Il più grande "BIDONE" della lirica!!! Quando venne in Italia fu presentato come un fenomeno vocale...poi lui stesso si lodava per la sua grande voce e per il suo stupendo fraseggio( non sono parole mie ma di José Cura in persona, su un'intervista rilasciata al mensile l' Opera)...per quanto mi riguarda il suo canto è solo un urlo continuo senza tecnica...peccato perché il temperamento e la voce sono di qualità...saluti

But what he does with his essentially lyric (big lyric) voice is unhealthy - he pushes chronically, underattacks practically every high note by a semi-tone. A question of too much too soon, we'll see if his voice lasts. I sincerely hope that it does, he could develop into a solid middleweight dramatic tenor
Ouvi Del Monaco e Vickers em Otello (ao vivo). Vi Cura em sua "prise de rôle", em Palermo, há 11 anos. São cantores muito diferentes. Cura tem uma eletricidade, uma intensidade carnal formidáveis.
High recording quality, mediocre interpretation. Cura rushes the difficult phrases because lacks the top notes and support to sustain the heroic emphasis. Sostenutos are neglected. He has high level as an actor and stage presence.
Question: Why Cura is the tenor that receives so many opposite reviews?
@gert0174 Cura is very famous and highly marketed.That opens his vocal faculties for serious scrutiny and criticism, within his generation and tenors from the past. The Exultate is not a canzonetta to be sung full voice and finito. Just listen carefully to Nunzio Todisco, Giacomini & Cecchele How their heroic voices sustains the squillo without forcing, emphatic pronunciation with true dramatic impact and impressive fiato. Give due respect to Maestro Verdi.
@Takken1256 After listening to Todisco, Cecchele, Giacomini, and how they attack the vocales with heroic slancio and the brutal fiato it is not realistic to put Cura on that level of quality. Cura may have a matinee idol personality, Del Monaco had it also , but with a fabulous voice.
L'Ho ascoltato alcuni anni fa a Torino, in quest'opera , mi creda, molti suoni ingolati, voce spinta, a volte stonato per la troppa forza che mette nell'emissione, è buona la recita ma il canto proprio no.
Se questo tenore è il miglior Otello, POVERI NOI. un saluto cordialmente

@WMP777 Sure, he sounds astmatic, doesn't he - but in a powerfull way? Lacks the top notes? Well, do you suggest his high c's are gone?
VIckers and del Monaco are great in this context, but Cura is not mediocre. His voice is "burning" and powerfull.
