  • WOW. First I read the Hobbit in 4th grade, it was my favorite book. Then I read Hitchhikers years later, and didn't know there was a movie. Found out, watched it, LOVED IT. Few months later, discovered Sherlock. Found Watson vaguely familiar, but didn't realize until now... MARTIN FREEMAN IS CONNECTING ALL OF MY INTERESTS. WHAT IS THIS SORCERY?

  • I don't feel that the movie does justice to the book however it is well made/acted.

  • i do not get why there are dolphins at the beginning lol

    \

  • Martin Freeman makes this movie amazing thanks.

  • I HAVE A BOOK REPORT ON THIS IN TWO DAYS

    AND I HAVEN'T STARTED READING

    WTF DO I DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • @97kevinhuanle You missed out on the chance of a lifetime the book is amazing I love the book and you were assigned this book to read for school. Bow your head in shame thats what you do.

  • @heroesandcons09

Lol, the book wasn't assigned, in fact, I chose it. But yes, I am so angry at myself, but the teacher gave us until Thursday now, and I've gotten a chance to read it. It's such a great book.

  • Oh the rubbish version, The original BBC radio serial and the BBC TV version was better than the movie.

  • @z250B Agreed I like this version but the bbc tv version was a hell of a lot more accurate to the books. This movie though is shot better and has an interesting plot however its like a parallel universe to the books written by douglas adams.

  • 42!

  • That's real Sci-Fi! Star Trek & Star Wars are only trash. A greeting to Douglas Adams.

  • Narrator is same person who narrated little big planet!

  • this is shockingly disrespectful, how can you people say you like the movie in the comments. This blows my mind, if you like the movie GO OUT AND FUCKING BUY IT. SERIOUSLY WTF, this is one of my top movies of all time, spend & bucks on ebay, get it today, i rarely care about pirating and viewing illegally, but when you praise the movie in a youtube video that robs the producers of their money it defeats the purpose

  • @mrnoname1 yes. i'm sure the producers are struggling in hollywood-poverty because of our sinful ways. REPENT YOUTUBE VIEWERS! REPENT!!!

  • @mrnoname1 go home u loser! i bet your a bloody SOPA supporter

  • @mrnoname1 If you buy something on ebay, it still robs the producers of their money. You have to buy from a licensed retailer. Or, possibly, you could have gone and seen it in theatres, thus paying for the right to watch it and giving money to the system that produced and provided the film. While I do agree that you should pay for content, I also believe that watching something on youtube is not fundamentally wrong. It raises awareness of the film, or everyone involved, and a fanbase

  • @raukoiel that will then go on to support further efforts. I think the trade-off is usually pretty good for everyone.

  • @raukoiel an ad raises awareness for a film, or a tv spot, a cult following, and i did buy it from a licensed retailer, i bought the book as well, twice, because my first one got trashed. I try to support as much as possible for things i approve of, posting maybe just this video would have been great, because then people would want to buy the movie to see the rest, but posting the entire film is just disrespectful.

  • Calculate the chemical composition of tea leaves.

  • Don't Panic.

  • Only a Vogon would dislike this video.

  • This movie makes me happy to know that the universe isnt all Star Trek and Star Wars haha

  • 3:29 best man

  • Watch this video about 42 and then die happy -----> /watch?v=XMe8UaKY2gA

  • THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME MOVIE EVER!!!!

  • When you really think about it, people are retarded.

  • This movie is fucking shit. Don't watch it.

  • @xawesomex5 Then why are you here?

  • @Drowninginantimatter To tell everyone not to watch the movie you dipshit.

  • @xawesomex5 You dont get it, its just trying to say taht maybe the universe isnt all Star trek and Star Wars

  • mahi

  • The new film= ):<

  • If the world ends in 2012, i know what song I'll be playing

  • martin freeman is bilbo!!

  • MARTIN <3

  • I will never be able to see Martin Freeman as anyone but John Watson...

  • @TotallyTscopeTV Right? I'm not even sure if The Hobbit can help me.

  • quick question- why do people hate this movie? I actually read the series years after watching the movie for the first time then rewatched it. yes it's dumbed down and combined parts together into one movie but i thought it was very well made and gets the point across of the vast stupidity of human's and how they put themselves into perspective of the universe *rant over i thought the movie was smart and really funny kk bai guiyz <3

  • How come fewer and fewer people know how to use there/their/they're in the proper way???

  • @gyqz Well not everyone live in an English speaking country, why don't you learn Finnish in school? Why do I have to learn your language in school? Think how it would be for you if you had to learn another language in school (except for French/German maybe)...

  • @Fredde1Widde I was actually referring to people who speak English as a native language...and as for mine : I never asked you to learn Dutch, though I'd love to learn Finnish!!

  • @gyqz Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding. Terve = hello :)

  • @Fredde1Widde Terve!! (and this will probably be totally wrong....) Ei koskaan huolehtia! iloinen jotta kattaa te! In Dutch this should be something like : Hallo! Geeft niet. Prettig kennis met je te maken! :-)

  • The intro reminds me so much of Ecco the dolphin lol!

