And vocals were so much more genuine (Karen Carpenter would be rolling in her grave at the thought of auto-tune). Rutger Hauer is the king of weirdness in movies, 'The Hitcher' & 'The Nighthawks' are my favorites. That Sean Bean guy who plays the title role in the shitty remake is a decent actor, but as with many of horror movie remakes, the writers and director were the biggest problem.

I love the remake! Sean Bean and Sophia Bush were freakin amazing and don't forget that a remake is just a new version of a movie and not a copy so stop complaining about the new hitcher and the differences between the old and the new version. They did a great job and if you don't like it, don't watch it.
C. Thomas Howell was only 18 years old at the time.
To have not only the lead in a (relatively) big production, but to appear in almost every scene of it, meanwhile delivering a real and honest performance is by no means an easy task. It's impressive how he delivers.
And of course Rutger Hauer's performance is one of the best in his career (that was/ is full of great performances.)
It is Rutger in all his Rutgerness, if that makes sense....

I'm 16 and this version was a lot better than the remake. I find that horror 80's synthesizer music in the background really helped. Not to mention Mr. Hauer really plays a good psychopath.

Oh go fuck yourself! Rutger Hauer is 10 shades of awesome in this role, while Sean Bean comes off as just a ridiculous, Snidey Whiplash-y imitation. But if you want to continue having NO TASTE AT ALL, enjoy your Godawful remake and DON'T BOTHER COME HERE EVER AGAIN.

Advancing? Not really... since 99% of the movies are horrid (GI Joe, most of the remakes - TCM, Omen, HITCHER, Fog, HalloweeN...)
Oh, and btw...
The new James Bonds are amazing, but Sean Connery is THE Bond.
And the original WOW IS better than the remake, absolutely. It's a movie from the '50s that still looks believable today (maybe not to nitwits like you) while the remake looked fake in the year it came out.

I'm 16 and this version was a lot better than the remake. I find that horror 80's synthesizer music in the background really helped. Not to mention Mr. Hauer really plays a good psychopath.

This is a favorite movie of mine. The other day, I drove past two teens with their thumbs out and it made me think of this movie. This movie had me think about hitchhikers.

I'm with you, screw the remake and to hell with the moronic "sequel." When is this movie gonna get the blu-ray treatment??!! Fans in the UK get a 2 disc DVD special edition and we yanks get stuck with a bare-bones release with only the trailer as a bonus. WTF???

First things first the hitcher remake came out in 2007, not 2008, second things, you're awfully stupid if you think old stuff sucks and new stuff rules by default. For every Hills Have Eyes there are a thousands Prom Nights, but if you like the Hitcher remake, I think you lack something called taste, and also grammar and sense; I can only make out half of your 'comment'. Third, just to make it sure you understand, GTFO and DIAF.
