i'm so glad i recently discovered this incredible voice .. what a tone - i would have said contralto not mezzo, or at least a very rich dark mezzo. Not sure about the facial expressions, they seem to me a bit "singerish" and affected. But i could listen to this velvety full tone for hours and hours :)
@PrimaRagazza I take it back about her face actually. There is a lot more to performing than just standing there and singing after all .. just jealous cos i get self-conscious in my own living room, never mind in front of people! I think she captures the spirit of this piece absolutely beautifully & the recit. is particularly expressive.
Romina is equally delightful to look at as she is to hear to. What a beauty! And how noble a countenance - after all this time I still can't believe she's Italian: the noblesse of that face, those eyes would almost put Grace Kelly and Renate Thyssen-Henne - almost - to shame, equal at any rate! She must have been conceived through the tenderest union of two fine Goddesses, not a woman and a some walking phallus!
Beautiful voice, great expression, great coloratura. I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for posting it, also thanks to serenaluce for bringing my attention to this wonderful singer.
@lolita7961 I see that Russian people understand what is really beautiful!:-). Couldn't agree more with you that it's fantastic and perfect! I wonder why she is not promoted yet as she deserves it. In our time with overpromoted ugly low female voices like Bartoli, Prina, Kazarova and Genaux we need more singers like her not to forget that opera and any singing at all is first of all about BEAUTY! Bravissima Basso!
@serenaluce This Lady has absolutely magnificent voice with numerous brilliant noble baroque nuances which make everyone to listen to her endlessly...
@spqrmor Absolutely! Thank God that at our time of mass production and promoted empty ugly or sweet voices which have nothing to do with true baroque but only with the market, when people take art of singing superficially, there are still such singers who care about true art and true beauty! Basso is just brilliant!
OMG...Venice Baroque Orchestra, one of the best musical ensembles IN THE UNIVERSE, playing with a singer at their level (as to say fantastic). I can see the colours of Venetian Painters through sound here. More people like that today in music world, and less words and parades.
@ad80ad Indeed. Romina is one of the best (and fastest) mezzo's nowadays. I love her! This cast would be awesome if it wasn't for Manuela Custer ruining the all thing...
@peres010492 Agreed. I've just listened to Custer's Agitata infidu flato. It's a nightmare! Such an ugly rendition! Another horror after Sonia Prina's interpretation. It's such a beautiful aria, and these 2 women just ruined it. Besides Custer has visible technical problems and can't breathe properly. Her coloratura is just all wrong, in the cheap pop style. After such ugly voices Basso sounds even more beautiful as a striking contrast! Thank God that nowadays such singers still exist!!!...
@serenaluce There's no better Juditha than Mingardo or Kozena. And Custer ruins pretty much everything she sings :P Have you ever heard her Alza in quegli'ochi from Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso? If you didn't...... then don't xD
@peres010492 Well, I haven't heard Mingardo as Juditha yet. If it's on YT I'll do it. I can imagine that she is suitable for it as in general she is very good. But Kozena's version is just wonderful! Very beautiful voice, sense of style, wonderful coloratura! It's in my favourites:-) But you know, I have Agitata on my CD sung by our wonderful Canadian CT Matthew White. It's the best version I've heard so far. It's usually sung by a woman, but Judhita is used allegorically here, so it's OK too...
@peres010492 I should have followed your kind advice and not listen to Custer's Alza in quegli'occhi! LOL I agree that's horrible! I thought that Prina was bad enough, but perhaps she is not that bad after all?! LOL But actually I would prefer to comment who is better and not who is worse:-)
@serenaluce Mingardo is the best at everything she does. I just heard her Polinesso... GOD! What a voice. About Matthew White: I'm not a big fan of countertenors, or most of them. I like some, the ones with powerful low register. And yes, you shouldn't have heard it :P
@peres010492 I think that I should learn how to upload audio from my CDs. Otherwise I have such treasures , and only lucky few know true artists while such trash like PJ's parodies is uploaded by many on YT.There's only one piece on YT with White. Perhaps if you heard him singing Italian oratorios you would change your opinion about countertenors. He has a wonderful clear voice with an ethereal timber, great sense of style and very intelligent coloratura! One of my favourites but after Spanos:)
@peres010492 I've listened to Mingardo's version of Agitata infido flato. She is really wonderful! Thanks for your advice. And I have to agree with you that Custer ruins everything she sings... Sad...
@arpeggio1358 Fully agree with you here. I discovered her by chance. After that awful Sonia Prina's singing in another aria from Juditha Triumphant such a pleasant surprise! Wonderful voice, nice feminine manners, beautiful technique, no agression and intelligent coloratura! It's what female singing should be!

Would love to see her try Ave Maria (Bach/Gounod). She has a precision that seems perfect for that piece.

I do not find her technique to be particularly beautiful, as it is much like Bartoli's has been for the past frw years.

C'est magnifique. Cette voix superbe fait penser à Kasarova, en plus méridional et chaleureux. Bravo et merci pour ce téléchargement.