  • bill nigh......y

  • A perfect cast of Zooey Deschanel, Martin Freeman, Mos Def and the brilliant Sam Rockwell as Zaphod, and still this film really missed the mark. How did it come to this? It had all ingredients for success, even Adams' script, and still I prefer the towel before this subpar version of the HHGTTG.

  • If 42 ppl. dislikes this movie... Space and time as we know it. Will cease to exist!

  • 49 people are fags.

  • @EvilFileCabnets Really? Stephen Fry loves this book - it seems strange that he'd dislike it.

  • What do you mean not available on mobile

  • Yo make this available on mobile

  • If the base number was 13 not ten (if there were 13 one digit numbers) then 6*7=56.

  • @Aduro9 Actually, this is the story behind why Douglas Adams picked 42: "The answer to this is very simple. It was a joke. It had to be a number, an ordinary, smallish number, and I chose that one. Binary representations, base thirteen, Tibetan monks are all complete nonsense. I sat at my desk, stared into the garden and thought '42 will do'. I typed it out. End of story."

  • @hotelmario510 fair enough, it's still interesting to find coincedences though

  • @Aduro9 42 is a very ordinary number, that's why all those "coincidences" are easy to find.

  • this might be the only sci-fi movie that used (singing) dolphins as the opening scene and I like it.

  • @Stellaacee Screw it, it IS the only sci-fi movie that uses singing dolphins as the opening scene.

The film is weak compared to the radio series, tv series and book series, but it's still pretty good. It's H2G2, it can never be ALL bad.

  • @hotelmario510 well I'm not completely familiar with the tv and radio series but yes, it can never be that bad :)

  • @Stellaacee You should watch the TV series, it's brilliant. It's available on YouTube and if you know where to look, you'll find it.

  • @hotelmario510 I was planning to watch it, I've heard people saying (including you) it's great.

  • @Stellaacee It's much better than the film, and Peter Jones does a wonderful job as the Guide.

  • im sure he was meant to be lying in mud

  • @tomek123kotek Each version of Hitchhiker's is slightly different.

  • What did the Dolphin chorus say> All I could make out was "side by side"

  • @spnkypunky "Come, one and all, man and mammal, side by side in life's great gene pool...!"

  • I'd watch the other "whole" video/movie posted, but this one is so much clearer! thanks!!

  • Brilliant. Synchronised dolphin musical opening. Where else int he universe would you get that?

  • Quite possibly the best sci-fi movie and novel in history. 42 all the way to the the end of the world!

  • thank you! i am sick and so bored and i cant believe i was not rick rolled!

  • Here's a funny thing in my Sci-Fi class a year ago I had a but essay responds to do on the final exam, I was too board and didn't study and wrote 42 and got an A+

  • They ought to make a "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy TM" towel. You get it or you don't.

  • I didn't care for this at all- except for the Ford Prefect character.

Check out the BBC version. Slower paced, but true to the story, and great animation.

I can't believe this has as many likes as it does....!?

  • i am doing summer reading and before i waste 2 hours of my life is this anything like the book?

  • @brawlmaster234 Yes Sorta no it really is

  • @brawlmaster234 Sort of. The book is much better.

  • @Dragonfree97 Your right I typed that like a week ago then i finished reading the book it is WAY better it is amazing

  • This is SO MUCH LESS FUNNY than even the radio series which lacked the filled in details of the book for fuck's sakes man ANYWAY Ha's will be had I fucking hope in the later parts.

  • AND ITS BILBO BAGGINS

  • wonder how this vid will be? i heard somtin about fish and they mentioned this movies name

  • SO long and thanks for the fish

  • I know the real reason why this movie flopped, it was directed by Garth Jennings, who was related to Paula Nancy Milestone Jennings who wrote the worst poetry on the planet earth!

  • @TheJonvonn How does it compare to a Vogon's?

  • @Anyality According to Adams, her poetry was the worst written in the Galaxy :P luckily it was destroyed when the earth was

  • cheers man

    thx for posting

  • how did i not realize this was stephen fry?

  • Stupid Question I know, but does anyone know where I can find the music at 00:28?

  • how can 43 people hate this? uncultured swine :)

  • @illinicubbies Actually, it may be the hardcore fans of the book that hate the "Hollywood-ized" version of the series. So for all intents and purposes they are actually OVER-cultured swine. ; )

  • what the fuck is wrong with the audio ? i had to turn my surround speakers all the way up to even hear it, fix this garbage

  • to alllllll the froods out there.

    have a nice day

  • Does anyone else look this up just to listen to the opening???

  • Arthur Dent represents the Aquarian man, who survives the "end times" scenariofrom the nupass through his "house" (end of the Picean age) , right through to the beginning of the new earth. Douglas Adams was a genious.

