the first thing i said after i beat this game was WOW i couldn't believe that a game that was 20 or something years old felt so fresh and new the music was absolutely
incredable the controls where perfect and the level design is Masterful it just goes to show that fancy graphics don't make a good game which something that most developers nowadays think
you missed one thing. the boss at the end of the 4th wily level. i would have liked you to explain how it is the worst part of the game. you pretty have to die at least once unless you get the pattern down perfectly and dont waste item 1 or the crash bombs. i would say 9.6/10
I never had to deal with that part in Heatman's level. I just used Item 2, and I used Flashman for Quickman's level. I loved the gameplay and the music was also my favorite part of the game. I remember buying it with my report money and never regretted it. 10/10
0_o WMG removed your Mega Man 1 review... They can burn in a hot place, and I don't mean one controlled by Fire Man, Heat Man, Flame Man, or any other fire-themed boss.
Played through this game today... which I hadn't played since I was a kid. It is AWESOME. Must have used about 20 continues but I made it to the end... man was it fun. By the way, just use the time stopper on quick man's level if youre having trouble with the laser bar things...
The difficulty settings in this game were inaccurate. "Normal" should have been "Easy" and "Difficult" should have been "Normal". Afterall, they take away the difficulty system on the 10th anniversary collection and you play it on "Difficult".
And use Flash Man's power to get past the lasers in Quick Man's stage.
U know what's weird? If IRATE gamer said, "In the midst of all his bullshit" I would have said that he ripped off the AVGN. But, these guys...... I don't really see a problem. :)
this game is anything but easy on the difficult setting. bosses take twice as long to die, and you take twice the damage from everything. Wily's final form is a pain, because if you mess up more than a few shots, you dont have enough weapon energy to kill him with cause he takes so damn long to die.
A lot of US gamers think MM2 is too easy, but do you know the original japanese version didn't have 2 difficult modes? Capcom decided the game was too hard for american gamers so they created an easier version for the US release. They still included the original jap version, that is what the difficult mode is.
So the normal mode should really be called the easy mode, that's why most of the bosses are defeated after only a few hits, and the metal blade is so overpowering.
Every song in this game was catchy and memorable. I wouldn't really like a Mega Man soundtrack again till part 7. Although I did like Snake Man's song in MM3.
I have the original game for the NES, it was 1 of my favourite games when i was a kid and it still is. I even bought it recently for the virtual console
watching this was the best 10 minute nap i ever had. maybe you could actually practice your script in advance so it doesn't sound like you're reading from cue-cards? it also helps to have a GOOD script. yawn...
Has not been said enough. MAS AND VIC.....kick ass. Yeah their own names are enough to carry this ass kicking game on its own. Though MM1 and 3 are my favs.
Really I dont see whats so hard about Heatman's stage. By my 5th try I relize all you had to do is keep jumping right as soon as you land. Whats so hard about that?
And also, I would like to maintain the view that Rockman and Breakman that are thought up by the Japanese are FAR COOLER AND FUNKIER than the respective American names Megaman and Protoman that just sounds so SCIENTIFIC AND UTILITARIAN.
I can't agree with that, Megaman and Protoman are WAY cooler names than the JP ones. Breakman doesn't sound right at all. No Robotmaster can be named Breakman. I'm dead serious. If a Robotmaster named Breakman existed, though, I guess it's ability would be napping. And we want scientific, that's what Megaman is!
Coming across stupid people like you really makes my day. *clap clap clap*
Maybe Rockman should have remained in Japan and Asia instead.
You can play your dumb Western games made for the same NES system by stupid and hopeless American and European companies and call the characters 'Megaman' and 'Protoman' or 'Velocity Warrior' or 'Hydroxide Blaster' or any other damn and retarded scientific name you people want.
Those who disagree are just STUPID, plain and simple.
