  • どんなにつらくても、この曲があるから、私は生きてゆける。

  • Astrud s father was german, her mother was brazilian. Astrud is the mother of two boys only.Today she lives in Philadelphia but comes to Brazil every once in a while to see her two sisters and friends. Bebel Gilberto ( daughter of Joao Gilberto and Miucha - Chico Buarque s sister) actually was raised in Chico Buarque s father s house with a zillion artists coming in and out and 24 hour music playing. it was a fantastic time! ...miss it. thanks for the upload.

    beautiful...

  • those 8 haters hate rain

  • this version really conveys that bittersweet emotion ... wonderful.

p.s. it's raining here. and i'm listening to this song.

  • i don't think i've heard this one by her.great song though.

  • yea!!

  • I have loved Astrud Gilberto longer than most of you reading this have been alive.

She began her career as a housewife and was accidentally overheard singing in the kitchen. The producer of "The Girl From Ipanema" heard her over the phone and immediately recorded her for the first time on my favorite Bossa Nova album

of all time, Getz and Gilberto. Do yourself a favor and buy it :)

  • P.S.--

Astrid Gilberto is the mother of Bebel Gilberto, following Mom's footsteps :)

  • @tiffsaver she is her step mom. singer miucha is her mom.

  • i love the way astrud sang this song. also the haunting melody and the very romantic lyrics.........simply beautiful. my friend dindo loves this song as well.

  • So many memories...

  • one can only stop...and think of what was...and if life will ever be the same...after the "Gentle Rain"...was shared by two lovers

  • I've Loved this song ( & THE GILBERTOS!) for years...remember standing on a balcony in the morning, playing this through my phone, in Paris, on my 18th bday (5yrs ago)

  • Did she write this song? Was she a singer songwriter or a singer only? I have never heard this before and love it. Nice poetry.

  • @goginetTV

go to Wikifonia... search the title... Louis Bonfa... Astrud Gilberto is on Wikipedia... associated with João Gilberto (married), Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Stan Getz (married?)... bossa nova in the sixties... she sang "The Girl from Ipanema"... a voice that one could truly called lovely... she is part Brazilian and part German... an animal activist... now retired... you have to search her stuff on YouTube and make a playlist...

  • LoVe ! ♥...beautiful voice !

  • Wonderful L.Bonfa.

  • Yeah, DangerousCharacter, I lied about my age, as one aspect of protecting my privacy. That doesn't discount the veracity of anything I said, and the beauty of it all, back in the Summer of Love in 1967. So there.

  • I first heard this recording in 1967 and have cherished it since. I can remember late summer nights of melting waxed light, soft and shimmery, sparkling drink and Astrud's rich cosmic alto coming out of pain and, the rain. You could hear the pitter patter past the soothing breeze. The world was still inviting then.

  • @uckbee yet according to your profile (age 41), you were born in 1970...

sorry to call you out, I've just seen a million comments like yours and I've been wondering how many are complete BS....

  • Anybody know the name of the person that sampled this? looking for the track - the vocals are so nice! (not the dubstep one)

  • Dont Hate me for this...A producer sampled this and made a beat from it....its beautiful either way...but it also lets me do y research to find this incredible music

  • Correction 1967é year of musical composition.

  • @fredjmp -Obrigado Fred! I had this on Astrud's playlist, but now you help me add it to the 1967 list as well!

My tribute to the world's great musicians is an ever-expanding music history channel with over 500 playlists so far. Featuring most genres, they span the globe. 300 artists, like Astrud Gilberto, each have a playlist & 111 lists let you hear any year's music since 1900 as if you've stepped back in time.

  • This beautiful music by Luis Bonfá and Maria Helena Toledo, 1968. Thank you for sharing this wonderful music. There is a beautiful Brazilian recording with the Quarteto 004 of 1968 too. The title in Portuguese is Song of the Meeting.

  • I used to listen to this a few years ago when I was about 14, all the time... it made me cry. It still does.

  • @MmeLEnfer try listening to Scott Walker's version...very moving.

  • @stillovescott Thanks for the tip.

  • my heart feels d pain...

  • Her voice can be haunting and playful at the same time... is there anyone else that has similar voice to her?

  • sooth's the soul

  • So beautiful & relaxing...

  • I have to learn this song for a gig

  • When a song can touch your heartstrings after 45(!) years, there must be something to it ;) Simply beautiful! I'd like to see Ms Gilberto these days...bet she's still an angel face!

  • Soooooooo beautiful!!!

  • Just can turn a bad day into bliss

  • where can i get a copy of the photo in the video.... who took it? i love it.

  • Keep tt coming!

  • Ah..this is the song from the 1966 movie of the same title filmed on location in Rio de Janeiro. The 60's culture even reached Latin America with its music. Love that decade.