  • @Jeorney you know if you look hard enough, you will see what ever you want too... take care buddy

  • @Brandonduboff Maybe, but when I watched the original series I saw this. 42 is the answer to the ultimate question. In the scrabble caveman scene, "What do you get if you multiply six by nine"? Arthur incorrectly says 42, when its really 54. But in base 13 (tridecimal) the calculation is 42. Meaning of life relates to 666° which is 54° short of two cycles (720°). 54° points between Age of Zaphod (Twins) in the zodiac. Although 666° (or 306) points to Age of Aquarius, number of a man. :)

  • @Jeorney In what tridecimal calculation, does it equal 42. 6 by 9? what makes you think 54degrees points to a constellation. and 306... or are you talking about if they were placed around a circle on a piece of paper or something?

  • @Brandonduboff Yes. 1 to 9 is the base 10 decimal which you use everyday. Tridecimal includes A,B,C before adding 1 to the next column (10). 13 relates the moon if you look it up, as 12 is related to the sun. They move in a 12 to13 rhythm, just like the hands on a clock. Orbits, & the circular zodiac can be measured in degrees. Look up Zodiac in the wiki and you'll see a diagram showing the degrees. You see the where the degrees points. 306° is 666 - 360, which discards 1 rotation.

  • 2) if you look at a zodiac chart and trace 666° (or 720° - 360° = 306° ) relative to Aries (0° ) you end up at end of Pices & the new age of Aquarius, or in other words, "so long and thanks for all the fish". If you looked up 54, you'll find a reference to cetus the whale which feature in the film. Its all astrology and divine comedy.

  • Hitchhikers has a little occult meaning hidden amongst the comedy, although not in a bad way. 42, 54 in the miscalculation in the caveman scrabble scene which is 42 in tridecimal - base 13), 666° is 54° short of 720° (two cycles). Since money (which is related to 666) is the reins by which they control us Pinnochios and survival instinct - our inner Pan. "Don't Panic" is etymologically derived from Pan. The quest for our missing 42 (or 54), don't panic. Look up "number 54".

  • @Jeorney why do you choose tridecimal? Why 13? your comment brings up numbers without any explanation. What is "2 cycles" when pertaining to tridecimal? and what the hell does a rein have to do with anything...

  • @Brandonduboff I explained most of this in your other reply. Money controls us, especially lack of it or fear of losing it real value. Its our means of survival & our control since it was invented. So it puts the shackles, or reins, on our survival instinct. 666 is related to mark of beast story in Revelations chapter 13 (notice the 13 again). Lots of people have found strange symbolism in bank notes, especially the Dollar bill.

  • i was at a camp and we were drawing numbers. i drew 42. and someone shouted out "she's the meaning of life"

  • ok, who messed it up by being the 43rd dislike?? nobody is supposed to mess up 42. they mustve forgot their towel........

  • @DarkAngelicSGTC there boned

  • I just had THE shittiest day, and this makes it so much better. OP, I love you so much. Just please hug me or something.

  • 42 dislikes :)

  • YOUTUBE: RESISTANCE IS USELESS.

  • @pottersuperfan1 True true but its nice to see diversity in the film. I liked this actor and i really like the movie he acted in be kind rewind so i wasnt to upset with him

  • @ohcountrar i actually watched the movie before i read the books and loved fords character! i didnt ever think that the book version was better, i just dont like it when movies are so far from the book.

  • @pottersuperfan1 i understand where your coming from, i actually got the book because i watched the movie. So I was a little shocked but didn't obsess over it because the book was just AMAZING that character changes in the movie didn't bother me.

  • Thx 4 yur time & 4 putting this movie up.

  • go to 4:18

  • i like fish

  • This movie is good, but it's a light comedy with not many reflexions, a poor imitation of a fraction of the first of 5 books wich had important reflexions. But still, a good comedy to pass some time!

  • Is the narrator the same guy that narrates Little big planet?

  • @DTZMasters Yes it is, Stephen Fry.

  • @biceryen thanks

  • BROCKIAN ULTRA CRICKET

  • this movie would be better without the non-stop 'comedy' incidental music - in my opinion.

  • Mister Dent. Have you any idea how much damage this bulldozer would suffer if i just let it roll straight over you?

    -How much?

    None at all

  • 34 Dolphins didn't get any fish.

  • If we're third most intelligent and dolphins are the second, then who's first?

  • @tjrana0 the mice.

  • the hitchhikers guide to minecraft

  • i think the tea cup broke before it hit the CARPET?

  • it's funny couse they cut out quite a bit of amusing dialog in this from the book

"i had to go down to a seller"

    "that was the record office"

    with a flash light

well the lights had probably gone

    "along with the stairs"

    look you got the notice

"yes i found the notice in a locked file cabinet in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door that said beware of the leopard"

    the plans were in display

  • 44th

  • 34 people ignored the dolphins

  • RIP Douglas Adams. I love you, man.
