  • can you make a DIY iron? or did it broke? XD

  • nice car! :D

  • Did you use a wide angle lens on the camcorder? It looks like you also had the stabilizer on the camera enabled.

  • you actually need an extra lock washer and an extra nut to lock in the weights to the end but other than that great vid thanks a bunch!

  • '

that is a nice to homemake the steadicam but too heavy weight

  • y otra pregunta amigo, el peso de la parte inferior debe ser el mismo para la parte superior cierto?

  • exelente amigo gracias por la idea, las pesas donde puedo conseguirlas

  • That´s a beautiful Charger you got there =D!! and thanks for the tip of how to make a steadicam

  • Would this work with a canon rebel t2i?

  • 作ってみたい!勉強になりました!

  • 2 nuts XD

  • @SuperVideoman12 You are kinda missing the point of the video man. if we are going to talk about steadicams that cost over $500, then I would hope it does a better job if you know what i mean.

  • @matttchapman There's no doubt he's creative. WAY better than the handheld. But I'm just saying.

  • @SuperVideoman12 I made the video over two years ago, but still thinks it has it's place for those who have no money for a good steadicam.

  • @SuperVideoman12 you don't have anything watched your videos ;)

  • @lilstonervideos Yes I do have one. Haven't uploaded any videos yet.

  • @SuperVideoman12 YOU DONT GOT SHIT... SHUT YOUR ASS UP, CUZ IF YOU DID THEN U WOULDNT BE WATCHING "MAKE A $30 STEADICAM" VIDEOS YOU BROKE BITCH.

  • what is the microphone you use at the beginning of the video, the quality to me sounds very good.

  • @blazraidr Sennheiser 500 series.

  • Alright just got back from my hour journey to try find a 1 1/4 and and 2.5 weights and would like to know where the fuck did you get those??? i had to use a 4.5 and a roll of quarters taped to my camera.

  • f***k the video! Nice wheels!!! :D

  • thumbs up for the ghetto DBX with the tape on it

  • I just want that car! Mopar! Nice work on the steady cam.

  • that there's a monopod steadicam... all metal, pretty heavy, but works great! thanks for your video :)

  • i got two nuts.... but not the other stuff

  • i bet your hands smell like shit after videoing. lol imma go watch the pvc video.

  • sweet!

  • oh man !!!! Dodge Charger!!!!!!

  • what and nice car this video was almost 3 years ago

  • could you list all the material in the description please? as my english is not so good i dont know how to find the material if i dont know how it is written :s thanks

  • could you use pvc instead of that metal?

  • @bBoyHeretic yep, click the pvc video below

  • @matttchapman thanks

  • Thank you so much!!

  • Bad ass Dodge Charger!

  • @pegruder Thanks

  • @matttchapman MOTHA FUCKIN SWEET DODGE CHARGER!!!!

  • @bestguitarist258 I like it.

  • @matttchapman me too :D

  • are you looking to buy a dvx100a for parts? if so...$325

  • ur uesful im going to watch you now

  • don't need to the steadycam, but about that car.....

  • This reminds me of Film Riots DIY steady cam haha

  • haha u talk like the guy from survivoman

  • Aahh NUTS! you should have gone nuts with your nuts! And btw i got BIG nuts! xD

  • I have a Sony HXR-NX5U, and will my camera be safe and not fall? Thanks for the tutorial I do appreciate it.

  • i have 2 nuts

  • I made this for my Sony NX5U.

It really helped. However, everything together is very heavy.

The camera is about 6 lbs and with 6 lbs of bottom weight makes it heavy for long distances.

But for the price I think it has turned out very well.

  • @ACLV100 If you increase the length of the bottom pipe, because of leverage you should be able to lighten the weights.

  • nyc

  • jstellar pictures: Cool dude . . but i got my steadycam at jstellarpictures(.)com hey cost way better then 500 dollar steadycams. Does me Justice

  • not technically a steadicam... you're just making the rig heavier and where you hold the rig is offset and then the same ammount of weight at the bottom so movements wont be as jittery if you were just holding the actual camera. Still cool though.

