They ARE giant balls stuffed with disgusting ingredients. The problem here is, nobody who is posting on this video has ever, EVER tasted haggis. Everybody wants to be "ethnic" these days. But Ubuntu says, you are not...unless you've eaten it. So if you claim to be 1/2 german/1/2 norwegian or whatever you claim...eat the ethnic crap. Eat rotten shark, giant balls stuffed with disgusting ingredients or freshly plucked deer balls. If you don't like it, you are not. UBUNTU

Well...I bought some traditional Haggis to give it a try...Cooked it, as per instructions.
To me, it smelt and tasted exactly like liver pate that's been heated up, with some herbs and spices added...maybe with a hint of Black Pudding thrown in.
Not good for someone who's dieting...But still quite a good taste to it. I'd buy some again, no problems.
If you like Black Pudding...then you'll also like Haggis.
@LetMeTasteYa The Greeks introduced it to Greece...Aristophanes mentions one exploding in his comedy 'The Clouds' in 423 BC...indeed oat porridge has been found in the stomachs of 5000 year old Neolithic bog bodies in central Europe and Scandanavia...(according to Stephen Fry)
ancient romans actually. it was an english cook who brought it here to britain and it was rabbhy burns who brought it fame in scotland because of his poem. but there isnt any evidence anywhere on who created it.
@numptybaws3 Big misconception. It's just meat that's not usable in restaurants. The tiny bits that are scrapped off the bones if you will. It's just meshed together, mixed with spices and then pushed through a tiny hole into an edible skin (*cough* of intestines *cough*). twisted, sealed and cut off.
Haggis is just ordinary fare in Scotland, it's not a right of passage for Scots and it's not perceived as luxury or gourmet food here - and we all know what it's made from. I eat it at least twice a month, with tatties and neeps (mashed potato and swede). Edinburgh is pronounced Ed-in-buh-ruh, or Ed-in-bruh, certainly not Ed-in-burrow
Not one thing about haggis sounds good to me,however I am of Scottish ancestry so when I visit my ancestral land,I'll give it a shot, who knows, maybe I'll have a spiritual experience,,,or just get the shits, one of the two:D
@USAdude30 what is it with you lot and your scottish ancestry? im mainly scottish but ive got irish, polish and english in me(only a wee bit) but i dont refer to myself as half this and half that, both my parents are scottish so im scottish, you aint scottish unless you've lived her since you were born, its a different culture, different people
I live in scotland. I've lived all around scotland, north, south, east, and west. And I barely see anybody eating haggis apart from special occasions such as robert burns day IF you go to the celebrations.
I was wondering if anyone knows what food was eaten in Scotland in the 1600s, and where i can find this information. PLEESE! I really need to know! I am doing a project for school and need to make a meal. Reply quickly as possible pleese! Thank you!!
I thought i would throw up eating haggis at first glance,,and tried it, i actually like it, there must be sauge or somethin in it cause it kinda tasted like my grandmothers christmas stuffing, which is freakin phenomenal!
This is all lies; haggis is a three legged bird with one of the legs being shorter which means it can only run up a mountain in a certain direction. If you want to catch it, you have to run in the opposite direction.
@GuysSeriously I wonder if you are English? They have a similar dish in England made from the liver, heart and kidneys of a pig. No Oatmeal, no spice and it's disgusting. It's made into little patties with gravy. The English love them. Want to know what they call this English delicacy? FAGGOTS. lol. For Real. They call them FAGGOTS.
It's actually not as bad as you think. I used to live in Edinburgh and had it homemade. I would try it again. Someone I used to know made a hash here in the US from liver, lungs and hearts, ground up. Served with rice. Sounds gross but it wasn't really. Was my favorite dish of hers.
I get to go over and visit Scotland with my studies abroad program at college. I can't wait to eat some haggis and talk with the fine people of Scotland!
I was one of those folks who was totally "NO WAY IN HELL WILL I -EVER- EAT IT." One day I found myself in Edinburgh at a dinner, and was given haggis as a first course- Well, I gave in to peer pressure and tried it (after holding back a gag from the first bite) I realized it tasted nothing like I expected (It was like minced salisbury steak) It really is just a psychological thing, most of us in North America grew up with, eating only the good parts of meat and avoiding the nasties X)

@endingsociety11 i cant belive this vid, haggis is best food in scotland, i mean scotland beats america by long way, good fisherys

In Louisiana they make a sausage with pork liver and organs, rice, spices its called boudin and its delicious. Haggis uses organ meat, oats, and spices. It sounds like a delicious good idea to me.
Much to his dad and mum's dismay Horace ate himself one day He didn't stop to say his grace He just sat down and ate his face "We can't have this!" his dad declared "If that lad's ate he should be shared" But even as he spoke they saw Horace eating more and more: First his legs and then his thighs, His arms, his nose, his hair, his eyes "Stop him someone!" Mother cried "Those eyeballs would be better fried!"
@sazji But all too late for they were gone, And he had started on his dong... "Oh foolish child!" the father mourned "You could have deep-fried those with prawns, Some parsely and some tartar sauce..." But H was on his second course; His liver and his lights and lung, His ears, his neck, his chin, his tongue "To think I raised himn from the cot And now he's gone to scoff the lot!" His mother cried what shall we do? What's left won't even make a stew..."
Still not as bad as vegetables.
