@DCkevantnet becuase he's fat, lives in the house all day, My parakeet is a super fast flyer, I let him fly around the house everyday, but that's a whole different story
that grey looks only very young and perhaps only learning how to use its wings for flyin and probably wont be able to endure a long flight but even so it's still not safe to free-flight a bird like that no matter how tame it is unless its wings are clipped.
nice vid tho but i wont let my 2 greys go like this not bcoz of the money im goin to lose but bcoz i dont wanna lost a treasured pet and for the fact that they may not even survive out there, unless it flies back home to africa.
It's even worse to fly a clipped bird outside, then if you lose it, it has a complete disadvantage of getting away from predators and of getting back to you since it can't fly properly.
We are professionals and our parrots are professionally trained to come back to us. We do this for the better quality of life for the bird, not for sport or anything else. But so that our birds can live the best life possible with us and truly be a bird.
@DaveWomach beware the red tailed hawk...They are fast as lightning and grab a bird in a split second.. I Know it happened , And all you can do is watch helplessly as they carry it away.....
@DaveWomach Great response! Some people here rather have a bird as a perch decoration than to permit the bird to be a bird. Training them to do this takes time and effort but it gives the bird a world of happiness and health. Plus, the trainer gets to enjoy the scenery and the birds they love been birds. I have macaws that I started flying in a gym and from time to time out in the plains. They are healthy happy. Thanks for your video.
If you ever want to fly birds outside. I would suggest you train pigeons like me and fly then at parks or anywhere. I trained and flew parrots for many years and have found that the smaller ones like the grays and smaller will be lost if freighten or gets chased by a hawk. They do not have a homing instinct to come back to the place they started. Pigeons will and that is why I have settled for pigeons when flying outside. Try it, it will less expensive and more enjoyable flying your birds.
When this is done correctly, you are able to minimize the danger. This is being done by professionals in the video. And you're right, you shouldn't do it without professional training.
I do trust you, actually! I've been really hesitant to do it. One of my birds I do allow, because he comes back. The other three, I clip every spring. I really do like to get them outdoors, but only under close supervision.
If you love your parrot and money. Do not try to do this because if your parrot is chased by a hawk. You will more than likely lose it because they do not have a homing instinct like the pigeon. I have trained and flown parrots for many years and learned that and have settled for pigeons when flying outside. Pigeons will take off into way into the sky when a hawk comes by and come straight down to you when danger is gone.
Actually, wild birds of prey aren't very fond of humans and are rather scared of them so I think as long as that bird stays withing 25 feet and enjoys what she does, she's good.
THATS THE BEST AGE TO STAR FREE-FLIGHT,,,GOOD LUCK ☼

Really lovely to see a bird in the care of professionals who are able to give her this freedom..... a shame most parrots are not so lucky.

Congratulations! I really am going to work on that with my birds. One of them is almost there. The other three need work. This is inspiring.
