  • my tips is try and get them together and which ever ones are flaky don't try to work with them they will always be flaky person

  • can you use a real police department in your film and have actors act as real police for that police department or would you need a permit first? same for a public high school, can you use a real public high school and display their logo and have actors act as students or would you need a permit?

  • You "deal" with a boil on your ass. The title of this video is confrontational and disrespectful. Actors are allies not adversaries. The second concern I have is that if a director casts the right person and conducts rehearsals well, there shouldnt be any discussions on set about doing things differently. Those conversations represent a failure on the part of the director, in terms of communication and preparation before a single shot is filmed.

  • hhhh

  • Hehe - so you patronise your actors and ignore their insights into your characters and you shoot with a 30-40:1 shooting ratio (because "tape is cheap") making for a nightmare edit. I can't image how you treat your crew. Your movies must be awesome.

  • Don't be sarcastic with your actors...listen to them. They have GOOD ideas. This creates TRUST, which is the most important asset to any great film. Keep dialogue open, it will create comfort and allow your actor to give a sincere, real performance.

  • you know, I was taught, you know to treat actors like talking props, you know, and their ideas and opinions don't matter, you know?

  • I am 15, in pre production for a film I am doing and won't tell you about. But I am being realistic, it sucks right now but it is getting better. It should do well in film festivals. Also, this dude is not a good director.

  • Timing is everything. The silent pause is hard to convey, especially Actors w/ no experience..............

  • This guy sounds very unprofessional.

  • Im only thirteen and me and my friends are going to make the most ambisous movie on the internet ever! so thats why im wtchin this.

  • How'd that turn out?

  • Still in the making :(

  • @THESUPERCAT64 I just want you to know that your not the only one. I to am thirteen and I to want to make a film with my friends that the people on the internet won't soon forget. So the best of luck to you, comming from a guy with the same goals. I hope your film turns out great!

  • @THESUPERCAT64 Hey join the club!

  • @THESUPERCAT64 ...Its been a year and you dont have any uploads, are you still working on it?

  • This is great information and so true dealing with the actors outside of not having a normal film background.

  • just took an intro acting class the other night and they said that "Method acting" is largely considered the best style, although it can cause the actors major problems in real life..

  • I became interested in film making when I made a music video for a class at my last college. I recently have gotten interested in independent films. How does a beginner like me get into acting or helping out with independent movies?

  • buy a camcorder. write a scrip. and just do something to see if you really like doing this. it can be very stressful. believe me

  • Is it easy to find someone who knows a little bit about what they're doing? It would seem more ideal than me starting from scratch.

  • Weel if you take actors lessons (theatre) and you like it, it gives you some experience and you can go autition for some projects (doesn't mean you will shoot with DeNiro next summer...) And if you want to be better, watch movies an analyse the script and the shots; this way you will learn cinematographic language and it will help you for sure. For the rest, well you need people and money because nothing is free

  • Fascinating!

    Ade

  • Dude!

Find yourself a goood A.D. to WATCH YOUR BACK! and keep him from shoot to shoot... Some folks like their lighting gaffer others their DP (some folks think they should be the same guy...) But if you ask me it's that dog robbing son of a bi#$% that keeps it all going that's got my vote!

    Happy Trails... Hans...

  • INDEPENDENT HORRORS/THRILLERS DO NOT WORK THEY ARE SHIT!!

i mean actually independent not like sundance

also, this guy's films are the worst.

  • well they rarely work. blair witch worked imo.

  • Not in mine (:O)

  • Independent horros don't work? Of course they do if they are done right. Films like Halloween and Friday The 13th were pretty much indie films. They worked.

  • they're not proper Indie though - not as Indie as the guy in this film I'll bet.

  • I just made a horror/thriller completely independently.

  • says your movie is password protected.

  • password...

  • With my second film KILL22 I used my experience from my 1st film 2 work better with the actors ... its a learning experience

  • As an actor, I agree with all of what you have said. I have, as recent as last week on set, had suggestions to better my character. It was an independent film and the director was more than willing to go that direction. We ended up with a take that was somewhat of a mix between both ideas and it was incredible. Listen to the actors, if you can filter through those which are self promoting they usually have a unique perspective. Would also welcome comments on my YouTube reel.

    Thanks, Glenn Robin

  • Or maybe you could listen to the actors ideas because maybe they have studied the character and it ACTUALLY would make the scene better but you're too stubborn to get out of your own way.

  • @Smalltownherofilms you're a fucking idiot who probably has never made a movie, either that or u r a disgruntled actor

  • @jaredm222 Actually I own my own film company and we're starting pre-production on our second feature with two other screenplays in development. And yes I am an actor but I'm also a director and a writer. So next time find out these things before you try to trash talk.

  • @Smalltownherofilms

That's why I'm doing an improv horror film. I feel that the actors know how to portray the characters best!

  • Yeah, tell the actors that on screen it's all in the EYES. Their body relaxed and movements should smooth and natural.

  • Ha Ha great advice! :)

  • good

  • great advice guys, i needed some-
