutral way of showing history. Its also the equvilent to a car club, a bunch of men who collect priceless historical vehicles or weapons, and they want to show them off
I just don't know why real WW2 warfare in movies and in cinema are so exciting while doing reenactment make it stink a little.(no offence,I wanted to join a reenactment group myself)
this was filmed in winchelsea, victoria, australia.
i went to this event. these guys the (geelong military re-enactment group) put on an awesome show that included various vehicles and re-enactors firing everything from 25pdr feild guns, 3 inch mortar, vickers machine gun, bren gun, bazooka , panzershreck, mp40, and the pyrotechniques were amazing. unfortunately it's not open to the public but if youre a serious re-enactor it's definately one not to miss.
This man is Chuftain... writer of jokes. In a few moments, he will have written the funniest joke in the world... and, as a consequence, he will die ... laughing.
The Germans quite often used captured equipment. The uniform he is wearing, despite not suiting weekend event period, is an Afrika Korps uniform. Their supply lines were so sunk, that quite often they used captured allied equipment. If this doesn't fit your sterotype of a German then just stick to watching Hogans Heroes..........

I have to agree with you right there. The Eastern Front trapped Germany on both sides. Without the Russians to worry about, Germany could have conquered England. No England, no staging area for D-Day. No D-Day, no American troops in Europe. No Europe, no Fall of Berlin.
r31ncarnat3d 2 years ago
Also no Europe no diversion of supplies for the America Bomber and the Nuclear Bomb. America fights off Japan as it did in real life and Hitler goes on to create a new more modern army with Jet Fighters and bombers capable of reaching New York and Washington. Hitler fights America if he wins he controls most of the world if he loses then he still controls almost all of Europe. Thankfully Hitler destroyed himself.
captainnickface 2 years ago
Yea, most people don't realize just how close we were to having lost WWII. Extremely scary scenario, and too close for my own taste. One bad call on Hitler's part spared us.
If anyone were to look at the weapons and productivity of Germany vs the United States before the Eastern offensive, they will see that we were just that close to losing the war.
r31ncarnat3d 2 years ago

WWII33 2 years ago
Finally someone who knows what they are talking about, if he had put his attention towards Britain, if he hadn't went agianst Russia, he would have won the war, I'm not sure about invading Russia, when they were ready.

@bratwurstdimsum and i think that is one crazy morons opinion...tell that to the people that come home unable to function
Breathor 1 year ago
@bratwurstdimsum I agree, re-enactments are not only a tribute to those who courageously fought during that time but also allowed my generation and those to come to learn and better understand. It's nothing like having a visual aid to shed light on things. And it looks darn fun too.

ppl who reenact are most of the time coward nerds
Discumas 3 years ago
no most of the time they are war veterans or sons of vets in previous wars who have gone to war.I do not reenact. But all vets i know do,and would probly kill you for saying such a thing. Why dont you be a man and go to a reenament and sy what you said to them. You are to pussy to.
efleischer 3 years ago 2
Hahahah so the english son of a war veteran is playing the German nazi ? Thats ridiculous. You say vets will kill me for this well then half my family will kill me . In my family we have vets from Bosnia , Indonesia , and Afghanistan and trust me they are not like these nerds laughing like war is a joke playing with firework. Real vets dont want to reenact because they know war has nothing to do with playing and laughing . I have served my army time to with 14 air-assault brigade.

Du arschloch! Learn some history because the German army was of the most powerful military during that time period.
Szaro4393 3 years ago
buuuuut u still lost and no they werent really....well it depends on how u mean "Stong" granted they had the best tanks...but The British had the most maneuverable planes and best Pilots....The Russians had the most people and the revolutionary T-54 tanks...The americans had the M1 Rifle...you werent really the strongest in many ways
willbaboon 3 years ago
What the hell is a T-54? I know the T-34 tank, but it wasn't the best of its time. The M1 Garand was a good rifle, but what about the thompson or the Stg44? The K98 also was a very accurate weapon.
The Brits had good planes like the Spitfire or the Lancaster Bomber, but they had no dive bomber, no flying bomb and no V2.
By the way I hate it when people still say "you lost" and "we won", I have nothing in common with the Nazis except I've been born in Germany.
bere5de 3 years ago
oh yeh sry about the tanks thing...the T-54 was a few months post WWII I meant to say the T-34...and yes it was the best due to the fact that it had curved armour...even the german tiger tanks could not penetrate the armour easily because their shots just bounced off...the K98 was good but the M1 was a carbine whereas the K98 wasn't also the M1 is the only rifle that can go through Bullet proof glass. V1 and V2 were good :D and we didnt need dive bombers.
willbaboon 3 years ago
I've seen old footage of russian troops reporting heavy losses on t-34 tanks caused by tigers at a range of over 1,000 meters. Didn't say the T-34 was a bad tank but on several points the tiger was better
bere5de 3 years ago
stg 44 was a german gun i think
donkey9810 3 years ago