  • These DIY Steadicam ideas are great, but one of the big benefits of the actual Steadicam system is the arm/vest that enables one to use the Steadicam for significant periods of time without fatigue. If you try to shoot a wedding with just a Steadicam (and no arm/vest), you will be very sore.

  • ah yes two of my favorite things old mopars and camera stuff!

  • OK. To do a better steadicam, don't do the 'L' connection at the top. Instead, put a 'T' connection on the bottom, and place floor flanges on either end of the 'T' on the bottom. Hold it with one hand, just under the camera, and let it hang. No need for weights. You will get incredibly vertical and smooth steadicam

  • how about using a box or something it's not 30$ it's free :|

  • Thats amazing...I have a question...i have a canon t2i and i also need one hand controling the focus all time...Cold I handle this steadiecam with one hand and control the focus with the other without having visual problems or destabilizing of the image? THANKS!

  • I've started doing camera reviews and unboxings and I'd love to see you update this with some sample footage from one of the modern cameras with built-in image stabilisation. I imagine that the combo of the image stabilisation and the dampening effect of your steadicam would give you really rock-solid shots.

  • @mygoodstuffreviewed I like the idea. Will do man.

  • @matttchapman Hey, excellent! Thanks. Looking forward to seeing that.

  • wow! good work. thank you...very helpfull

  • When to Google where I have mail forwarded and saw your reply to me again so before deleting I watched it again and realized I forgot to Sub 2 U. SO I fixed that issue. How heavy is that thing? Does it get heavy fast. I know it is camera weight dependent but say a cam like yours, does it strain your forearms?

  • Kind of you to relay that to me. Rock on or we'll hurt 'cha!

  • Nice ride. I just got my '62 Lemans running. We could race and film each other lol. NIce job on the Vid by the way.

  • nice car man......and excellent tutorial

  • would this work for dslr cameras such as the canon d60?

  • @manboy1 Yes, but you don't the handle sticking out the side of this DIY steadicam. it will actually transfer movement fro the hand holding to the camera. All these DIY visedos are nice but they don't show you techniques.

you also need the rig to be slieghtly bottom heavy. (not much).

  • @aviatormxpilot a YouTube guy named WSCLATER has several and DVDs and classes I found whilst looking for same.

  • @101AOK Go to Tiffen's website, I bought the Bible on Steadicam use all 426 pages of it. "The Steadicam Operator's Handbook" by Jerry Holway and Laurie Hayball and the the Trainig Video "Steadicam EFP" I learend more fromthese items than anything here on youtube. But you gotta pratice, and whe you think you got down... Go pratice again and again, It's golf, if don't use it you lose it. Good luck my friend.

  • Would this work with a canon xl h1 camcorder?

  • @sodapopman5000 Yep

  • Legend.

  • dude i like that song!! wats it called??

  • two nuts? i already have those;DDD

  • Steady shirt...

  • HOW MUCH 4 DA CAR :U

  • hello i had a question about the camera stabilizer that you made a diy video about. do u think it would be possible to make it with different materials. like for example instead of using the steel pipes make it out of pvc pipe? ur timely response would be greatly appreciated.

  • @Ashaman18 Look at the video below. I already did this.

  • You drilled one too many holes and never put the gunpowder in!

  • If you're like me and need a stedicam but won't actually make one. Check out the Cam Caddie, I've obtained some great shots due to this apparatus. It's gone down in price too!

  • I have a Sony NX5U and it weighs 5lbs 11oz.

I used a 5 lbs counter weight and it did help a lot.

I also used 1" plastic threaded pipe rather than the metal.

    Thanks for the tip.

  • nice car

  • That you took the time to create this valuabe tutorial is moreb than generous. Thank you and here's to great filmmaking

  • @KLinZ3 Thanks

  • i thought those washers were mini cds

  • Is'nt suitable for DSLR canon 60D too?

