I love my 1984 GMC Sierra 2WD half ton. Sure it gets 14mpg, but its a tank and built to last. I would not trade it in for any new car. foreign or domestic. Its carbed 350 small block is FUN to drive and will outlast any new car built today. Its so easy to work on too. Im only 17, but im a rebel of my generation. I love big American cars and trucks (pre-1990s). I say FUCK hybrids, hondas, and toyotas. Ive always been a GM guy, but i dont care if you drive dodge or ford. Im voting the nig out 2012

I still have a Caprice that's 25 years old and still going like it's never going to q uit. fu ck i still have the original transmission. had it for 10 years this past september (2010) . Far from perfect, it has been the most reliable car ive had. Still relatively simple and my mechanic said it's a pleasure to work on, save for all the years of oil spray underneath there. i will miss this car when it's gone. so will my friends.

At 15,000 miles a year, it costs(per month) $175 for gas, about $30 insurance, $50 maintenance? $255 per month? New car? $350 payment, at 30 MPG it costs $116 for gas, $100 for insurance, $25 for maintenance. $591 per month. Thats spending $336 per month to save $59 in gas. Sounds like a government idea! And for the record; IT'S NOT FUNNY!!!

I have a Buick Roadmaster that needs an engine, its engine runs, but my sister burned the head gasket, and it has been sitting since 2002....it wasn't eligible for C4C because it had no insurance for too long. I'd have been happy to trade motors with a Caprice like this before it went to the slaughterhouse.

Whether government finances its added spending by hiking taxes, borrowing, or by inflating the currency, the added spending will be offset by reduced private spending. Plus, private spending's much more efficient than government spending replacing it because people act more carefully spending their own money than spending other people's money.
C4C: Smart Politics. If Congress taxes you $500 to create auto jobs, the victims are invisible and are only revealed by asking what you would have done with the $500 if left in your hands. Your own spending would have created jobs too but you can't point to who the beneficiaries would have been. They're invisible. They could of used the engine for parts, but by doing what they did they made the parts such like: cams, pistons,valves,etc. useless. or they could've donated the car away for $1. or something like that. This car (Think about it) would not sell for $4,500 if it were on the dealership lot, especially if it were in good cond. Such a shame. If when you enter a store, 97% of everything in it, including the electronics had "Made in USA" on them instead of China, we'd be far more prosperous--we'd be producing what we consume, people would be working and able to buy cars at probably 50% less than they are now. There was no reason GM had to build junkers from the 70's to the late 80's, they just decided to.

They could of used the engine for parts, but by doing what they did they made the parts such like: cams, pistons,valves,etc. useless. or they could've donated the car away for $1. or something like that. They were good cars. What I mean by "produce" is the larger inudstrial complex that has been decimated over the past 30 years. If when you enter a store, 97% of everything in it, including the electronics had "Made in USA" on them instead of China, we'd be far more prosperous--we'd be producing what we consume, people would be working and able to buy cars at probably 50% less than they are now. There was no reason GM had to build junkers from the 70's to the late 80's, they just decided to.

You wanna make them clean running just convert them to natural gas. Burns cleaner then a Prius, and pretty much 100% comes from US. About $2000 to convert a car and has been done for decades. But no one including enviromentalists talks about it. Why? Why dump money into clean alternatives when we already have one that has the capacity to run for over 60 years? The shit burns 90% cleaner then gas, cleaner then diesel and hybrids combined yet no one cares?

Sure, we don't have the money for it, but our government has. They havo no debt, they will gladly give us more money to trash something else too.
Oh, here's an idea, lets demolish our houses and build new ones. And cut to pieces all our widescreen TV's, so that we could get new ones. USA, great country - realises that resources are infinite if you don't have any.

Remember, that already happened....Back on June 17th, the government turned off analogue TV and made us go out and buy new TV's! You oughta see the E-trash that is turning up now. At least the government started the converter box coupon.
A better way to do this would have been to have the "cash for clunkers" program resell the traded-in cars to needy people that qualified for like $1000 or something

Only Liberal Kool Aid Drinkers think this is ok. What a joke. A perfectly good car, dead, someone else could have used it. Free is free, even if it does get 18 mpg. At least there is no car note. Plus a Caprice, is a tank, you won't get hurt in that car.
