As far as I know, Ninjas had been spies and local peasant militias most of the time, the article I read spoke of the spying ninja assasins (lol) to be actual travelling monks who barely killed anyone besides their target. The peasant militia used guerillia tactics to even out their lack of armor, men and military skill, means they sneaked up on them and what not. Its said that Ninjas from the movies and games are a pretty altered version of the real ones.
technically, the ninja will win because, they are master of assassin, I suppose a spartan will one on one but that's really telling a sniper to do one on one combat with a samurai, you can't do apples and oranages
so they have no chance of winning in a very close combat like wrestling or such a stuff. but they are also skilled in range combat like throwing shiruken and tricks like pepper bomb, or smoke bombs. but spartans can use shields to deflect even long-bow arrows and have great constutition and durability against many things cause they ve been raised in that way. so they have more advantage in survival skills. it depends who is skilled more, and enviromental conditions and also luck.

for those who dont think the the Spartans didnt have a formal hand to hand combat they were trained in Pankrationa blend of boxing and wrestling but with almost no rules save disallowing biting and gouging the opponent's eyes out. I didn't fancy this episode,why? Ninjas are assassins, attacking mainly at night or when least expected. also if you guys didnt know, spartans are not always wearing their armor, their helmets are extremely heavy and so when they traveled or are not in combat, there is no need to wear it. I like the idea, and its fun to theorize, but you have to bear in mind that it proves NOTHING. These LARPers are not real warriors, no matter how they think they've been trained. Our understanding of history is not as thorough as we assume it is. Human beings these days automatically think we're stronger and cleverer than anyone who preceded us, and that is just not always the case.

The simulation was constructed to give the Spartan a fair fight, and MAYBE in a fair fight, the spartan would win, if the ninja wasn't much faster and deadlier with his blade. Every single shuriken and blow dart was thrown at an area of the body the spartan was likely to defend with his shield and the ninja wouldn't even have pulled those out when he was one on one, that would have been from the tree aiming at uncovered parts of his body. In close combat, you're going to have the ninja throwing fucking stars?? He'd have his sword out at least, and they did a test with a kusarigama vs. bronze armor, not a fucking ninjato. @shinbooks true.But what also struck me as weird to do in a fight was that when the ninja gott knocked down by the shield,he jumps up again in front and way to close to the spartan.I'm no expert in martial arts,but the main princip in any fight is get at least 2-3 foot distance between you and the opnent after a knock down.I've seen the jump up flip done ine sevral martial arts movies,but they are staged.In real life the spartan would just knocked him down agai if he did that.

@NarowAR07 still ninja's are very deadly. had the best combat system based on jiujutsu. and the actual ninja art was very detailed and very deadly including tendons joints nerves etc. not nearly enough respect to the ninja. not to mention stealth, smoke bombs, ninja stars, ambush mentality etc. but still full armor, massive spear and shield is hard to beat.

Ofc the weaponry is important and makes a big difference, but what's more important is the way you use the weapon and how skillfull you are with it, and ofc clever and smart to figure out tactics to victory.

@kainheinrich The spartan wouldn't actually "open". They used the shields for impact, with spears sticking out between them. The spartan had armour on the arms and legs. Even though it's bronze, any sword would bounce off or at best get him a light wound.

Ninja's carried all sorts of weapons that a spartan would not be able to defend against. 1) smoke bombs; 2) Tetsubushi, 3) poisons; 4) shurikens; 5) blow guns, 6) metsubushi, 7) kusari gamma, 8) bo, 9) yari, 10) kyoste shoge, 11) shuko's, 12) Ninja to, 13) fire arms, 14) kusari fundo, 15) kammas, 16) sai's, 17) nets, 18) mirrors, and the list goes on and on.

@newdude32 Yes, you right, but there are some no conver points. For example, the metsubushi (black eggs) used by the Ninja to blind the Spartan should have blinded him permanently; a ninjato hit to the eye and yeah, the Ninja wins.
@KingSygma That is true. Spartans are tough, but not tough enough to take broken glass to the eyes. But there is still that shield in the way of anything the ninja can chuck. The shield is the main asset that the spartan has. without it he would be toast.

ninjas werent warriors, they were assassins, no one can beat an assassin because the enemy does not even know they are being targeted. you cant beat an assassin, therefore a ninja wins 100 percent of the time. if the spartan caught them and it is one on one, yea the spartan would most probably kill the ninja but otherwise hes got no chance, no one does

and you had no moral or honor, you had glasspowder which you threw against the eyes of the enemy, it blinds you instantly.
in a 1v1 a ninja would beat all but the most skilled fighters.
the average spartan warrior did not spend 100% of his time practicing, his full time job was not being a warrior. a ninjas full time job was being an assassin, they practiced constantly.

