  • @dalotel Well, hmph. You're making your own sandwich, then, mister. It's OVER with us!

  • Try Marc Salvisburg at Factory Pro They regrind shifting components for smoother action, and make custom upgraded components also.... They have been great with my bikes...

  • Sounds like the shifters are warn or bent. Either way your going to have to go into the gear box and look and most likely replace a part or two.

  • Oops, accidently deleted my commend. So here goes again....

Lighting Laurie, Lighting. Anyways, nothing constructive to say aside from that... Good Luck, can't wait to see your next vid.

  • is my vision that bad being a old fart or did your bike get smaller?

  • Wow that is a bs shift set. As to the play sorry I can't help.

  • @azwakko LOL! This convoluted heel/toe BS is apparently common on these little pit/monkey bikes. I saw an old Snap-On trail bike in our back warehouse at work and went over to glance at (an engine very much a clone to this one). Sure enough-- footpeg/shifter was the same! Crappy design, IMO.

Yes, bs... As one guy on 49ccscoot forum said: "bull shift." LOL

  • Can't really say anything that makes sense about it but i wish you good luck on the issue :-)

  • @bakker46 Thanks! Considering this is the first real "issue" I've had with this *very* neglected scooter, I'm quite happy so far.

  • hey laurie did u get the super moto fixed yet

  • @kd4ysi Not 100%. Dialing in the carb this next week. As for the erratic/sometimes not erratic idle? For one, the pilot is too lean. For another, the choke likes to slowly vibrate out sometimes so that it's partially choked. Then, of course, it idles like crap once warm. Now that I know this, I reach down and check the choke lever and give it a gentle push. Problem solved! lol

  • Can you see the axel coming out of the gearbox, start moving as soon as you touch the gear lever, or do you have to push the gear lever down, a cm or more before the aksle start to move,if it's started to move as soon as you touch the lever, then its internal, if there is play up or down before movement of the axel, then it's outside, the problem is located.

  • @bobbleboydk You know, I didn't think to even check, but that is perfectly brilliant. It's in dodgerider26's garage at the moment, so that test will have to wait a few days.

  • Most likely its the mechanism that holds the shifter. Rather unusual to have it torn the inside of the box. Maybe the shaft end is worn but usually not the inside of the box. For this "bike" I doubt it is very expensive. Just take it apart and check it out!

Ohh, and please Use more light for the vids - the "blairwichproject" vision is nooooot helping :)

    Cheers!

  • @Snowhite808 Well, it *has* been wrecked... more than once. My lowside in the snow that bent my shift lever managed to break the shift star. I am doubtful any internal forks are bent, though, because of how well and consistently is *does* shift... there is just sooo much play in the lever.

This was a hastily done video for advice at the end of the day. I wouldn't have normally posted something of such suck-tacular quality. Thanks for your patience anyway. lol

  • Yea.

  • Reminds me of my old Honda Trail 90. Trick for me was to let it roll to shift. It also had two sets of gears (close range and long range) that made it more difficult to shift. The bike always had to be moving in order to shift at all.

  • @starhobo14 Oh, I'm not talking about shifting itself. It shifts awesome. Great bite, smooth, doesn't slip, etc. What is bothering me is how stinking much play there is in the shift lever/shift shaft before engaging. You have to move the lever a long ways before reaching the point where it will begin to engage. It's barely rideable as it stands right now. This is the 4-speed semi auto. It wheelies when you shift up, too! *grin*

  • Is the shifter aftermarket? I dont think ive ever seen a heel/toe shifter on a bike that isnt a cruiser. Check for adjustment nuts in the mechanism, if you cant find any replace the entire assembly with a factory one, if that doesnt fix it you have bent bits inside the transmission.

  • @metalclawwolf No, it's stock as far as I can tell. The trouble is, there are sooo many versions of this same bike (Keen BadBoy). There are fully manual transmissions with clutches, semi-auto (like mine), and fully automatic (CVT tranny). Some have standard shift levers, and some have these "motoGP style" shifters with the heel shifter. So, they're "stock," but they're not. You follow? LOLI am hoping it is not bent bits inside. *fingers crossed*

  • Some people said spoke about the lever. Peace.

