  • Rupert Sheldrake has a theory that the birds are following a sort of fileds, much like electromagnetic fields, but he refers to them as morphogenetic fields :)

  • I used to live right underneath this great event and watched it every day. A house called Douglas Steading. It happens in the same place, exactly, every evening, year in years out. I only live 10 miles away now and was there about a week ago and there they were, thanks for posting.

  • That is amazing !!

  • Awesome.

  • OOOHHHH MY GOD !!

This is fantastic. too bad the quality isn´t too good. thanks for uploading

  • OMG! This is SOOO cool! I might have to go to Scotland some day just to see this (if it's still around).

A few years ago, I encountered a swarm of a few hundred barn swallows & just had an urge to walk into the middle of them. It was an exhilarating experience! I know they can be aggressive if threatened (or especially if their nests are threatened) but I just had to do it. They swarmed around me for a few minutes before I lost my nerve and left. I would never try it with THIS many tho!

  • There's a "bird" formation at 1:07 in your video. Yahoo featured different video of starlings that also formed a bird head image. Mean anything?

  • Hi. I am more inclined to think that it's an act of randomness but it's cool to see such formations. You can pick out all kinds of shapes and patterns I guess.

  • very good - you should go back and shoot it again. Can you get closer - and use a tripod - that would be wonderful to see. Its a really big flock

  • I will be going back as soon as the weather picks up again up here. It is pretty bleak and blustery at the mo. unfortnatley this was taken on a phone but I can get to another great vantage point which I discovered the other day.

Just realised how silly I sound on this vid.

Thanks again and here's to the humble starling (raises glass).