We Asians and Japanese know Rockman and Rockman music FAR BETTER than you stupid and ignorant outsiders, DanielGittings being a prime example of your failed and retarded species.
And Megaman 2's ending music (where the color of his weapons change with the seasons) beats Megaman 3's. It is the most touching and emotional musical piece ever created for a Megaman game as well as a Megaman ending!
Gotta be kidding who? I am talking in terms of the ending music, not all music in general. You mean to say Protoman's whistle alone beats even Megaman 2's ending mucic? That's ridiculous!
And I am saying that 2's ending music is better than 3's and it is THE BEST.
Megaman 3 is the BEST game in the original series AND it is way better than Megaman 2. The music is mostly more catchy and funky and you also get to fight alien reincarnations of Megaman 2 robots (that lengthen the game) other than the new regular 8 robots for 3.
But the bad thing is, where Megaman 2 is a bit too hard (but still attainable), Megaman 3 is a bit too easy.
Mega Man 3 was harder... it was longer... it's music was NOT better than 2's. Mega Man 2 is the best in the main series. 3 is my 2nd favorite (but have you even beaten it?? You say 2 is harder, when 3 is. You've never been to the Wily area before, have you...). Sure MM2 has those orbs that you need to blast with Crash Bomber, but 3 has a Yellow Devil!
NO Megaman 3's music IS MUCH BETTER than Megaman 2's. You obviously don't understand what good music is.
And what, Megaman 3 is harder?! Good one, this is the first time I heard of such rubbish.
Also Megaman 3 is MY FAVORITE GAME, so how could I not have beaten it?! What a stupid question! The Wily area in 3 is also much EASIER, and Yellow Devil is a piece of cake!
To find these two tough means you are a failure and you should quit playing Megaman right away.
And also, I have beaten Megaman 2 on Difficult many times (I ALSO play the Japanese Rockman 2 that is Difficult by default), but Megaman 3 I have beaten EVEN MORE TIMES.
At last somebody else that shares my opinion MM3 way above MM2! I found MM2 too hard, perhaps because I played the genesis version within Wily Wars. And then I gone back and got a nes version. I started playing on normal and I found it pitifully easy. So much easy that now I only play on difficult >_>
IMO, many favorited MM2 because of that and the awesome music. what could have it been otherwise?
Megaman 2's music is pretty nice, but generally the beat is pretty dull and I like Megaman 3's music even more because it is catchy and funky.
Oh the Genesis version? Or it should be the Japanese/European Mega Drive version. It is a crappy remake in my opinion and it is a slow-moving game. The remix music is good for some stages and bad for others. Megaman does also move weird in that one. I don't feel like Megaman when I play that.
And yeah, good reasoning. I guess that is why they like Megaman 2 more.
I sometimes kinda wish they make Megaman 3 even harder, especially when he has a slide that makes me feel he moves much faster. I find it a bit too easy though the game seems longer.
*On a side note, Megaman 2 has a HORRIBLE box art and manual whereas Megaman 3 is much better in both aspects.
And anyway, Capcom Japan re-released ALL 6 Famicom Rockman titles in their former 8-bit glory (meaning nothing in the game was changed) on the PSX in 1999 and I am proud to say I got ALL of them XD
My only regret is that they didn't release 7 that was a Super Famicom title. Very retarded of them not to, because with 8 also released that means even if you got everything your Megaman collection on PSX will NEVER be a complete one.
Good review there. Definetly loved the game, especially since I own the Anniversary Collection for GCN.
I did use to have trouble with those disappearing platforms in Heat Man's stage a long time ago, but fortunately, I was able to get past them when I played this game on the AC Edition. Basically, it takes a lot of memorization.
Of course, Quick Man's stage is still a bitch. Never go there without the Time Stopper.
MM 2 is a pillar of gaming, ever. However, to me it's NOT the best NES title (don't hate me) but for music. If it's music stood alone as music album, it could be one of the best in whole history!
Pretty review, but with fast fingers, not QuickMan's, nor HeatMan's stages are hard at all. and I HATE the orb room boss. 9,5 for me. And 5 for you :D
