So how do you go about getting and installing those bottom lights that are on your front bumper? I have the same truck and I was thinking about adding those kinds of lights but I dont even know what they are called or where to look. Thanks for any help.
these are killer trucks i had a 94 they have a few problems one is EGR valve is always getting clogged up, easy fix take it off and clean it. But a huge problem is the fuel system they have what looks like a spider with the injectors at teh end on each line. the lines all cross and rub which creates pin hole leaks. which will make truck run like shit
Just a thought, I can't grasp why dudes put (keep) running boards on these things. I'd remove those, along with the.. Spoiler(?) thing.. And the little rain deflector on the underside of the front bumper. Then I'd put a 92-93 front clip/chrome grill on it and lower it 2-3". The two-door 4x4 Jimmy and blazer s-series could look so fucking good.. And they perform too, with the Vortec 4.3 anyway. That's it, I'm gonna go buy one.
I too have a 1989 GMC S-15 Jimmy 4.3lt 4X4. It is ruff for body. Have you pulled the engine out of one before? I bought a Haynes repair manual. I knwo the 4.3s are a best of a engine. Is it difficult pulling the engine out if you have done it before. I am looking to turn it into a Typhoon.
@X2N18 hey bud, you can pop of the the covers on top of the spoiler with a screwdriver and beneath that are two screws. just undo those and the spoiler will come off. however there will still be two pieces that raise up to hold the spoiler that are part of the hinge. you'll have to find two flat hinges and swap them out in order to get a clean look.
Looks great, I just got a 1989 Gypsy, it stored for about 8 years. Is like new. The only thing I have to buy is the tires and a coupkle of seals from the windows. 34000 original miles. Will post some pics for people to chek it. Congrats on yours.
Fair enough, too each their own. Although this video was made a while ago and I have changed a fair amount since this was done. If you're interested, check out my most recent update video 'GMC Jimmy'
Of all places...I bought a few cans of flat black paint and grey primer from Canadian Tire. It was just basic spray paint. Try to find something that claims to be durable for stone chips and the wear and tear your wheels will see. Hope this helps.
Nice looking jimmy, takes some work to keep up with all the problems an old vehicle come up with while trying to upgrade. My son has a 94 2dr 4x4 and likes what you did with the billet grille, wants to change that chrome look to black. Where did you find the billet grille? Have been looking all over the web and have not had any luck in finding one that will fit a 94. May have to get out the hammer and start to fabricate one to fit.
yeah man i resetnly bought a 99 jimmy and im doin some work on it. but lately its just been engine work liek alternator etc. but that looks really good just i dont like the blackrims you should use chrome!
im sorry but i HATE running boards they make it look like its for old people that need assistance or something, oh i got running boards off my blazer for sale who wants em?
lol no problem. I have actually removed the running boards since i made this video. I think it may be time to make an update video since i have changed a few other things as well.
Thanks for the comments. my first car was a 95 pontiac grand am. it was a good car, but after having the jimmy, i cannot see going back to cars. i love the way a truck rides and feels. before the grand am though our family car was an 89 blazer...it was sold for a mazda 3 in 2004. let's just say i never got over the loss :)
They're just basic 'Blazer Original Equipment' brand driving lights. They're 55w and they are brighter than my headlights on low beam which are 35w and 65w on high.
Thank you. I think I should make another video. I have changed some things since I put this up. Took the running boards off, moved the lights, took off the pin-stripes and got slightly bigger wheels and tires.
That's awesome. I love it! Sorry if I'm mistaken but is yours the pick-up truck version (S10)? Because as far as I know S15 refers to the Jimmy SUV...
No it's an S15 pickup with a 4.3L in it. I had never heard of one myself and everyone always calls it an S10 but it's a 1989 GMC S15 High Sierra. Google it and you can find some pics.
hey i love the balcked out look but u have go to get rid of the gay running boards. they hurt the entire look of the truck. they make it look like a grandpa jimmy. put some bigger meatier tires on it too it would look 100% better. but for the most part looks good dude.
Hey man, that is a really sweet Jimmy! I had a '93 for my first. And now I have a 2000 2 door! I love that yours is all blacked out. its amazing looking!! 4.3 vortec for life!
Awesome. I also have a 89 Gmc Jimmy. I bought it from a friend and he had a few things done to it. We have the same grille and it was recently painted. Also put flowmasters on it, I absolutly love it. Only thing I have a problem with is the Digital stuff inside, the odometer and what not doesn't work :( and sometimes all of it will just go blank. Kinda scary when you dont no how much gas you have left!!
oh geez, that has to be interesting :S mine has the traditional gauge cluster. i plan to put flowmasters on mine too. either 40's or super 40's. i am also looking into getting bigger wheels and tires, possibly some BF Goodrich KO's. the running board's and fender flares that are on it make the tire/wheel combination look too dainty for my liking.
hey. thanks, much appreciated :) i was considering doing that. i have the old badge off of the stock grille. however i want to keep everything blacked out, so i painted it. i am also having some difficulty mounting it as the billet grille isn't 100% compatible.
I have a '72 Bay Window VW bus that's slammed, and I have the top chopped. Lot's of interior mods to get a 327 Chev' into it. PosiTrac from a Catalina going in back too. I'm picking up a 1962 Volvo 544 2-door pretty soon, and that will be my daily driver sooner than later.
That is a gorgeous car. I have a four door 1994 S15 Jimmy. It is a great car. It's the last year they made them with that body style. Where did you get the grill guard in the first picture? Did you ever have problems with rust on the body?
Oh yeah one more question haha i have the same rims but I hate the dull metal coloration. Did you just spraypaint yours