Ninjas are assassins, attacking mainly at night or when least expected. also if you guys didnt know, spartans are not always wearing their armor, their helmets are extremely heavy and so when they traveled or are not in combat, there is no need to wear it. It will litteraly make you bald if you were to wear it too often. but i Understand that this was taken out of context and is for entertainment.

I like the idea, and its fun to theorize, but you have to bear in mind that it proves NOTHING. These LARPers are not real warriors, no matter how they think they've been trained. Our understanding of history is not as thorough as we assume it is. Human beings these days automatically think we're stronger and cleverer than anyone who preceded us, and that is just not always the case.

The simulation was constructed to give the Spartan a fair fight, and MAYBE in a fair fight, the spartan would win, if the ninja wasn't much faster and deadlier with his blade. The point is, the ninja doesn't give a fair fight. If his mission was to kill the spartan, the spartan would be dead. PERIOD. Training since you were 8 doesn't protect you from the element of surprise, lightning fast reflexes and speed, and tempered fucking steel. These aren't persians.. *smh* worst sim they've done..

Every single shuriken and blow dart was thrown at an area of the body the spartan was likely to defend with his shield and the ninja wouldn't even have pulled those out when he was one on one, that would have been from the tree aiming at uncovered parts of his body. In close combat, you're going to have the ninja throwing fucking stars?? He'd have his sword out at least, and they did a test with a kusarigama vs. bronze armor, not a fucking ninjato. Kusarigama is a crop-cutter.

@shinbooks true.But what also struck me as weird to do in a fight was that when the ninja gott knocked down by the shield,he jumps up again in front and way to close to the spartan.I'm no expert in martial arts,but the main princip in any fight is get at least 2-3 foot distance between you and the opnent after a knock down.I've seen the jump up flip done ine sevral martial arts movies,but they are staged.In real life the spartan would just knocked him down agai if he did that.

Noone can say "ninja should've have won" or "partan should've won" etc . You can't do that kind of comparison. It's so many factors that takes place, like: Personality, physics, environment and much more. Well, this is average tests, but i think its more like a deadliest weapon comparison. Ofc the weaponry is important and makes a big difference, but what's more important is the way you use the weapon and how skillfull you are with it, and ofc clever and smart to figure out tactics to victory.

spartan would have lost, the software is BS it only meassures the weapons, in real fight the ninja would have stayed where the spartan cant hit hi, and when the spartan opened up SLASH to the troat(spartan dies), or the arm (drops his spear or sword) or the leg(cant mve) the spartan cant hold up for much longer and dies..also the black eggs would have gotten the spartan killed they are not about pain but the fact you cant see, gives the ninja enough time to butcher the brainless spartan brute

@kainheinrich The spartan wouldn't actually "open". They used the shields for impact, with spears sticking out between them. The spartan had armour on the arms and legs. Even though it's bronze, any sword would bounce off or at best get him a light wound.
But I agree, this show is shit. I recall some historian saying that the knight from the cover had 2 parts of equipement that were 500 years appart. How could they fail so hard...

First of all, a spartan would be no match for a ninja! This show really limited the ninja's arsenal. Ninja's carried all sorts of weapons that a spartan would not be able to defend against. 1) smoke bombs; 2) Tetsubushi, 3) poisons; 4) shurikens; 5) blow guns, 6) metsubushi, 7) kusari gamma, 8) bo, 9) yari, 10) kyoste shoge, 11) shuko's, 12) Ninja to, 13) fire arms, 14) kusari fundo, 15) kammas, 16) sai's, 17) nets, 18) mirrors, and the list goes on and on.

The ninjas worked in groups, as did most spartans, but Ninja attacked at night, thus taking away Spartan advantages. So in my book the ninja should have won. I was surprised he didn't and he even shouted (Ninja were silent Samurai yelled) but seeing how this is a show I shouldn't rant. But I am glad about the Viking VS Samurai one ^_^
