Those of us who were actually there and have always been there know this secret... any time one person is credited for the invention of something, there were 50 people doing it before that never get credited. I only offer this fact because you seem very passionate about it. To know that will get you much respect from the true historians.
Keep your cool man... I've been dancing since the early seventies and am aware of how screwed up the terminology from all the misinformation over the years. Don't ever be to sure of yourself unless you were actually there dancing on Soul Train, or The Loft... or even as a stripper in The Philippines, (where many Vogue moves come from).
lol...ANA SANCHEZ IS NOT THE INVENTOR OF THAT STYLE...AND TYRONE IS NOT A POPPING DANCER...U OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!! ANA WILL NEVER CONQUER TO THAT STATEMENT OF YOURS...YOU HAVE NO IDEA OF THE DANCE HISTORY....
I'm sorry but that is not a fact, just a mere coincidence. The only thing they have in common is that there both from the West Coast and the little similarity of the risk movements.
Evolution of dances started with foundations. You can't simply say two genres coincidentally had the same foundations. I'm not saying the dancer here did great when he mixed waacking and locking.
Having two different forms doesn't mean they come from two different foundations. :)
I do believe that all of these styles are connected because they are social dances that have been past on, inspired by and recreated. Doing the styles (not just watching) will help you differentiate the two. And although it may look like there are similarities between Waackin and Locking; the complete attitude and expression of the styles are completely different. Lets not confuse things. Its more than a wrist movement. The movement tell its own story. Education & then hype!
Doesn't matter what I've done but just so u know I've toured the world w the 1st hip hop theatre musical. & so u also know, I learned how to wack from the best...u probably wasn't even born when I was doin it

Definately not waacking. Why try to mix styles when they have nothing to do with each other?....Who were you trained by?
kesmalle 4 years ago
hmm...
just so you know...
waacking originated from locking, that's the very reason why they start with the same foundation...
locking = wrist roll/wack
waacking = arm roll/wack

weird...
we're putting too much thought.
For me, though, the guy does waack really good, and the same goes with his locking. It just doesn't look so right when he combined the too.
Maybe making two different pieces for two genres would help show his skill. :)
xtahtick 2 years ago
Yea your right. No hard feelings :)
kesmalle 2 years ago
really i thought the both came from the east coast.

@xtahtick
i think it more resembles electric boogaloo-- different from locking per se...