You guys should of showed the boss in Dr. Wily stage 4. Now THAT is an annoying challenge. But none the less, I agree with you guys. Mega Man gets a 9.8 in my book.
If you guys are trying to sound like the Angry Nintendo Nerd, or the Irate Gamer, stop now!!! But... Mases, keep up the good work on the Zelda Walkthrough Videos, I's really like to see the video walkthrough to wind waker and all the others.
Always before you go to heat mans stage make sure you have item 2 to go over the long platform parts if you have full energy in it you can get past that part easy :D
This game is my favorite video game of all time. Yes the music is freakin awesome, and YES this is the best Mega Man game in the original series. Great review guys.
nice but you guys need to bring The Legend of Zelda because thats a freaking awesome classic too so I hope you guys post a video review about the Zelda games from NES cause you always do a GREAT job with the videogames reviews
I personally thought this game was a bit overrated and that Megaman 3 was more creative. Plus the quickman level is just cruel. Being "perfect" is an exaggeration.
Still the game's good as is this review.
And those reaction shots around 4:30 were so token they were funny. Was the game even on?
I personally think Quick Man's weapon is better against boss battles than Metal Man's weapon because it actually works against all bosses except Metal Man(Metal Man's weapon only works againsts a few bosses.)
Also. The game was easy because you guys played it on normal instead of difficult.
Also. Heat Man and Quick Man having hard stages must have been a joke. Regardless of whether you used an item or Flash Man's weapon.
As this is a very old game, several of the people watching this review are old gamers who have played Mega Man for hundreds of hours in their lifetime. That's my case. Of course this is easy... when you have played for a long time.
Quick Man's and Heat Man's stages are not particularly difficut compared to other games (Ninja Gaiden comes to mind), but for a new player who plays Mega Man 2 for the first time, they are the places they will have the most trouble with (along with Dr.Wily stage 4, imo).
Of course, there's the time stopper and item 2 to go through these parts, and of course, Mas and Vic know it very well. They gave a hint for Heat Man's level, but didn't for Quick Man's. That's all.
I can one life it on difficult. Watching the video and seeing them take double damage off the bosses, it's obvious they're playing the game on normal(the easy mode.) I was only mentioning the difficulty being hard to someone who wasn't a fan of the series.
That's like me saying Devil May Cry 3 is easy on Hard mode. It's easy to me as I've played it so long, but in all actuality it's a very hard game even on Normal mode.
oh and heat man's I'd use the jet. Wow you guys like to play the hard way. I guess I did fight bosses the tough way; did not know metal man's weapon was so powerful. lol at that 1 up that's like the nerd's review of tmnt where they put the pizza right by the walls that close in on you. Excellent review. Metal Man dies to his own weapon in 1 shot? Damn, did not know that
actually, if you use the rush jet thingy in heatman's level, you can jump off and get the 1 up and then use the rush jet item again to get out, that's how i use to get it back in the day
This is why I always beat Air Man before Heat Man; getting across the lava lake AND Getting the 1-up is a piece of cake with Item-2. My personal robot master order: Metal, Flash, Wood, Bubble, Air, Heat, Crash, and then Quick... Man.
And, yeah, the music is... perfect. I still listen to it to this day. My favorites are Flash Man's, and like almost everyone else, the first two stages of Wily's castle!
Actually, the "Difficult" difficulty setting is the default difficulty of the Japanese version. The Japanese version doesn't have any settings, but the American version enabled an easier difficulty setting (Normal) while keeping the option for the default difficult setting from the Japanese version (Difficult).
Another great review, as always. Fantastic! Your reviews are getting longer too - love it.
There's definitely *that* thing about Mega Man 2 : it's either too easy or annoyingly hard. I mean, who designed Flash Man's level? It's plain too easy compared to Quick Man's or Heat Man's level. Well, given enough experience, it's all easy anyway, but there's just that difference in difficulty level between a stage and another. Anyway, great review, keep it up!
im seeing this on 2012!!!????

