Why is always that whenever some bystander sees something crazy they blame it on something they drink? Before anyone responds, this is a rhetorical question.
@CidTheNinja They're not actually his children. It's just a term he came up with when he seized power from his mother because it made him seem more reasonable. That's why he goes by "Lord Oberon" instead of "King Oberon."
@2wingo I know that. The same sort of thing goes on in real life world mythology. What I meant was that all these deities that were previously thought of as being the most powerful of their respective pantheons, but now we know that guys like the all-father aren't really the all-father of even their own pantheons. That's what's weak.
No one should be answering to Oberon, they're all their own Gods. This is ridiculous, what I don't understand is why Shakespeare's Oberon is used in so much media. Completely ridiculous.
@fuebix What other examples are there? Besides this show and of course "a mid summer nights dream" I have never seen oberon used for anything other than a minor character like in Neil Geimans the sandman series. Half the time they just call them fairies and dont even reference Oberon, titania , or puck. In fact this is one one of the only times I have seen the character get any real play.
Owen volunteered to test the effects of the magical cauldron to see if it granted immortality, something Xanataos was obsessed with at the time. It didn't work, but instead turned his immersed hand into stone. They were originally going to test it on Hudson and even faked his death so the rest of the clan wouldn't search for him. But he escaped so Owen stepped forward as a gesture of his loyalty to Xanatos.
The episode where he did not have the stone hand was posted out of order. Between the episode where he got the stone hand and this one, Oven appeared only once, and he not only clearly had it, he even used it in a fight.
WTF ANUBIS the god of life, death, and judgment... Is obeying the lord of FAIRIES... how does that work and ODIN too O.o... or the various other gods in the room
"Stay put this wont take long"...Sadly its Manhatten, filled with Gargoyles, and well...yea a simple task turns into a tedious fourteen week long task.......
Should we know the person that steps off just before Odin? I assume we're not supposed to recognize all of the characters in line, but quite a few are in other eps.
Since when were Anubis and Odin children of the fairy king? Faeries don`t even exist in Egyptian mythology! Oh man.... I guess this is where a child`s bliss becomes the greatest tool a story teller has because if I didn`t already love this show from when I was a kid, I`d think it a joke.
@IsolationInstigation They aren't Oberon real children. He just rules them in a fatherly fashion. He and Titania have had two unnamed children. But no Odin or Puck aren't their real children. Its just the manner he reigns over them is all.

Gargoyles pop up sometime later, then Humans, and Oberon's children (although basically individually immortal from the time they come into the world) are actually the youngest of the very intelligent races.
@joker70784 Oh, and the "Lost Race" is long dead, maybe very, very long as they predate Gargoyles, which predate Humans in this fictional world. But there's overlap between Gargoyls, Humans, and Oberon's children, so maybe they could have been around in the early pre-history of man. I don't know. Look up Greg Weisman forum or something like that. There's tons of mythology he wants/wanted to use, "everything is real" was his idea on that...every mythological being, he has ideas for the future
@IsolationInstigation Hadly a joke. They decided to have one unifying force for all the magical creatures. As they are huge Shakesperian fans so they took dominance.
So, I still don't get the Gathering; was it a family reunion meant to last a few centuries before letting all the Children go back to the real world, a chance for everyone to worship their Lord, or did everyone have to go back to Avalon and stay forever?
@ztslovebird Becase he feels paternal towards them, they're HIS people so he views them as HIS children. That's the explanation I rememer anyway. I found the expression on the jogger's face hilarious after Oberon and Boudicca stepped out of the portal at 6:02! It was even funnier after he emptied the rest his sport's drink on the ground like "I've got to stop drinking this."!
@ztslovebird I agree, but I think Weisman did this to show diversity in the Gargoyles Universe so he incorporated the Gods and Goddesses of other cultures under the same roof as a sort of "Religious Justice League", if you will, as if to say that all the world's relgions are tied in with each other with the pantheons of each working together for a common goal. Odd? Yes. Outrageous? Oh yeah. But very interesting and entertaining to consider.
@SuperSaiyanVegetable That's a cool way to look at it! Much nicer than mine. And from that perspective, it could be assumed that Oberon is the equivilent of God in the Gargoyles universe (which, if it were true in the real universe, would make SO much sense!!)!
@ztslovebird Why not? How else are you going to explain multiple pantheons? It worked for Xena. Anyway, they're only "gods" in the sense that their magic made them appear as such to primitive cultures thus forming each pantheon. In some cases, the Children (not to be taken literally in each and every case) were the basis for the myth. In others, they simply stepped into an already existing role and posed as such. The 3rd Race was Weisman's way of keeping the show's mantra: All Things Are True.
@eeeXXXyyyy Simply put, he can't nor could he ever. It seems they combined the All Father with with the Thunderer. If they were trying to compare Odin to Zeus, that's a tragedy because they're from two completely different pantheons and though both may have some common traits (i.e. both had rendezvous's with many women, both mortal and immortal, both had many children, both were masters of their domain, both were quite powerful), their powers were nothing alike.
This is an outrage to all of mythology. I mean, one thing is making all the other episodes fit into this, but... THERE WERE SEVERAL GODS THERE, FOR CHRISTS' SAKE!
@whotookCheesusChrist RIGHT? I had to force myself to laugh through the fact that I was srsly P-Oed. Did anyone else see Rorschach? 0:43 I peeeeeeeed in my pants! Medusa hanging around drinking cocktails on the balcony? I mean come on...didn't ANYONE at Disney raise their hand during the pitch meeting and say that this is a tad STUPID? xD
@thekatrid Now that you mention it, who the heck WAS that guy in a suit? Did Mandrake decide to dress up and mask himself and then go pop in for a visit or is Rorschach an elf?
If I were told that I was supposed to animate this, I think that I at least would've stopped drawing and say:
@NekoHybrid He was a character that Weisman never got a chance to do anything with. His name was Nought, and he was, quite simply, the god of Nothing.
I have a question, what episode has Goliath has a human, practically living a happy life with Elisa but the clan (i think) turns bad or the humans at least flee from them when they show up?
Dude Owen Freaked out O_o Thats definitely NOT normal. It must be bad. Hes never freaked out before doing all of Xanatoes deadly tests and dirty work.

