Jesus people! It says BMC on the side, some company from Brazil. Not BMW. Yes it is a Chevy, perhaps a Cruze. And no that is not Hyundai the car company sponsoring them. It is Hyundai Merchant Marine Co. It is a merchant shipping company.
There is no way he thought about getting out as soon as he noticed the fire. My guess is that he set off the inbuilt extinguisher system and carried on driving. This system isn't designed for that so the guy left it too long.
The smoke was in the cabin so driving or not wouldn't change anything and driving is fanning the flames and sending more fuel to the fire. Shoulda just pulled up and got out, clearly fancies himself as a stuntman.

With momentum the flames would stay mostly behind the car. Smart driver in a desperate situation. What type of cars/engines do they run down there?
i guess they are running with 350 SBC engines... at least that's what i could undestand from this "Stock Car - Copa Caixa" description :P