PS. oh and you shouldn't use the Metal Man gun the whole time.
thegaminggoose 4 years ago
Always before you go to heat mans stage make sure you have item 2 to go over the long platform parts if you have full energy in it you can get past that part easy :D

LOL I love what happened to Bubble Man! That was great! I think I like Mega Man 3 better, but Mega Man 2 is excellent. I love the first one as well.

megaman 2 is the friikin best in the series

I personally thought this game was a bit overrated and that Megaman 3 was more creative. Plus the quickman level is just cruel. Being "perfect" is an exaggeration.
Still the game's good as is this review.
And those reaction shots around 4:30 were so token they were funny. Was the game even on?

I mean "underestimation". sorry.

I gotta ask... where on earth do you guys get all your games in original (and apparently still in good condition) boxes?
bsdaemon666 4 years ago 2

SeijinMahoutsukai 4 years ago
(continuing)
Quick Man's and Heat Man's stages are not particularly difficut compared to other games (Ninja Gaiden comes to mind), but for a new player who plays Mega Man 2 for the first time, they are the places they will have the most trouble with (along with Dr.Wily stage 4, imo).
Of course, there's the time stopper and item 2 to go through these parts, and of course, Mas and Vic know it very well. They gave a hint for Heat Man's level, but didn't for Quick Man's. That's all.
SeijinMahoutsukai 4 years ago
I can one life it on difficult. Watching the video and seeing them take double damage off the bosses, it's obvious they're playing the game on normal(the easy mode.) I was only mentioning the difficulty being hard to someone who wasn't a fan of the series.
That's like me saying Devil May Cry 3 is easy on Hard mode. It's easy to me as I've played it so long, but in all actuality it's a very hard game even on Normal mode.

Sorry to answer to such an old comment, but EXACTLY, QuickMan's weapon is MetalMan's weakness, setting aside his self-destructing weapon.
The real pattern that none seem to have found out would be:
Flash > Quick > Metal > Bubble > Heat > Wood > Air > Crash
And sorry to Mas & Vic, this is the third comment I'm answering on a row.
AngelStarMan 4 years ago
oh and heat man's I'd use the jet. Damn, did not know that
Kinison 4 years ago
Omg, im the same like you i also didint know about metal mans weopen.
Well thats pretty cool, thx for the review it was great :D
jebotimater 4 years ago
For quickman's level I would always use flash man's time stopper ability to avoid those damn lasers.
Kinison 4 years ago
actually, if you use the rush jet thingy in heatman's level, you can jump off and get the 1 up and then use the rush jet item again to get out, that's how i use to get it back in the day
anyways, great review!
Moonflow4343 4 years ago
you guys rule! I hope you do review for mega man 3!
akujoojoopum 4 years ago
This is why I always beat Air Man before Heat Man; getting across the lava lake AND Getting the 1-up is a piece of cake with Item-2. My personal robot master order: Metal, Flash, Wood, Bubble, Air, Heat, Crash, and then Quick... Man.

they are so damn right... Thanks, CAPCOM, for this hilarious game!

best line ever!
AlbanianMan 5 years ago
And, yeah, the music is... perfect. I still listen to it to this day. My favorites are Flash Man's, and like almost everyone else, the first two stages of Wily's castle!
Actually, the "Difficult" difficulty setting is the default difficulty of the Japanese version. The Japanese version doesn't have any settings, but the American version enabled an easier difficulty setting (Normal) while keeping the option for the default difficult setting from the Japanese version (Difficult).
SeijinMahoutsukai 5 years ago
Another great review, as always. Fantastic! Your reviews are getting longer too - love it.
There's definitely *that* thing about Mega Man 2 : it's either too easy or annoyingly hard. I mean, who designed Flash Man's level? It's plain too easy compared to Quick Man's or Heat Man's level. Well, given enough experience, it's all easy anyway, but there's just that difference in difficulty level between a stage and another. Anyway, great review, keep it up!
