well done...I would just add that at this point of time the Tendrils serve no purpose and they should be removed...they just take away a lot of energy that the lateral needs to grow ...and its all about reaching the top wire as soon as possible...once the crown is created and arms are on the wire... that is when you leave the tendrils on the laterals...
@carobnjak1957 I allow some of the tendrils to attach to the bamboo shoot. I do cut some of them off near the base of the plant once the lateral has attached itself firmly to the grow tube, whether I have tied it to the bamboo shoot or the plants own tendrils have attached themselves. However, you make a good observation.
This is a great start to growing some of that delicious Muscadine wine. Check out the video for "Muscadine Wine" by Ken Will Morton on my Youtube channel!
The grow tube acts like a mini greenhouse to accelerate plant growth. It also protects the young plant from rabbits and deer that feed on the young leaves and from herbicides that may be used in the vicinity of the vine.
what if im planting concord grape vines in my back yard? is it ok to just let it grow on my fence? i have no idea what im doing lol just seen a grape vine at the local nursery and bought it.
Realize that a concord grape vine has a downward growth habit so train the arms at 5-6 feet up the fence and realize that the vine will grow downward shoots. The fruit will be on the new shoots each year.
