I don't think this is completely live. Maybe pre-recorded live, but not all live here. During and after the Butterfly era, when she went for the higher belting notes, she always leaned back or to the side and didn't do those spirit fingers she does when she lip-synchs. It STILL sounds good, though.

i use to be in a foster homw i actually lived my whole child hood in it until i was 14 and i am 15 my parents have me now(: and yes foster care is scary i had bruses and was always locked in my room if i did not eat quick enough they would take me food i weighed 80 pounds at age 12 and 13

I remember watching this special and thinking that it was kinda depressing of her to have sung this song for this show. But she did it SO amazingly beautifully (and changed the lyric in the bridge to "the day you gave me life" instead of "before you gave me life" which was cool. Amazing performance...heart wrenching song. Best song on the Glitter soundtrack (#2 is Lead The Way). :-)
@ricobhi The 'Glitter' Album/Soundtrack was one of her best during the early '00 era up until 2005 I'd say. It sucks that it's association with the movie killed it. It was a great album and the fact that she was able to write such great music and produce such great music with all that she was going through.
it is sad that songs from this album didnt get much attention...only LOVERBOY was played non stop as it was considered a more mainstream pop..This song is 1 of my fav(besideslead the way & never too far)...full of emotions and vocally fantastic... Mariah does such songs best...

It is crazy. This album was a flop due to the context, and people were fed up with her at this time, but the songs were great, emotionnal, and her voice was very very good, with lots of nuances, intensity, and whispearing effects that she lost today.

i always feel that her voice is so fragile,espcially on live prfmnce. i always feel..oh she's out of breath..her voice gonna crack. but thnk god she has backng vocals army that could cover the part the she unable to do

This song was the last song Mariah sang in the old Mariah voice, vocally from this song out it was downhill. She could NOT sing this song today. One of her best songs, love it.

I kind of agree. She would probably have difficulty singing this song, but would be able to. Yes, this is the "classic Mariah voice". Her voice sounded fine in Glitter. It didn't deserve so much hatred!

I remember watching this special and thinking that it was kinda depressing of her to have sung this song for this show. But she did it SO amazingly beautifully (and changed the lyric in the bridge to "the day you gave me life" instead of "before you gave me life" which was cool. Amazing performance...heart wrenching song. Best song on the Glitter soundtrack (#2 is Lead The Way). :-)

@ricobhi The 'Glitter' Album/Soundtrack was one of her best during the early '00 era up until 2005 I'd say. It sucks that it's association with the movie killed it. It was a great album and the fact that she was able to write such great music and produce such great music with all that she was going through.

it is sad that songs from this album didnt get much attention...only LOVERBOY was played non stop as it was considered a more mainstream pop..This song is 1 of my fav(besideslead the way & never too far)...full of emotions and vocally fantastic... Mariah does such songs best...