  • Bobbleboy said something about that.

  • @wheels1motors1 Wait, I see what you're saying. On shorter levers, the leverage needed to move the shift shaft the same amount will be a shorter distance. Right?

  • Shorten the lever (?).

  • @wheels1motors1 Not the lever itself, but we are going to try shortening the shift shaft (swapping it out for a shorter one off a different model). I am just hoping there is nothing bent internally.

  • Nice title ^^ :) took some time for my brain to see that f in shift.

  • @thelbp Hehe. That was the idea. :)

  • it must feel so good to be able to flat foot on something.

  • @zquaitte Actually, it feels weird and a bit cramped. But, this scoot is just for short distances.

  • @lauriejennifer Makes sense. That's sort of how I felt transitioning from a klx to a manual bicycle. The thing felt so tiny and cramped at first; it felt like a silly little toything that I could throw across my yard. Hope you can find a way to improve that shifter.

  • Is the shifter worked by cables? if so that's where I'd start first.

  • @leapoffaith20 No, just the shift shaft. :-/ Going to try installing a shorter shift shaft and see if that helps.

  • First of all, go to the forum for the bike, and find out if that is normal. If not, search that forum for the fix, as problems usually are common to various bikes. Forums are great like that.

  • @cashstore1 This is posted on a scoot forum. Already beat ya to it. ;-) Can't find a forum specific to this bike, but there are lots of 49cc fans out there and many troubles cross over.

  • @lauriejennifer Well I gave you my 2 cents. I hope you find something. The problem may be internal, if it's a problem at all. Good luck.

  • @cashstore1 Thanks, mate! Great minds certainly think alike. Forums are always a great resource. Gosh, I hope it isn't internal. What a PITA that would be... The luck is certainly appreciated! :)

  • LJ your awesome. Yeah sorry I am no help.! lol

  • @Killamuf It's fixable at least!

  • @lauriejennifer Yeah for sure..!

  • Cut the shift lever and re-weld the lever back on increasing the angles so you have to press down less? For example... if it was parallel to the ground cut it and raise it from parallel to to say 30 degrees.

  • @TheTacticalBarrage That would help for upshifts, but then I would be SOL for downshifting. We're going to try bending the shift lever and installing a shorter shift shaft and hoping that helps.

  • made in china

  • @mister0ldschool Taiwan, actually. And, yes, there is a world of difference.

  • @lauriejennifer the shift forks might be off?

  • Maybe some sort of bushing i worn or missing either end of the shift shaft, there must be no play, adjusting the shift shaft length, only adjust the angel of the shifter arm

  • @bobbleboydk We tried adjusting the shift shaft and the lever and even the position of the shift shaft holder on its spline. All were to no avail. We could reposition the shift lever by doing these things, but we could not remove the excessive play in the shift lever before engagement. I am praying it's not bent parts internal. The shift lever and shaft themselves are still slightly bent from previous wreck(s). Hoping that sorting that sorts the problem. *fingers crossed*

  • only time i've had trouble shifting is because the idle was set high

  • @EDGEmoon123 Oh, it shifts great. I'm not talking about the actual shifting itself. I'm just concerned with how much play there is in the shift mechanism. The clutch/gears are otherwise mint. No complaints there.

  • I suppose you'll just have to get used to it :)

  • @dprider02 Well, it isn't rideable as it is now. As least, it would be very unsafe and awkward. I'm sure it's fixable. This bike *has* been wrecked multiple times by the previous owner.

  • put a jockey shifter on it! Then do a WHEELIE!

  • @TheGardenSnake LOL! I've looked into shift mods for it, including converting to a fully manual. However, after our little cleanup work, it was already popping little wheelies and chirping the back tire when shifting to second, and even 3rd. I was honestly amazed at the little pep this 50 has. Much different from my old scooter.
