  • I read a report of person who lived in a storage unit. Didn't sound especially enticing.

  • One tactic to beat the system is going to a warm climate and renting a storage unit. Not just to store stuff, but to live there too. It might take some sneaking around due to being illegal, but it can save lots of money right away.

  • blowjob?

  • hi helen!!!

i am a french student currently writing a these on unemployment aspects and effects could it be possible to arrange a kind of interview?

  • @930suzie Hey Suzie. Not sure what French has to do with unemployment but I'm willing to talk to you about my experience. Hope you still care about my reply after a week going by.

  • Thank You Elaine for your awsome video. Keep up the great work.

  • Thanks for the comments, lastprodigy. I'm not interested in web design, so I'm think I'm okay there.

  • again im not trying to be ciritcal, its just I feel too good designers might lose opportunities for such small things like the first impression of your website

  • For one thing, just some constructive criticism.

Update your website and resume. Style-wise. You havent event designed a template for your resume. Its just right off of Word. Not asking you to go all out on it. But a resume says a lot about a designer, and how far they push, even for the small little things.

Your design work is relatively fine, but some stuff feel dated. Even so, the doesnt do you justice, and sure doesnt make someone want to hire you for web work

  • Actually, it is not just right off Word. I put it together in InDesign. Professionals who put together resumes say that a resume should not be designed. Perhaps being a graphic designer makes for a special case, however, designing a resume makes it difficult for digital resume readers to convert it to text. Which is what most web sites do when I apply for a job. Or I have to copy and paste text into a box, so no point designing it, really.

  • There is a long debate about how much a resume should be designed. But even so. Event though you did it in InDesign, it looks like word. And that doesnt explain the poor typesetting. You chose to center your headers but they appear offcenter. Your margins are so small at the bottom and you have an "orphan" on the first papargaph and you have really bad "rags". It makes a bad first impression when a resume copy isnt properly set. And at least kern your name

  • I must sound like a complete jerk by now but I dont mean to. I just dont want to see designers who have so much experience go to waste over little things like bad 1st impressions.

A vblog is a fanastic idea to showcase yourself, but your script doesnt sell.I understand that it must be very hard right now but you still gotta push.I mean we're designers. This is all we can do.Might as well do a hell of a good job at what we do and try our best. And get all the jobs back from baddesigners out there.

  • Actually the idea behind the vblog is to talk about unemployment, not my career as a designer. Thanks for your concern.

In my experience, a resume is sort of an afterthought in the hiring process. Other issues are more important in the hiring process. I've never won a job on the strength of the resume alone. The resume has always been an addendum to my talents, skills and experience which I've presented either verbally or in an application.

  • A resume is a hook. Especially on the internet where all they have to base on you is your website and resume. You can talk in person

Im not going bother anymore. But all im saying. Your resume and Website design needs a lot of work. It doesnt compete out there, and it doesnt make anyone want to read or go through your portfolio. If you dont want to change then dont. Im just giving your advice because not adapting to change hasnt gotten you anywhere recently. Anyways I wish you luck.

  • Thanks! I suppose if all I had to show my work was my web portfolio and the resume, then your suggestions would be critical. Since it's possible that someone will see only those parts of my presentation, you're absolutely right. They should be the best I can produce.

  • Elaine, you got to just kick up your heels and do the Elaine dance (like in Seinfeld) - but I'm willing to bet you'll do a much better version'' the unemployment dance ! Elaine's 'unemployment dance' -- that just flies in the face of a crappy economy - dance for good times to come, for better work opportunites and dance to happier conditions !!!
