I like the alternate Battle 1 theme, and I was hoping it would've been included in the Prehistoric time-period part of this game. Too bad it didn't happen, though.
The full Lavos theme actually plays on two separate occasions in the US release of this game... The first time is when you see that introductory videotape of Lavos destroying the world at Arris Dome in 2300 AD, and the second time is during the boss rush phase during the battle against Lavos.
The first song was actually meant to be Boss Battle 2, it was used on zenan bridge and against Masamune, id assume it was also gonna be for Black Tyranno etc. as well.
First Battle Theme: 2010 (No Lavos) ; Warzone, complete with Modern Military elements, but also has Mecha, possibly early versions of machines like Robo. This is not supposed to be like Terminator, but rather, along the lines of Robots helping Humans fight other Men and Robots.
*Sigh* I know. I know. I know. I mean it sounds like it should be in a Final Fantasy game more than Chrono Trigger. I know its' the same guy, people. Thanks.
@lynnvryett Boss Battle 1 does sound a lot like a Final Fantasy Tactics theme, I can just see all the characters moving around and taking turns fighting.
But I'm saying it has less of a Chrono Trigger feel and more of a Final Fantasy feel. I'm not thinking in terms of company or composer, but in terms of the overall game itself.
You are not hearing weird at all. Nobuo Uematsu (composer for the FF series) has contributed a total of ten tracks on the official CT soundtrack, and his tracks wield a strong musical signature, notable in the use of rock organ synths and particular basslines. Boss Battle 1 was apparently composed by Noriko Matsueda, and Uematsu is responsible for the more rock/upbeat arrangement that was actually used in the game. Some of these unused tracks might've been composed by Uematsu.
@lynnvryett Ironic you say that, this piece became Boss Battle 1 which happened to be composed by Nobuo Uematsu, the man responsible for the first 10 Final Fantasy soundtracks!
Lavos' Theme (Complete) played in the Final Version when you fight him after taking out Queen Zeal in the Black Omen. I actually discovered it by accident because of how long it took to beat his Boss Rush. I forget if it also played in Arris Dome when [the party] first discovers him.
DS version of the song is the complete version remastered.
And I thought I was educated in Chrono Trigger's pre-release music... I'm sorry, but Battle 1 Alternate sounded downright ugly to me. I'm glad that they didn't use it. The other version from the pre-release was cooler to me. It was essentially the same as the final version but with this really cool bass synth kind of thing going on. I have to mention this: you forgot about Singing Mountain. That was from the pre-release but didn't make it until the DS version came out (much like Battle 2).
I remember the Lavos theme also occuring when Lavos falls from the sky in 65,000,000 BC after kicking Queen Azla's (is that it) behemoth's ass on the SNES version.
The unused Battle 2 song is actually used in the DS version. It plays while fighting with that monster thing you can raise in that Arena of Ages area new to the DS version. You can also battle your friends with multi-card.
Hmm... the Battle 1 Alternate sounds very much so like the one that was formed from separate takes in the V Jump preview. They were probably in the process of working it to get the one we have in the formal release.
are you people crazy? it was a masterpiece.. fantastic character development, fantastic backgrounds, okay graphics for the time, amazing atmospheric music... not to mention the story... what was wrong with it?
I haven't played it, but I'm going to guess people played FF6 and then 7 expecting something bigger, more expansive, and with a lot of character diversity, but didn't get that experience. That tends to happen.
The alternate battle theme (5:41) sounds like it would fit in well in 65'000'000BC - just sounds like it has that kind of feel to it, you know? Lavos' full theme sounds a little diffrent in this version by the end than it does in the actual game.
Chrono Trigger never really set itself up for a second game not even for Chrono Cross, at all. I don't know why they did it but I guess it made the games sales a little more. The Lavos's theme song this one is played in the snes version. I know, I have the game and played it alot. How to get it you have to died while fighting Lavos the song will start to play if you leave it alone for a few seconds and it loops so you can listen to it all.
the lavos' theme that was played here is similar to the one used while fighting the final part of the first form of lavos after the black omen. the final version sounded cleaner after the "day the world revived" portion though. the instruments used for the cresciendo in this version sounded sloppy.
The Boss battle theme sounds goes great with fighting a dinosaur. just like the alternate battle theme sounds like something that should have been used in 65k BC. The keepers dome theme sounds cool, but I think the one that was used better fit the mood of a guru stuck in a ruined world and losing his mind. If World Revived would have kept that choir backing, it would have been the best song on Trigger & the choir track is good, but I think it was replaced by the Cathedral song which sounds great
This first song, the Boss Battle 1 remix...that was meant for Tyrano Lair in the Pre-release, but was played in the battles on Zenin Bridge (Though not for Zombor, but yeah).
I like the alternate Battle 1 theme, and I was hoping it would've been included in the Prehistoric time-period part of this game. Too bad it didn't happen, though.

Apparently, Battle 1 alt indicates that there would've been a different battle theme for every age. Now THAT would've been awesome.

The unused choir...it seems like it'd fit in somewhere in 2300 A.D. It is actually rather sad-sounding.

@lynnvryett If I remember correctly, that's because the people who made this game made final fantasy.

That's because these were composed by Nobuo Uematsu, who also composes Final Fantasy songs.

Keeper's Dome sounds sooo much like a song from Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Tell you notice it :P
TheTKC 2 years ago
Unused Battle - Reminds me of an arena. In the demo, there was an unaccessible colosseum in the Future. Maybe it would have been used there?
Keeper's Dome - Sounds more like another "foreboding event" song.
Choir - Sounds like it would have belonged to Robo's shrine, but it's unfinished so they didn't use it. Replaced by the Cathedral tune?
Alternate Battle - Are those some prehistory instruments I hear? Maybe each time period was to have a remix of the same theme, ala Sonic CD? Hmm....

keeper dome didnt really fit the mood of 2300A.D. (IMO)
