  • Back when Sammy made good music.

  • took a friend to her first concert this lp saginaw mi crank it on up

  • I love this sing...awesome heavy feel !!!

  • This was Hagar singing ?

  • This is a beginning of the metal era !!!

  • @hydraIX The metal era started in 1970 with the release of the first Black Sabbath album.

  • The Best.

  • This tune and Starliner did it for me. Ronnie's instrumental version of the Gene Pitney classic, Town Without Pity, was fantastic, as well. A NEW STAR IS BORN! Love this! A Happy and Hopeful 2012 to planet earth.

  • I used to have this album. It was a fave of mine at the time. Probably because they were high energy and totally hetro. Those were the days.

  • @briddle2 You said it!

  • First saw Montrose on "The Midnight Special" in I think '72....Blew my socks off, and have been barefoot ever since.

  • yup this iiiiis the shit! I've been listening to this since the 70s/highschool. It is still the best. If you like this go to my playlist and see my playlist in "My Life in the 610", My 70s Life, "Montrose" and "Journey Schon".

  • Fan-fukin-tastic !!!

This whole albums kicks ass. Now we are stuck with Justin Crapper etc.

Why oh why is there no music like this being made today ?!!

There is a hunger out there for real music again. Not the crap that is being rammed down our collective throats by the music machine.

I grew up with this music. I never really appreciated how good we had it and how low the music industry could fall.. :-(...

RIP real music. Oh well at least we can still reflect back to the "good old days.."

  • @whoreratio the reason this music is no longer made is because there are no more dirty white boys left they all got jobs indoors and shave all their body hair and don't like to get their hands dirty is my retarded opinion

  • "THE HEAVENS UNFOLD AND A NEW STAR IS BORN"! A COSMIC CHRISTmas 2011 to all on planet earth!

  • Sammy was @ Monterey Pop Festival !!!

  • @hydraIX That's because Sammy still gets it, man!

  • Is that a theremin in the beginning ?

  • This is the kind of Musical inspiratio that the generation of today needs !!!

  • This is Musick !!!

  • Love This Classick Crap !!!

  • Pre-flight lyrics for the night of December 24, 2011 -- "If the time suits you right, we're leaving tonight - - then, flyyyyyyy awaaaaay with me!" -- Sammy Hagar (the other guy in RED besides Santa Claus). A Merry and Hopeful Christmas 2011 to all of those on my favorite planet!

  • Somewhere theres a guy thats getting a new car stereo for christmas and I

hope this is the first thing he hears.Surley would be a good way to break it in.

  • @chrismancandy You said it!

  • Music like this, keeps my heart pumping! It's chocolate for the ears.

  • Mr. Claus will start off the night of Dec. 24, 2011 with this one. Merry Christmas 2011 to planet Earth.

  • @mickeymousebiker1 HellYeah Man,,You Rock!!!!

  • @jlr41877 I try, man. I try. I met Sammy a long time ago (during his "Red Rocker" days). He's a fantastic guy all-around. So is Ronnie Montrose! Say a prayer for Ronnie Montrose before and at Christmas 2011, so that cancer doesn't come out of remission to take Ronnie from us. I lost my Heavenly-Resplendent Wife, Barbra, in Nov. 2010 to cancer. Starliner by Montrose, would be another great tune for S. Claus to rip through Space/Time on the evening of Dec. 24, 2011! Merry Christmas 2011!

  • Visited space station # 5 in a smoke filled '70 Chevy Nova. Yeah, Yeah I did.

  • @garyulyssesking Me Too!!!

  • Nice u/l....do you have "We're going home" ??

  • This album and especially this song, influenced A LOT of rockers that came up a few years later. A WHOLE HELLUVA LOT

  • show you teenage son what you listened to priceless

  • Montrose and Hagar get plenty of deserved credit but let's not forget Carmassi and Church. What a debut album this was.

  • this was my fave concerts ....at the swing in San Bernadino BOOM

  • @elwap0 fucking airplane killed the best venue on the planet, huh? the swing was ALL berdoo had going for it. i saw the concert myself, slightly under the influence.

  • One of the best singers of all time.

  • it really rocks doesn't it?

  • @elvispresley718 Not half - I love the bit at the end where they speed up, it's a shame they didn't keep going!

  • I've loved this album since 1975 when I was 16. I'm now 52 and still play it to death. One of the best rock albums EVER!