@SuperSaiyanVegetable That's a cool way to look at it! Much nicer than mine. And from that perspective, it could be assumed that Oberon is the equivilent of God in the Gargoyles universe (which, if it were true in the real universe, would make SO much sense!!)!
ztslovebird 1 year ago
@ztslovebird Why not? How else are you going to explain multiple pantheons? It worked for Xena. Anyway, they're only "gods" in the sense that their magic made them appear as such to primitive cultures thus forming each pantheon. In some cases, the Children (not to be taken literally in each and every case) were the basis for the myth. In others, they simply stepped into an already existing role and posed as such. The 3rd Race was Weisman's way of keeping the show's mantra: All Things Are True.

wait since when can odin use thunderbolts :OOOO
eeeXXXyyyy 1 year ago
@eeeXXXyyyy Simply put, he can't nor could he ever. It seems they combined the All Father with with the Thunderer. If they were trying to compare Odin to Zeus, that's a tragedy because they're from two completely different pantheons and though both may have some common traits (i.e. both had rendezvous's with many women, both mortal and immortal, both had many children, both were masters of their domain, both were quite powerful), their powers were nothing alike.

This is an outrage to all of mythology. I mean, one thing is making all the other episodes fit into this, but... THERE WERE SEVERAL GODS THERE, FOR CHRISTS' SAKE!
whotookCheesusChrist 1 year ago
@whotookCheesusChrist I think the point is that all the gods in the series are Oberon's Children.
Crithosceleg 1 year ago
@whotookCheesusChrist RIGHT? I had to force myself to laugh through the fact that I was srsly P-Oed. Did anyone else see Rorschach? 0:43 I peeeeeeeed in my pants! Medusa hanging around drinking cocktails on the balcony? I mean come on...didn't ANYONE at Disney raise their hand during the pitch meeting and say that this is a tad STUPID? xD
thekatrid 1 year ago
@thekatrid Now that you mention it, who the heck WAS that guy in a suit? Did Mandrake decide to dress up and mask himself and then go pop in for a visit or is Rorschach an elf?
If I were told that I was supposed to animate this, I think that I at least would've stopped drawing and say:
"Wait, what was I to make again?"
whotookCheesusChrist 1 year ago
@whotookCheesusChrist He was a character that Weisman never got a chance to use. His name was Nought, and he was, basically, the god of Nothing.

0:43 Was that supposed to be the Phantom of the Opera or something?
NekoHybrid 1 year ago
@NekoHybrid He was a character that Weisman never got a chance to do anything with. His name was Nought, and he was, quite simply, the god of Nothing.

"Are you two related?"
Looks like we're not the only ones that think those two look alike.

My favorite arc in the whole series. The fairies and gods in Gargoyles are the best.

@robyndeannejanes How? It's better knowing all the backstories. Otherwise you wouldn't care about the storyline.
