  • @gaff2006

that would have made the movie even better xDDD

  • Hava Nagila -

    hmmm Hebrew...

    הבה נגילה

    english- "let's celebrate" maybe?

    im not sure...

  • @shakel32 It translates directly to "let us rejoice". Internet Hi-Five for being jewish!

  • Hmm... My translator says it means "Have a Tequila!" Must be a virus or something...

    jk ;o)

  • @dcs002. Love your comment! 5 points!

    Hahaha.......!

  • @dcs002 lmmfao

  • @dcs002: Sorry, no tequila, but how about a nice glass of Manishevitz?

  • @aarfeld lol!!! Aren't "nice" and "Manishevitz" mutually exclusive??? But then again, even the smell of tequila makes my stomach go woozy... I'd rather have Manishevitz any day! (By the spoonful, like any other cough syrup...)

    .

I'm not Jewish, but you can't beat Jewish music! (The wine's a different story...) My grad school advisor was in a klesmer band, and that was AWESOME music! You can't just sit there and not smile when you hear that stuff! (BTW, he was my "have a tequila" source.)

  • @dcs002: Manishevitz is a dessert wine so it's sweet and tasty. Not a fine wine but tasty in the way of other such wines.

  • @aarfeld Oh, I know. I was mostly just having fun. It's not to my taste, but if ya love it, l'chaim!

  • I am jewish and Manishevitz wine is disgusting. lol

  • @dcs002 this was on his album king of the surf guitar darlene love sings on the title number as she did on duanne eddy records

  • this song makes me wanna rejoice and i'm not even jewish!

  • @shakel32 its "let us rejoice"

  • @shakel32 in the description it sais let us rejoice? could that be it?

  • that's great

  • Thanks

  • Dick Dale=one disgustingly bad-ass dude! love this version.

  • he just made the dradle that more epic...

  • la kaem!

  • Outstanding!!! This song brings back great memories of when my dad and I used to listen to this tune over and over and over and over again... and I still LOVE it!! Awesome posting, thanks! -Matt

    5 STARS

    A+A+A+A+A+A+

  • oh my god.

    this is awesome

  • Well, to be honest, the tricky part is just playing it fast - the actual notes aren't tremendously difficult.

I mean, you can learn Misirlou in about 30 seconds even if you can't play guitar. Playing it as fast that, though, is tricky...

  • yes but what people don't realize is that playing these songs on a typical guitar with typical strings is also a lot easier then playing dicks guitar with his strings which range from 16p to 60w and are wound very tightly. people refer to them as things like bridge cables I saw one surf guitar player say man that's like playing barbed wire. I have seen other guitar players try dicks guitar and shake their wrist and say man that hurts and dick makes the strings look like spaghetti

  • if you want that strong attacking sound you need at least a 56w for the low e. 58 or 60 is even better. also a 1.5mm or 2mm pick is really good. i posted a vid of me doing this on acoustic bass. wicked thick strings

  • exactly, Tarantino...TAXI...lol

  • Reminds me of Tarantino.

  • There's a reason for that. The opening credits to Pulp Fiction were set to the song "Miserlou" by (guess who) Dick Dale and the Deltones.

  • Oohh man he should be carefull of that guitar lol

  • When I heard DD I never heard of Hava Nagila before. I played it to a neighbor like as if it was never heard of but she knew of the original gansters way before I did

  • I love this song to start with, and hearing it performed in this style is a real kick!

  • i love dick dales music and i love dick dale for playing this melody, which is simply great

  • Mozel Tov!!!!!

  • Still the Tielman Brothers are better then Dick Dale, althought I love the Dick Dale sound :)

  • Hard to beet the Tielman Brothers for pure showmanship. I love Dick Dale too though. No reason to pick just one!

  • Bad ass song right here =D!!!!!!

  • wow strings upside down, thats an art.

  • *****

  • hava nagila hava!!

  • Dick Dale played his guitar like an oud, using a turkey quill as his pick, and he played it upside down. Very unique sound and overloaded with reverb, just like any surf should be.

  • Dale was born to a Lebanese father and Among his early musical influences was his uncle, an oud player performing belly dance music. Much of his early music shows a Middle Eastern influence

  • this one and Misirlou sound very similar. both are very cool songs! 5*

  • too awesome!! Have this album on vinyl, baby! True King of the surf guitar and so rightly named!

  • Excellent performance

  • Killer pick burner!

  • Mazel tov!

  • There are a ton guitar players out there, some famous and a whole lot more totally unknown. But everyone has something to contribute.

  • Only one inventor of Surf though...

  • true enough

  • dude for the record Dick used to pay the Beach Boys 5 dollars a show to open up for him and the members of that band watched his live shows before they ever started performing themselves

  • Yeah! Surf music Hebrew-style! Let us rejoice indeed!

  • From where I sit, as a player, his technique isn't exactly textbook perfect. Then again, Hendrix was far from perfect technically too. Same with BB King.

His tremolo picking is as good as it gets though.

There are plenty of better technicians out there, but very few better musicians. Everybody who plays seriously should listen to Dick Dale and how he puts it all together. There are few better.

  • Shut up dutch

  • your amateur ears are right ;)

  • He is god among guitar players by far. He technically knows the guitar so well that it's like the back of his hand.

  • fucking flawless!!

  • This song and this one:

    xymVxcLQVT8

They both are my favorite Dick Dale songs!

  • Cool, Hava Nagila goes Heavy Metal!

  • Yes, Dick Dale is called the "Father of Heavy Metal" as he was the first one to play the guitar that way.

  • I heard a recording of this one rabbi guy singing misirlou

  • Of course it's a Jewish song. That's what makes it so incredibly weirdly perfect. Surf guitar with a twist.

  • But Dick Dale is from Arab descent and he is the one who brings this song to live.

  • This song is Actually A customary Jewish song sung at religous events. No joke!!

  • A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!

  • The "theme" is also played by Dick Dale

  • you could discover the cure for cancer, you can end with all the wars in the world, but accept it, you can do many things but you will never be as cool as that first picture.

  • that picture is badass