  • @aartman01 your damn right my friend

  • @aartman01 i'm right there with ya bud ....weren't those the days eh lol

  • @aartman01 Same here...I was "11" and now I'm 46 and still diggin' on it!

  • @aartman01 I know what you mean I'm older than you and it energizes me

  • @aartman01 right there with ya dood.....51 here was awesome group

  • @aartman01 you got that right brother, this album kicks ass. I saw Montrose, Foghat and John Martyn in the same concert on November 7 , 1974 What a show!!!

  • great underrated rock band!!!

i used to love rhis album!

  • One of the greatest hard rock albums EVER!!

  • I used to blare this while driving my dad's Dodge Dakota when I was 16. That was 13 years ago, haha.

  • This album is nearly 40 years old now, and still sounds good today..... NO ONE has ever made a guitar sound like this.... Probably the greatest studio recording ever made. I rest my case.

  • KZEW the zoo rocks dallas ft.worth!!

  • Start with a Sun and move on out ...

Just came from 'Rock The Nation', and I'm with redbirdfan126 and ultraroadmap: you do not have a "rock" collection unless you have 'Montrose'.

  • this is a fuckin jam, how can you dislike it????...3 deaf people out there!!!!!

  • Back when Sammy could sing.

  • sometimes i like to lay on my neighbor's lawn and pretend i'm a carrot.

  • @stevieray345

You'r doing it all wrong, if you are waiting for a pretty bunny to come nibble on your goods!

  • I went to see Montrose in concert and was pissed because Sammy was no longer in the band....during the concert I borrowed a pair of binoculars to see Ronnie's performance up close and personal.....well, his eyes were as wide as saucers, I'm not exaggerating and he would play a few notes and bend a few notes....there is no doubt he was flyin high and he was trying to get through it all....this album is no doubt one of the greatest rock albums of the 70's if not of all time.

  • had a roomate in college in the early 70s who could technically air-drum this song to perfection. get drunk and boogie to this.

  • This is nothin' but the good shit!!!!!

  • Dudes Im just getting in to these guys and Im buying this on amazon right now this group is fantastic

  • these guys were the best THIS IS rock n roll at its best

  • one of the best......

  • Bougth this record in the late 70ties after having heard the song on Radio Luxemburg! Along with The Sensational Alex Harvey Band Montrose is my favorite band of that periode. Great record!

  • My dad showed me this band along with Black Sabbath and Trapeze back when I was about 12 years old.. hooked on the classics and REAL music ever since.. So glad I have an old hippie dad to turn me on to these purely amazing bands.

  • I remember getting baked and cranking this up on the headphones when it was new. The sad part is the headphones I had back then weren't that great. Gave true meaning to the word buzz.

  • It's going to be my going out song at my funeral.

  • I saw Montrose last night and would encourage every fan of this album/era to go out and see the most recent incarnation of the band. Ronnie's chops, tone and phrasing are as good as ever and and the band flat out kicks ass. The set list includes every song from this album, plus a couple of others from subsequent albums, including I Got The Fire. Smokin set......

  • years ahead of its time.....

  • ronnie and sammy should reunite

  • time to leave this planet, and head to space station # 5

  • Music for all of the great space flicks out there. Starliner and Space Age Sacrifice by Montrose are there too. "A new star is born" -- when Ronnie plays for the Big Guy UP THERE! Kudos to a guy who went through the hell of cancer and who can still play Rock the way it should be played. Ronnie -- you rule!

  • Whenever I hear this song I am blasted into outer space first class on a trip to Planet Happy f**king awesome what a riff what an incredible bunch of musicians the vocal delivery is impeccable and the end of the song is the best ending of any song ever. Phenomenally good.

  • Gay album cover but kick ass song.

  • @nholt Gay? How old are you? Do you say the word "Random" a lot, or the word "creepy" and now you say "gay" I bet you see gay in everything. Grow up.

  • I saw them in Flint, Michigan when I was 14. One of the best bands ever.

  • Best cover is from George Lynch!

  • Fuck,Fight,or hold the light..

  • HEY REDBIRD! That's fuckin it! Me too! This album makes me wanna drink, fight ,fuck, and rule the world!!!!

  • This has to be considered as one of rock & rolls top 10 albums of all times. It is quite amazing the depth of artist even after all the has come before and since...

