i had shoulder surgery about 3 weeks ago cause of a Really bad labrum tear on both sides of it and it was supose to be 1hr and 30mins but instead it was almost 4hrs due to finding damage tissue from hyper extending it to much in the past
Does your shoulder stay in place better after surgery immediately? I don't have ANY PAIN in my shoulder now, but it subluxes all the time, even with just driving. I don't even rely on my shoulder in my sport (rollerblader, tore it on weird fall off a rail), but my humerus sublexing is driving me nuts! Should I consider this, or just wait for a while?
I had this surgery on my right shoulder. Took almost a year to feel normal, but it's 100% and strong as hell now. Now, I just ripped the labrum on my left side doing push ups and have to have it done in Oct. The post surgery pain is the WORST, but seems to fade fast after three days.
unfortunately, the only way to fix this and relieve the pain is surgery.
oooooh..didn't read all comments but as somebody very experienced wtih weight training and 2 shoulder surgeries I will tell you this--if you are considering the SLAP surgery, make sure that you can't live without it. I am 9 months out of rehab and just now about back to where i was prior to surgery.
@WidowMakerOU812 Depends on your age & how committed you are to PT. My range of motion is horrible. When I put my good arm b/n my back, palm out, I can put my hand up b/n my shoulder blades. On my bad arm, my hand is about 6" lower down near my bottom ribs........
Thanks for sharing, had my surgery Jan, 13. I have seen the pics but not the actual surgery. It was neat to see what they do. My recovery has been good, I can't say that it don't hurt 'cause it hurts like a son of a gun, but it has for the most part been tolerable. I don't like having to sleep on the recliner every night for 6 weeks, but I tried to lay down and can't yet. Good luck to all of you who have to get this done. I love my Dr. He is amazing how yours is just as good!
My family doc is a fucking cocksucker.. Told me nothing was wrong with shoulder. I got my chart and it showed impingement from regular MRI. Went to an ortho and had arthrogram performed last week. Just got back from ortho. Posterior Labral Tear with Subluxation. Lesson learned=get your records and look over them.
I had mine scoped 10 years ago for labral tear and now it's worse than ever. Be sure and ask for an arthrogram if they tell you the MRI showed nothing. They think now I have a posterior labral tear.
Had the same surgery about 2 months ago. My labrum in my left shoulder was torn completely off the bone. They put in 5 anchors to tie it back down and they also had to shrink my shoulder capsule.1 month in a sling Now Im doin physical therapy and the pain is almost unbearable. My advice is deff start takin your pain meds BEFORE the block wears off, mentally prepare yourself for alot of pain, and Do your at home exercises everyday no excuses. God Bless and I hope We all have speedy recoveries! :)
Had similar procedure two weeks ago. A torn cuff, torn labrum, A.C. joint cleaning and the removal of a large calcium deposit which required another full through opening in cuff to to access. They anchor strapped the cuff. If there is one thing I can advise, it is to prepare for assistance after the operation. How could there be a worse physical pain? Even women who have given birth consider this much worse. I wish all a safe and healthy recovery. elkhunter
BEST DOCTOR TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE IS DR.STEPHEN J RATERMAN DOWN HERE IN TAMPA FLORIDA THIS GUY IS GREAT I HAD A LABRUM TEAR DURING MY FOOTBALL SEASON AND IT WAS BOTHERING ME FOR A WHILE IT WAS CONSTANT CLICKING/STABBING PAIN SO I GOT THE SURGERY DONE ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO AND THE THERAPY IS THE WORST TIME FOR THE FIRST 2 MONTHS BUT THAN IT STARTS FEELING BETTER
@813birdman52 I had a tear and im gonna have to get surgery soon.. Does your shoulder go back to full strength? cuz im a pitcher and i really need my shoulder to be at full strength for baseball season
I had this surgery 5 years ago and the pain was really bad, but mine was a little worse than normal because I had some bone spurs and he had to do a lot of "digging". The aftermath with the physical therapy was very bad in the beginning, but the therapy was just as important as the surgery. DO EXACTLY WHAT THEY TELL YOU or you will be sorry. In my case I am very glad I had the surgery, the recovery was very long, but it is fixed and I am grateful.
i just had my 2nd labral repair. hopefully this one works dont want another surgery. recovery depends on the person. since im in the military and my arm being so jacked up i have to take it slow. Plus im never allowed to bench press or do push-ups again with all the stress it points on where i had surgery
i got this surgery last week and am getting scared because i have about half my range of motion in my shoulder back and its only been a week. i feel like i mightv messed it up..any opinions?
