  • it was the portal 2 secret made by valve for testing properties and made for modding custom maps, as you can see its usefull....

  • SCIENCE! :D

  • I think maybe Megaupload's not working... lol

  • @BitMage Yes, Megaupload was recently taken down by US law enforcement. Eventually I will upload the VMF of the map to some other file sharing site, assuming I still have said VMF on my computer.

  • @BitMage If you still want to try out the map, I finally got around to uploading the map to Mediafire. The download link is in the description.

  • It wasn't added because there is already a white gel in which can be used to place portals on anti-portal surfaces.

  • @Charged011 Colors wouldn't hold Valve back from implementing new gameplay elements. Rather than including a texture with the incomplete gel, conversion gel's white texture was used as a placeholder. Had it actually been implemented, the gel probably would have been green or red.

  • I had an idea for this gel a while ago so I'm really happy that Valve might use it. It could be really cool for some puzzles. Someone check to see if lasers reflect off cubes coated in the gel. And it might be cool if the new reflection property made it reflect emancipation grills, so you could bring it through those... I hope this is in the next DLC :O

  • they should include this and the adhesion gel in the next DLC

  • wow this stuff makes me feel like we got cheated out of an even better game than we got.

  • Cool finds. ^_^

Keep up The good work. :D

  • Make a video in a square room with reflection gell on all the walls. Then place a lazer on one wall, and a lazer redirector cube in the room. I want to see what happens.

  • So you can still, ya know, walk on walls? That'd be awesome.

Still, I like having the actual gel myself. Guess it's time to grovel at Omnicoder's feet...

    Night.

  • Thank you so very much! I am trying to play my map on Portal 2. We'll see how it goes... ;)

I'll try and ask him some time soon... I hope he at least will include it! I don't care how long I have to wait... I just need my adhesion gel!

  • Another cool thing Portal 2 needs. Why do they dump these fantastic ideas? (Don't tell me. I already know)

Once I get my Steam copy set up, I might make maps of the two missing gels (A few before the update, few after the update) I just gotta get it set up...

Question to the mapping community: Can you add custom images and dialogue to your maps? I'd LOVE to do that if you can! Make it feel like the real Portal 2... :D

  • @NinjaGirl345 About your mapping questions, both of those things are possible. In fact, it technically is possible to make a totally different game from scratch using the Portal 2 engine.

  • @BOB74j Thanks. I will most definitely try it once I finish downloading my copy off steam.

Another question: Does the Peer Review DLC download automatically on Steam? I don't want it until after I make some Adhesion Gel maps...

  • @NinjaGirl345 It automatically downloads. But you can still use the adhesion gel, AND make it actually work unlike it would by default. In this video's related videos is a video by Omnicoder, Portal 2 Sticky Paint/Gel Test. Omnicoder got the adhesion gel working again. He hasn't distributed his fine work yet, and by my guess probably won't do so until a mod called Portal: Alive and Kicking is released. But if you ask him nicely, he may be willing to at least let you know how soon you can use it.

  • @BOB74j Can you tell me how to get Adhesion Gel in this? I got Reflection Gel, and I am not amused... I gotta do my map again. XP

  • @NinjaGirl345 The reflection gel replaced the adhesion gel in the DLC update. You can't get the adhesion gel unless you were to have a backup of the game before the update. Even if you did have the backup, the adhesion gel would be mostly nonfunctional. You couldn't walk up walls with it. The reflection gel, though, was built on top of the adhesion gel. It has all the properties that the broken adhesion gel did (which is that propulsion gel stuff at 1:12), in addition to reflecting lasers.

  • @BOB74j Does water stop its' effects?

  • @Yzacata Yes. Water will remove any gel, whether the gel is functional or not.

  • @NinjaGirl345

I had some ideas of what would be cool for a portal game, such as gravity shifting, or water that you can swim in.

  • @BenjaminWirtz That sounds awesome! Perhaps someone can make a mod with those features, including the removed gels, intact. Too bad I'm no good at modding... I'd love to help.

  • This gel is like the same one in the end of Portal 2 where white gel was flowing through a tube, wheatly then broke it [ or something else ] then it spurted everywhere, from there it allowed you to shoot portals on the gel. [ Atleast so I think ]

  • @GamerNation1337 That's just normal conversion gel, which is used in a few other places in the game. They just look the same because this gel uses the conversion gel texture as a placeholder.

  • actually i think that the purple gel was in the game since it removes the gel from the item its like the clear gel so there was four gels

  • @xXKaithevampireXx Applying a gel to any object that has already been painted will override the previous gel type regardless of which two gel types are involved. Painting a blue cube orange will give it propulsion properties only, and painting an orange cube blue will give it repulsion properties only. In the same way, painting an orange cube with the new gel will override the propulsion effects with the adhesion effects.

  • I was hoping they'd bring back the gel, just with its walk-on-walls properties. That would be way more fun to work with. Although, this does have some potential, possibly shooting turrets around a corner, or... yeah nothing much you couldn't already do with portals. You could use it as a requirement to move on through a test so that you can keep it in place on a slope I suppose.

  • akso shooting yourself with the gel via portals turns your screen orange

  • The gel is now white!

  • 3:00 I guess you could say it was abandoned because the gels were a little

    *sunglasseS*

    GELOUS

    YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BlockDie824 so bad a joke

  • omg on the new test will be bad if they use this

  • 1 coat enclosed room in reflective gel

    2 activate a flashlight

    3 deactivate it

4 reflective gel reflects light and there's reflective gel on every surface

    5 enjoy permanently lit room

  • 1: coat yourself in gel

    2: find turret

    3: find lazer

    4: reflect lazer into turret

    5: ???

    6: profit

  • the one problem i see with this, and the probable reason why it was dummied out, is because of the level of accuract you would need to use with this reflection gel. the gel also wouldn't coat correctly on physics objects or non-flat surfaces.

  • 1: Coat enclosed room in reflec gel

    2: shoot a lazar into a corner

    3: ????

    4: profit

  • cool

  • ....... does this mean we might see something like this in DLC in the future...? OH MY GOD THOSE TESTS WILL BE HORRIBLE

  • @aurafox1 It's possible, but unlikely.

  • @aurafox1 TESTS IN HELL!

  • The worst thing in the world, coat the entire enclosed room in this gel, and the laser endlessly reflects

  • @TruthNeedBeTold I think that's why they removed it...

  • @TruthNeedBeTold That would be very lagtastic.

  • @BOB74j And that will eventually kill you.

  • Nice.

  • Or green

  • And maybe change the color so it won't the same color, like gray.

  • Also this want as a promotion video.

  • that would've been so awesome >_<

  • oh come on this would have created some really great puzzles

  • Nice, redirection gel!

  • Maybe in a new DLC. Because in the Co-Op Hub is a second unused tube, maybe for a the new DLC. But cool Video! Thumbs up
