It was actually FDR's programmes that shortened the depression. Your characterisation of the miltant groups is not entirely incorrect, but it's not entirely correct either - different groups want different things - some just want to repress people in their region, while others wish to repress the world. If we can neutralise both w/o troops, we should.

I actually agree with you. Marijuana should be treated similar, or maybe a tad harsher than alcohol. Not allowed on base, not allowed in theater, and certainly not allowed on duty or watch. These methods were how the military used to operate prior to the complete enslavement of the enlisted, and federal declaration of a brutal drug war on tax paying citizens.