  • This song is as awesome today as when it was first written and i just love the ending !

  • Classic Rock song. Always worth a listen

  • i really like this song and the whole first album. BUT sammy hagar sounds like a cheap plant/daltrey rip-off to me. Not a very powerful vocalist

  • @ediblehorse well I don't listen to my Zep albums but this;=)

  • Comment removed

  • Why does the part right around the first line of vocals remind me so much of On Fire from Van Halen? Haha

  • anybody who thinks montrose was average at best is an idiot...id say its true...he absolutely a virtuoso...rock on ronnie!!!!

  • best album ever created

  • Why 'Space Station # 5 ?'

They got this from the movie, '2001: A Space Odyssey' In the HD version, there's a shot of four people sitting down and to the left of them is an office that reads:

    HILTON

    Space Station 5

  • Montrose is an average rock player at best, and wikipedia declared him a virtuoso

  • @theShowStopper321 AVERAGE MY ASS YOU DON'T KNOW DIDDLY SHIT SO YOU CAN FOAD !!!!

  • Cruisin' , searching for beer and drive in movies with the sound turned off. Montrose blasting thru the JC Penney shit speakers and a girl and good friends by my side. Sorry to show my age but GOD DAMN!

  • These guys were way ahead of their time. Production excellent and just smokin'

  • hell yeah!

  • THIS JUST GETS BETTER WITH AGE... CLASSIC.

  • Rock hard, drive hard, live hard. This song defines my life.

  • one of the best songs out there.

  • I love that fatass tone. Fender Bandmaster with a Big Muff distortion pedal and a '58 Gibson Les Paul, can't fuckin' beat it.

  • OHH YEA, just one of those fuckin gems...PERIOD...all the best...see ya next time around............

  • Yeah, I saw Ronnie way back when, but you can't beat Rush's "Cygnus X-1"!! This is a great song of course.

  • I've still got this album packed away nicely although it's well played it still sounds just as good as when i bought it back in 1975. It's one of my prized LP posessions.

  • I could listen to this album the rest of my life; and never tire of it.

  • @redbirdfan126 Definately top 10 rock album of all time

People who slam Sammy because of his work with "Van Hagar" have never listened to this record

hey he might have sucked with VH but he co-wrote and performed some badass rock with Ronnie Montrose

  • @UberKrispy i think you got that backwords.......maybe they slam him for his work with VH.......because they are fans of his work with Montrose.

  • geil

  • This is why I have a Soundblaster sound card and Alesis studio monitors hooked up to my computer. Oh yeah...

  • well, now. i was here,i can tell you that. yeah, i was 15. fuck yes.

  • Rush fans: This is what science fiction-themed rock songs SHOULD sound like! Superb band and tune -- thanks for posting.

  • @mikal9000 Rush took science fiction-themed songs to another plane of existence: 2112.

  • what ever happen to ronnie?

  • I still have the original lp, still this is classic rock, then and now!!

  • I love this album, have it on vinyl and it still sounds awesome

  • @c1t1zenken Vinyl still rules!!!!!!!...lol

  • all due respect to ronnie montrose, most of the strong stuff on this album is Sammy Hagars doing. Great album in any case. it didn't get nearly enough attention on the east coast back in its day

  • @cell9song actually this is all ronnie montrose, hagar had the great vocals, but, did you hear the solo stuff hagar put out after leaving this band, the first couple albums are completely laughable, this was just a culmination of good band members

  • This may seem old hat but you'd be surprised to realize how few people know this is the REAL Sammy Hagar!!!

  • Fucking heavy guitar tone.

  • This song + Rock the Nation = Priceless

  • Can I get A HELL YEA!!!

  • I got into this album back in the 70's i especially like space station no 5..a truly unrecognized classic, much like aerosmiths "spaced"

  • Another of my favorites! Thank you!

  • The Best , most kick ass album of the 70s, had it all. No other band jelled like this. Not a bad song on the whole album. Awesome!

  • open this up in two different tabs and play them together....amaaaazing

  • @rosskstar GOOD FUCKING IDEA! This is why I have a Soundblaster sound card and Alesis studio monitors hooked up to my computer. Oh yeah...

  • Just played this for my 6 year old. Ear to ear grin.......there's no stuff like this nowadays, and I know I'm not being an old 40 year old crank, because the kid agreed with me.

  • @dekoninck98 haha awesome.

