Does anyone know how many years of service is required by navy doctors under HPSP ? I know its min. of 2 years of Active Duty, but on average, how many years do doctors serve after med. school ?
@myassin2009 Yep they pay for housing, tution, books, etc. Plus you get a generous stipend too. And you can join anytime but I thin you have to join by your 2nd or 3rd year of med school I'm not sure though. And you can serve at a military hospital for your residency yes. I don't think they train you in fighting.
You can't ask for a better deal. The military pays for your med school education including housing, books, as well as a stipend. And you'll be safe from any shooting since you'll most likely be working at a base. The only thing is that they can ship you anywhere they want you to during your duration.
@LordVader89 Is the tuition full ride? And when do you join? After you complete med school? And will working with them count as your residency? And do they train you in fighting?
j9901106: Not all liberals are anti-military. Actually, as a liberal, I don't know many that are. I'm a liberal atheist who firmly supports my country, has an Aunt who is Navy Chief and an Uncle (her hubby) who is a Navy SEAL. My uncle was even trained in the Navy not only as a SEAL, but also as a surgeon.
Liberals also have loved ones in the military, and openly serve in the military.
@BaskinLove Your uncle is probably a SEAL medic, not a surgeon. The SEAL Teams send some of their members to the Army 18 Delta SOCM course at Fort Bragg. It's a six month program that qualifies them in the highly specialized skills of combat medicine for special operations personnel. After the six month course, they are qualified as SEAL IDC (independent duty corpsman). They learn rudimentary surgery, but nothing compared to an M.D. surgeon. They're completely different skill sets.
People need to stop doing that. I was born and raised here - I don't want to be called Indian, just because my mom and dad speak with an accent. Hell, I've only been to India once in my life - my allegiance is with the U.S....
i checked on the website and before u get in, u hav to serve a minimum of three years of Active Duty, even tho i dont know what kind of active dudy, maybe bootcamp?
My god, I'm blown away by the stunning ignorance some people display. Anti-Navy? Do you just need to hate an organization that actually stands for something? Typical liberal. "He who controls the seas controls the earth." - Teddy Roosevelt. Read some history books before you go off making stupid comments. Eliminate the Navy altogether and then get attacked by a terrorist nation and see where we'd be. OR you could just opt out of the protection the Navy provides and do us all a favor.

Surprisingly, it is hard to determine which group is more detrimental to the general quality of life on earth, the US Navy or the American Medical Association. I'll have to the the US Navy, because they tend to cause problems wherever they go; whereas, the AMA is mostly troublesome in the US. But, if I consider all of the problems the AMA has caused in developing countries, I'd have to say it is a tie between these two most dangerous organizations. The Navy is a bigger waste of money.
Is Navy disease pathology, public health and trauma medicine any different from civilian stuff? It's a great way to learn. They should budget more money for Bethesda in every department.
An appendicitis is an appendicitis no matter how many sparkly things are on your uniform.
I'm not sure what experience you have in anything Zippyman818, but I have been a trauma surgeon for 18 years at two of the top trauma centers in the US. yes, there is a difference. Navy Physicians and Trauma Surgeons are spectacular. The trauma they see cannot, I repeat cannot be seen here in the US even in the gang infested urban centers. if you educated yourself, you would realize the trauma they see is secondary to high power weapon injuries. Unseen in the civilian world. I take my hat off..
I aspire to be an Navy physician just like he is :3

@LordVader89 I heard the scholarship was competitive and only a few applicants receive it. Is that true?

You must be mistaken. This video is about the U.S. Navy, not the I.R.I. Navy.

Yes, and the U.S. Navy along with every other Military branch is made up of all ethnicities.
My cousin is also in the US navy.
Nassiri is an Iranian last name, he also looks Iranian.
