You might like the 1964 orchestrated version from the CD "At Basin Street East: Duke Ellington and Orchestra" even more. You can hear that version with a search for "Jazz In Bloom: May Flowers" and search for the song (or Billy Strayhorn) on the page. Johnny seems a little restrained here in comparison, plus the backing band adds a lot. Well worth hunting down. Too bad no video.
It doesn't get any better than this! Johnny playing as if he hasn't a care in the world.Absolutely gorgeous,nobody but nobody wrote for Johnny like Maestro Ellington and Sweet Pea Billy Strayhorn.Put this on countinual loop for me and I would be in bliss.What long tones.

The lyrical poetry of Johnny Hodges,painting beautiful notes of female symmetry,reminding me of a painter absorbed with much passions for beauty.

Johnny Hodges alto sax. What an incredible sound.
I never get tired of watching this video.
I’d the chance of getting the DVD Duke Ellington*Soft and Gentle some time ago.
I’ll check it to find what you want to know.

@karenannc
In fact the DVD I’ve got doesn’t have this information.
This composition is from Billy Strayhorn .