  • Such a timeless track! George Lynch didn't too bad of a cover neither! :)

  • hey everythingtaboo chill out its not like you own the rites to this song music should be free

  • Sickass guitar tone.

  • A little touch of ZEP.

  • Riff, Riff, RIFF! Laying down some timeless hard rock.

  • Yes play this loud...

  • one person is obviously gay.

  • like all albums from this time every song was good ronnie and sammy what a pairing

  • 1974 I was 9 in owen sound ont. this album and master of reality first albums i ever bought with my lawm mowing money HAGAR RULZ

  • @immafireflybitches I bought this and Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow ! In 75' then 2112 in 76' WHAT A GREAT FUCKING ERA !!

  • Holyshittt!!!! 53 years old & I'm bounc'n around my ofiice like a freakin maniac...space station #5 taken me back to when I was play'n 1974 to 85.....roll another 1...can't wait to get this home on the home system...mannn hope the kids don't read this...OH what the hell...once a rocker always a rocker LIVE ON RONNIE ALWAYSSS YEAHHHHH

  • @brikwallgoalie get the kids on it , its better than the shit they can listen to on the radio. god bless you old rocker dude, my kids love it, if they had listened to rap i would have had them adopted

  • Play this song loud, fantastic

  • Don`t worry... the guy who put this down as a dislike.... he`ll be caught soon and put back in the asylum

  • slick...definitely slick. A must own

  • Don't stop giving this out! thanks for sticking it to the man who relentlessy tries to stop me from rocking. You my friend are doing a good deed keep it up!!!

  • Bad ass tune !

  • This is why the I'm glad I was about 17 when I first heard this album in 1974. Great driving song. Rock music was incredible back then. Tons of great songs coming out all the time. Rock on!

  • @mddg1515 damn, im still stoned from the last time i heard this. ha

  • @SuperNomad420 I'm still stoned from the first time, in 74 or 75, when i was 15.

  • Air dry the Lamborghini.

  • I thought this title looked familiar

  • I heard once that the sound effects at the beginning are real whale sounds manipulated with a synthisizer. Does anybody know if that is true?

  • Awesome Stuff....have not heard these guys for 30 years....Mal.

  • This record is imho one of the premier rock records of the early 70s... My older bro brought it home along with the first Bad Co. album and I still pull out these records from time to time. Sammy Hagar has NEVER sounded better than he did on this record to me... The amazing producer and engineer team of Ted Templeman and Donn Landee (Van Halen, Doobie Bros, Little Feat, etc) recorded the shanizzle out of the Montrose Debut album! It still blows me away today! OH and Ronnie KILLS it too!

  • Thanks Redbirdfan....I haven't heard this stuff since I was a "youngen"....Great memories...

  • Every song on dis album rox.

  • one of the best albums of all time!!!

  • Classic...remember watching Ronnie practice on his deck in Belmont,CA in 82/83 :) good stuff!

  • I agree about "one of the top 5 rock n roll albums of all time"!! every song...ROCKS!!

  • Glad to see no Sammy-doubters trippin

on the vocals on this one

  • @yourunclehank1 He just kinda set the bar on this album. Definately HAS to be in the top ten rock n roll albums of forever. Around this same time I was diggin on Bostons first one and A-smith's ROCKs too. All classics in my book.

  • @fweekstir Yep. My high school days too

I laugh at the youngsters who come on

here and freak out and argue about older

bands that some of these guys were in.

Like their career started at the point where

They started listining to them. Younger people

don't get into an artist and try to find everthing

they can from them like we did(and still do)

Example: I've got a cousin that thinks Joe Walsh

has always been with the Eagles

  • @yourunclehank1 Fuck the Eagles ;o....In My not so humble opinion...I don't like Don Henley :D....Frickin'....Dale Peters n' Jim Fox >:P.

  • Has to be one of the best rock albums of all time. In the top ten.

  • Nice play list!

  • just found this LP in a thrift store and it souns even better on vinyl

    only $1

  • @EJG5150 Dude! That's a steal.

  • @glimmer2158 i know i found all the good van Halen albums some edgar winter ted nugent led zepelin... some poeple are clueless

  • @EJG5150 You are so lucky. Being 16, I obviously didn't grow up on records, but when I started looking for them, the record store near me was selling Zeppelin's "In Through the Out Door" for like $70.