  • I did something similar with my iPhone 4. Especially since it's a really small and lightweight device it suffers from the smallest of "turbulence" (the small movements of your arms etc). By simply strapping it on some weights, the whole thing absorbs my body movement a lot better.

  • HERO!!!!

  • THANK YOU!! I just made it and it works perfectly.

  • @trackattik Awesome!

  • 39 people have a $750+ to blow on a steady cam

  • Dude .. that's Awesome.......

Goes to show.. there's no excuse to get out and make your dam movie....

  • if I have a reaally light camera, how much weight shud i use?

  • @theCRAZYartGUY probably use more lightwieght materials and use the camera's weight

  • Very clear explanation of how to do it however getting threads on the ends of the correct length of pipes is not as easy as one might be led to believe. Any advice from anyone would be very welcome indeed.

  • @stephenr7456 If you go to a Hardware store or Home Depot ask for 1/2" galvanized nipples in 12" and 6" . Also if you have a small cam you could use SCH40 PVC pipe but I would use 3/4" or 1". The PVC pipe is also very easy to work with and looks better IMO..

  • can u make a cheap dslr stedy holder? thanks and great video!

  • Does it work with small cameras?

  • Great tutorial. I have a Sony ex1. Someone left a comment, "I would never put a $4000 camera on that thing". If I can improve my handheld for $30, until I can get the "real" thing, I'm with it. Would you recommend against it. Is there any particular camera safety issues I should be aware of. The way I see it, the only contact the camera makes with the device is at the mount, so what is the issue with attaching an expensive camera to it. Please advise b4 I build. Thanks

  • @RoughLuxuryRecords You always can attach the camera to your neck with a rope. In this way if the camera falls, it will crash against your soft chest, instead the tough ground...

  • nice car!

  • 2 nuts...lol that was funny because it sounded wrong haha

  • would it be possible to do this with PVC piping ?

  • 38 people use a Merricam

  • KipKay did this!

  • Chapster, I sure wish you had demonstrated the correct hold, stance, gait for best results ... ?!

=thanks for the hardware list and assembly instructions, tho ! =

  • @phrankus2009 Yeah, didn't think about that. The best thing to do is shoot some footage trying different grips, gates, etc...and watch the video to see what gives you the best results.

  • @matttchapman .. *YOU* don't SAY ??

... Somehow, I had already surmised "that" is exactly what you would say (if you responded) ...

Way ahead of you, on that one ! (LoL!) ...

    Thanks, again !

  • i'll buy that steadicam form you for $50.

  • cool steadycam.. but SICK car. 69 charger 500, eh?

  • What year is that charger I forget is it a '69 or '70

  • @RoRcrashslave It's a 69. The way you can tell the difference is the front grill on a 70 has no split in the middle.

  • it does make a hell of a difference nice work

  • I honestly think that this is one of the best DIY "steadicam" video on youtube... But in terms of end product, it's very hard to replicate a steadicam by making your own... I got a Glidecam HD-200 myself that really give me what i paid for..

But for this case, your DIY video is pretty impressive! :D :D

  • i love that wrinkled shirt!

  • Super job and save the money thanks buddy you are the best...

  • @ipsg101 Money saved is money earned. Thanks for watching.

  • @matttchapman Dude, Whats up with your DVX's lens hood?

  • Great tutorial. Thanks

  • No need for those articulations because it is heavy. The articulation is the human body articulation. Much easier to build and probably better to redirect. Very good.

  • машина клёвая

  • u could use ur tripod instead....

  • @nhiller26

Good idea. But you would probably need to attach some heavy thing bellow. I the end it is probably better to build this steadcam.

  • Could you tell me, how did you attached your cammera to it? i have a crapy Sony dcr-hc15 cam.

  • KIPKAY MADE THAT IN WEEKEND PROJECTS!

  • I recomend putting more spacers in the cap at the top. As much as you need so that the bolt fits in the canera without having a log bit between the frame anf the camera.

  • i think im gonna try this as well

  • how do you know how much weight to put on the bottom...?

  • @ButterOnMyBiscuit Weigh the camera!