@nodachowski usually, surgery like this has a full recovery time of a few months depending on the amount of work done. i dont really think you should be trying or testing movement yet.
@nodachowski don't be scare. a full recovery period is a few months depending on the extent of the surgery. in my opinion and most doctors opinions, at this point you still should be testing the movement. that may further delay total recovery time. as hard as it is, just rest; thats the best thing you can do for it.
i had slap surgery monday just gone and it was great watching on the 20" hd tv in front of me whilst they were fixing it. apparently the tear was quite bad so they advised a minimum of 6 weeks off work and in a sling and then 2 more weeks after that resting it. i have to say though, 3 days after surgery it is quite annoyingly painful, not too bad but its annoying. im pleased ive had the procedure done and cant wait till my arm is back to normal.
thanks, it feels much better now, its been 2 weeks post op and im starting PT in a couple days. still in sling for 4 more weeks. cant wait to go wakeboarding and surfing again! shoulder still hurts a bit and feels stiff but thats expected.
its been 2 weeks and it feels much better. its still hard to sleep at night but at least i can lay down flat now. every day is getting a little bit better.cant wait for PT so i can start surfing again...of course its been the best winter for waves in 10 years and i am missing it! hopefully by april i am able to wakeboard lightly for our river trip!
Just had slap surgery and it's been 4 days so far and it f****** hurts bad..I can't get enough painkillers in me! The doc said it was a type ii but when he got in there it was alot worse then he thought. When they say keep your sling on and stay put they mean it. Don't try to go to work 2 days later! You will regret it. I injured it in jui jitsi and again surfing 3 months later when it dislocated. Doc says 6 wks in sling and 6 wks pt.we will see
I had this surgery about a year ago. One thing I'll tell you also, is listen to your doctor and physical therapist. If you don't do all your exercises regularly, your shoulder is going to bother you worst than it did pre-surgery. Hope all goes well on recovery
My surgery cost about 26,000 but I was also on the extreme end of the scale. Was in surgery for nearly five hours. So i'd say anywhere from 15 to 25 K's on average
I had a SLAP repair, Bankhart repair, plus a lesion on my glenoid (which can't be repaired), and a small amount of rotator cuff damage repaired about 3 weeks ago. Took 5 anchors (which are the sutures you see in the video). I had been living with a bum shoulder for about 8 years and all I can say is already have 3 weeks post-op I can tell a huge difference in stability in shoulder. Hurts but its much tighter. For those who need this surgery its not too bad. Just stay ontop of the pain meds. :)
I just had the arthroscopic surgery on 7/9/09...It has been one week and thus far I have had 0 pain...The surgeon already let me take the sling off and I am allowed to do "normal activity" and lift light objects...My range of motion is already 50%+
If you are considering this surgery, do it...it was a breeze...and when they say 4-6 month recovery, they mean 4-6 months til you can start throwing 100 lb dumbells around...I had it done on a thurs and went to work on monday...
sounds like you had a good surgery i had this done twice in less than six months could have been that we had different tears in our labrums i don't know but i have had pure hell and excruiating pain!!!
@donnybrosco6868was wondering how your surgery has healed since 7/9/09?as i am opting to surgery after being hit by a car while riding my bicycle.thanks
I have to get this done i just wan to know if your asleep and hows the recovery being a pitcher they have also recommended tommyjohn but im a little edgy on both.. thhiis looks too SKETCHY..ARE YOU ASLEEP FOR THIS PROCEDURE
Yes, out cold. In fact, I had a block done between my shoulder & neck that kept me numb for 30 hours. And when it wears off, holy _______! When the Ortho Dr says to start taking pain meds when your fingers start to tingle, TAK'EM!! And every 2 - 4 hrs, as prescribed.