DirkWind 3 years ago
Very true. I'm a yank and I've studied WWII for a long time. Had Germany defeated and invaded Britain, the set backs in the war effort would have been massive and possibly uncorrectable. Hitler should have let the Luft keep bombing factories and airfields instead of attacking London and major cites allowing the RAF to regroup and come back from being an almost defeated force.
swampfox320 3 years ago
If you've "studied" the war for a long time you should know the germans had ZERO capability for an invasion of britain. Even the invasion of norway was dangerously extending their capabilities.
The germans pissed away FAR too many experienced pilots and airplanes in the battle of britain. It was an abject failure for them.
Anyways it was a disgusting war that the fascists in charge conspired to get america in.
TheTerminator97 3 years ago
@LawrenceBarclay Britain held off the Germans, with quite a few Polish airmen along to help. Britain did indeed stand alone. Hitler had not the inner strength to stand up to stout resistance for long. His Union of All Germans never bothered to head south to Switzerland. When spanked in Britain he thought it would easier to attack his ally Russia.

I suppose it's a way of keeping alive the memories of the battles and the deeds done on the day weather good or bad.

For me it is just an excuse to keep something in memory...
xatomicxboyx 4 years ago
i don't see why it's disrispectful. Their are probalblly a historic acting group who get together once a year and reinact a battle for a paying audience. I don't see what the problem is.

2)inproperly used german vocaburaly
3)germans using lee enfield rifles
4)germans using bren gun carrier
this is crap we can lern one thing from this video....dont go to astralia to see a ww2 re enactment go to the war and peace show in kent in july
sasdude1111 4 years ago
I think you will find if you actually do a little research and don't just watch 60's war films, that the Germans made extensive use of captured equipment. After Dunkirk, entire battallions were equipped with Lee-Enfields. I have quite a few pictures of all manner of Allied equipment painted with German insignia. The Germans had designations for all allied equipment.
silversamurai28 3 years ago 2
Many reinactors at this event (myself included, the DAK soldier with the aforementioned Lee-Enfield) were attending their first event and had limited resources. The Geelong based group has presented some of the most memorable events that I have since been to and are very well run and co-ordinated. For those that like to piss on everyones parade, I have since 95% completed a Volksgrennadier impression and usually carry a KAR 98k. Rather than rubbish everyone else, learn a little beyond Hollywood.
silversamurai28 3 years ago 2
its the crapy way you portray the soldiers if a enemy veical comes from behind you dont order your troops to stay in the truck .

In my eyes has it nothing to do with keep the memory or interst of WW2... it is nothing then play. And how can You play war?? And war is not intersesting!! War is cruelty in every tiny bit. In my eyes it is nothing but sick!! There is nothing great in reanacting.
xatomicxboyx 4 years ago
I think war is very interesting, no matter how cruel or sick it may be. And besides, re-enacting is fun. It's like paintball almost.
Szaro4393 3 years ago 2
i think reenactments are very good because its to honor what happened. PLAYING war, say paintball reenactment or airsoft is disrespectful. i guess it COULD be viewed like kids playing super man.
drumperson1 4 years ago
no. balding middle-aged fat blokes dressing up as nazis is not to honor anything. it is plain retarded. anyone who thinks that war is all about dressing up and running around the countryside should join the army. these people apparently haven't had their history lessons.
nevrdull101 4 years ago
that has nothing to do with it. its neither honorable or stupid. Its just a reenactment its a neutral way of showing history. Its also the equvilent to a car club, a bunch of men who collect priceless historical vehicles or weapons, and they want to show them off

The Germans quite often used captured equipment. The uniform he is wearing, despite not suiting weekend event period, is an Afrika Korps uniform.