  • Also on her 1965 album 'the Shadow of your Smile.' Added this to my series of music playlists for each of the last 100 years, an escape to any past year . . .

btw - it was actually Brazil that sent this music, bossa nova, out into the world. Brazil was integral in it's influence on pop music of the 60s & 70s - see my playlist called ' Bossa Nova - the Magic Beat' to see just HOW much, & be amazed ! ! !

  • Yes, I know all about the influence of Brazil's music in the 60's...and other cultures as well. My roots are from Latin America afterall!

  • you are getting high,,now,,on the honesty of the love ,,life offers,,as you`ve known before drugs,,

  • i used to get high on drugs and listen to this song. so when i listen to this song, i feel as if i am getting high.

  • I love Astrud & Getz's music...one of the best songs composed by Luiz Bonfa who composed Manha De Carnaval...Streisand love to warm up with it during her last concert tour; so glad that she did it on her new CD...both are very beautiful!

  • I love this. You should also check out a version by Karen Gallinger! Different from this, but both good. I have both and love both.

  • Scott Walker also has a version. Devastatingly sad.

  • This possibly the most beautiful song I know of...

  • The singer Miúcha is the Bebel´s mother! Astrud was the first wife of João Gilberto... Gentle Rain é encantadora!

  • New 2 me 2! But classic AG! Wistful, bittersweet...a 60s movie in minature..

  • What a feeling in this song... and I like her voice so much.Touching.

  • Wow. I've been an A.G. fan for almost 50 years and have never heard this until now. I'm in heaven!!!

    Thanks!

  • My oh my... the rain, the loneliness, the pain...

  • love it!!!

  • Rain

  • a glass of wine, a late night thunderstorm, solitude and some astrud gilberto to please the sense.

  • " i love this song...but i would love to here Franny McCartney sing it"

  • Update to tinbarth1, found Astrud bio on wikapedia with links to articles. great information. worth reading for serious AG fans. she was born on my birthday 11 years my senior, making her 69 or so now

  • to tinabarth1, thanks for sharing. i was just a little kid in the 60's but have always been deeply touched by beautiful music. Astrud Giberto represents all the dreams of my life still to be truly realized. would be facinated to find out anything about her life story. peace. jonhansen100

  • Is Astrid Gliberto among the living ,still ? if yes', where can i find her ? If no , god ,please send her replacement. Astrid Gilberto translated means , your dreams just came true.

  • Not sure will have to some research, however, as a huge fan when she first started would like to share that she doesn't speak English. It is all done phonetically.

  • She's based in the UK now.

  • なんて切なく悲しい曲・・

  • Asturd Gilberto was REALLY LUCKY to have been married to Joao Gilberto in the 60's.Tha makes her famous....but anyway,i love her songs, she's just a living legend of jazz and Brazzilian bossa nova

  • @TheMiguelzito yeah she had an affair with Stan Getz too .

  • why do people keep connecting beeble gilberto to astrid, she is the daughter of jaeo from a previous marriage.

  • いいね

  • @hiyou2468

    うん そうですね...

  • @hiyou2468 How can a voice reach such emotional perfection.

  • @hiyou2468 what does this mean in english?

  • she is a lady of bossa nova.

i always like to hear her.

    thank you to share,

    antonio

  • I will always remember that song as the one of my first encounter with the girl i Love.

  • This song was featured at the end of the movie, where Christopher George is all alone in his apartment after Lynda Day George (his real-life wife) walks out on him.

  • I have this movie on tape. The opening theme music makes me cry.

  • J'adore cette chanson. C'est superb, Astrud est très belle chanteuse...

  • probably the best spirit girl of ipanema to brazil spirit

  • What an amazing voice. There are certain versions like "the girl from ipenema" that i cant even listen to any other artist after listening to her. Am i the only one who thinks she sounds even hotter when accompanied by Stan Getz on the sax???

  • She sings very clearly and very deeply too but she's not singing on the version on the girl from ipanema, its her daughter Bebell Gilberto lead by her father Joâo Gilberto who plays the guitar and was the pioneer of the bossa nova as known today.

  • Please don't ever forget the composer!!! Luiz Bonfa one of the best Bossa Nova composers...

  • sunclov, you are obviously an idiot with an ear for crap. The music and the voice are just angelic.

  • you're an idiot if you think this is crap. she's awesome.

  • connard

  • Jobim and Astrud made me fall madly in love with Brazilian music and its people

  • parfait...merci pour ça!

  • Le genre de chanson à ne pas écouter quand on a un chagrin d'amour...

  • Je pense que c'est le meilleur moment pour écouter cette chanson parce que cela signifie plus que lorsque l'on est heureux.

  • C'est vrai tu as raison. D'ailleurs je me l'écoute en boucle et ce n'est pas un hasard...

En tout cas merci infiniment pour cette chanson et cette belle image.

  • Merci pour votre gentil commentaire.

  • Luiz Bonfá and Matt Dubey composed this beautiful song. The original-LP in which Astrud sings is "The Shadow of your Smile"-Verve. Thanks for post and greetings from Brasil!

Combined with that sublime orchestration who could ask for anything more?
