well first off the public plan would have the power to dictate the prices to the hospital, if you don't this so look at medicare/medicad.

next the health insurance providers have to make a profit, government dosen't those two things alone would be able to throw the system off leading to a single payer system

Here's something to ponder, if con is the opposite of pro, then wouldn't congress be the opposite of progress? Anyhow, health care is imperative, the most important issue right now. 6 out of 10 foreclosures are caused by rising health care costs.

I disagree in Europe maybe pension are not so great but they are there. In Europe companies are obliged to put the pension quota in supercontrolled state funds. Oddly enough countries like Italy that have a huge public debt, has a virtuous pension fund. Controlled pension funds are in good shape in Europe. except maybe UK. The best I think is in France. But most of all the tendency of European to save money makes the difference. The US model and EU model are quite different .......

no you just said it we do specialized treatments here now, if it the government got involved and undercuts the plains we have in place now thereby moving to single payer. those costly specialized treatments that we get now and all we pay is a deductible will be gone to save cost obama said it himself. at the moment there are 49 million without coverage in the US why should the other 251 million suffer the lack of the life saving specialized treatment for that 49 million to have coverage?

this is another thing that gets me, I get coverage from my employer, way should i pay taxes on my coverage for someone to have pay the health care for someone who dose not want to pay the 250$ a month to get the most basic of coverage?

Firstofall I'm not upset, but I have heard lots of B. by americans, most conservative lads. For specialized I mean the illness that involves very few people rare genetic disfunctions. That's true US as some facilities, but the mass of US citizens don't need them. Your idea of specialized is different than mine. Well I'm Half Austrian and Half Italian and both countries, despite stereotypes, have excellent ealth systems and specialized clinics. Public and private live well together and the costs

are reasonable. You can have an insurance that will cover certain extraexpenses such as single room, or very few treatment not covered by the ealth system. We don't discuss about money on ealth, because is included in taxes. The effect is that in US If you are lucky medicines costs if you are lucky at least 10 times more. The state for balance reasons has all the interests to negotiate a lower price. I'm in Japan now and the system is the same and it works perfectly. I have lived in the US for

I'm always on the defensive when I talk about ealth system in EU because I've been told that europeans are all implanted with microchips, that we are comunist and many unbelievable stuff.

I think that all countries have social (not socialistic) duties which must be managed outside the public sector such as health, defence and pensions. Cordially