  • @JamesWorley so i put as much as the camera weighs?.....i have a really small camcorder, maybe 1 pound

  • @ButterOnMyBiscuit Yes, try and match the weight of the camera as close as possible.

  • seriously dude. nice car.

  • @driftfreak6969 Thanks

  • Best part of this video is this awesome car... ;)

  • nice car

  • WOW! Is that a Dodge Charger RT 69?

  • i don't understand how you connect the camera to the steady

  • do you watch KipKay ???

  • Nice one, can't wait to build it. your videos helps

  • why is it always has to be two nuts.hahah

  • @x2j1 do you want tre?

  • @whiteland9992 no I don't want your xtra hehe. ty

  • mmh .. that fat cam + that steel construction is way to heavy :-/ .... need to got to bodybuilding to handle this...

  • I just made mines. Thanks. It works perfect on my zi8 & Cannon hf200. Now I just got to paint it. The best part i'm not even good at this. lol. I am going to use it in my new video Energy. Stay Bless.

  • Freakin amazin ... man ... WEll done

    '

  • @13makio Thanks for watching. Check out my other low budget filmmaking vids.

  • @matttchapman wow you got a nice charger r/t

  • very nice tutorial thank you!!!!! :)

  • ...Nice!!

  • nice car

  • this guy is awesome :D

  • I have finally decided to build a rig for my 60D and I decided to come back to this video for a very important reason. There are videos of a Spider-rig out on youtube as well (I already know exactly how I want to build that one) and then there is this - a more traditional steadicam. I wanted to know from you Matt and from other folks here that which is better - and or which one is to be used where and for what specific reason (of course being steady video the obvious one out)!!

  • Nice, simple, quick, and thorough. Thanks for this great tutorial. I'm looking into several options, but I might just make one of these. Thanks for taking the time to explain it so well!

  • @uglyrhinodotcom Both shots had the optical stabilization so it is obvious that it doesn't work that good using it for a handheld shot. The best thing is to have optical stabilization with a steadicam at the same time like the $30 steadicam shot in this video.

  • I always pair a steadicam with a wheelchair, which makes for a very smooth tracking shot. (Have one person hold the steadicam, and another push the wheelchair.)

Of course, wheelchairs are slightly more difficult to come by.

  • @uglyrhinodotcom I had anti shake on for both shots.

  • what will happen if the counter weights are heavier then the camera will it work better?

  • I yet don't have a HD Camera like you doo, What would you recomend for the Ipod Itouch?

    Great Video by the way.

  • two nuts.

  • oooo nice car

  • Or you can press the anti-shake button on your camera ( if you have that feature )

  • I was able to purchase all the materials for mine at Home Depot for $18.19USD. Thanks Chappy!

  • for $30 is the best it can GET!!

  • Please... IRON THAT SHIRT!!

  • @TheIndigentes hahaha

  • @TheIndigentes LMAO!!!!

  • I hope you just did this for fun. I would never put a $4,000 camera on that thing. haha

  • @psychedelnick1 Yeah really if you can afford such a nice camera, what's with the $30 steadycam? But in all seriousness, pretty ingenious and the footage looks great!!

  • I don't have a bike that has those handle bar grip pads, and I don't know where to find it. Does anyone know where I can get it by the pads itself?

  • Will replacing the metal pipes with PVC have any big effect? Because I don't think I have the drill powerful enough to make holes through the caps.

  • @samuraixyz No, although it's also opinion. I think it's better because it's lighter.

  • oh yeah and im using a Canon t2i.

  • Just made this right now spent about 17 dollars. It's not too stable but it beats handheld, I probably just need practice.thanks for the video!

  • Good video. Camera accessories are absurdly expensive. There's no way a basic Merlin should cost anywhere close to what it does. I'm guessing they just have a lock on the patents for this stuff to prevent competition from entering the market?

  • Needless to say, this is nowhere near as good as the real thing, but considering it's less than 4% the cost, it's pretty awesome! A universal joint for the handle would make it even better.
