This tune and Starliner did it for me. Ronnie's instrumental version of the Gene Pitney classic, Town Without Pity, was fantastic, as well. A NEW STAR IS BORN! Love this! A Happy and Hopeful 2012 to planet earth.
yup this iiiiis the shit! I've been listening to this since the 70s/highschool. It is still the best. If you like this go to my playlist and see my playlist in "My Life in the 610", My 70s Life, "Montrose" and "Journey Schon".
@whoreratio the reason this music is no longer made is because there are no more dirty white boys left they all got jobs indoors and shave all their body hair and don't like to get their hands dirty is my retarded opinion
Pre-flight lyrics for the night of December 24, 2011 -- "If the time suits you right, we're leaving tonight - - then, flyyyyyyy awaaaaay with me!" -- Sammy Hagar (the other guy in RED besides Santa Claus). A Merry and Hopeful Christmas 2011 to all of those on my favorite planet!
@jlr41877 I try, man. I try. I met Sammy a long time ago (during his "Red Rocker" days). He's a fantastic guy all-around. So is Ronnie Montrose! Say a prayer for Ronnie Montrose before and at Christmas 2011, so that cancer doesn't come out of remission to take Ronnie from us. I lost my Heavenly-Resplendent Wife, Barbra, in Nov. 2010 to cancer. Starliner by Montrose, would be another great tune for S. Claus to rip through Space/Time on the evening of Dec. 24, 2011! Merry Christmas 2011!
@elwap0 fucking airplane killed the best venue on the planet, huh? the swing was ALL berdoo had going for it. i saw the concert myself, slightly under the influence.

@aartman01 you got that right brother, this album kicks ass. I saw Montrose, Foghat and John Martyn in the same concert on November 7 , 1974 What a show!!!
This album is nearly 40 years old now, and still sounds good today..... NO ONE has ever made a guitar sound like this.... Probably the greatest studio recording ever made. I rest my case.
I went to see Montrose in concert and was pissed because Sammy was no longer in the band....during the concert I borrowed a pair of binoculars to see Ronnie's performance up close and personal.....well, his eyes were as wide as saucers, I'm not exaggerating and he would play a few notes and bend a few notes....there is no doubt he was flyin high and he was trying to get through it all....this album is no doubt one of the greatest rock albums of the 70's if not of all time.
Bougth this record in the late 70ties after having heard the song on Radio Luxemburg! Along with The Sensational Alex Harvey Band Montrose is my favorite band of that periode. Great record!
My dad showed me this band along with Black Sabbath and Trapeze back when I was about 12 years old.. hooked on the classics and REAL music ever since.. So glad I have an old hippie dad to turn me on to these purely amazing bands.
I remember getting baked and cranking this up on the headphones when it was new. The sad part is the headphones I had back then weren't that great. Gave true meaning to the word buzz.
I saw Montrose last night and would encourage every fan of this album/era to go out and see the most recent incarnation of the band. Ronnie's chops, tone and phrasing are as good as ever and and the band flat out kicks ass. The set list includes every song from this album, plus a couple of others from subsequent albums, including I Got The Fire. Smokin set......
Music for all of the great space flicks out there. Starliner and Space Age Sacrifice by Montrose are there too. "A new star is born" -- when Ronnie plays for the Big Guy UP THERE! Kudos to a guy who went through the hell of cancer and who can still play Rock the way it should be played. Ronnie -- you rule!
Whenever I hear this song I am blasted into outer space first class on a trip to Planet Happy f**king awesome what a riff what an incredible bunch of musicians the vocal delivery is impeccable and the end of the song is the best ending of any song ever. Phenomenally good.
This has to be considered as one of rock & rolls top 10 albums of all times. It is quite amazing the depth of artist even after all the has come before and since...
They got this from the movie, '2001: A Space Odyssey' In the HD version, there's a shot of four people sitting down and to the left of them is an office that reads:
Cruisin' , searching for beer and drive in movies with the sound turned off. Montrose blasting thru the JC Penney shit speakers and a girl and good friends by my side. Sorry to show my age but GOD DAMN!
I've still got this album packed away nicely although it's well played it still sounds just as good as when i bought it back in 1975. It's one of my prized LP posessions.
all due respect to ronnie montrose, most of the strong stuff on this album is Sammy Hagars doing. Great album in any case. it didn't get nearly enough attention on the east coast back in its day

Don't stop giving this out! thanks for sticking it to the man who relentlessy tries to stop me from rocking. You my friend are doing a good deed keep it up!!!
This is why the I'm glad I was about 17 when I first heard this album in 1974. Great driving song. Rock music was incredible back then. Tons of great songs coming out all the time. Rock on!
This record is imho one of the premier rock records of the early 70s... My older bro brought it home along with the first Bad Co. album and I still pull out these records from time to time. Sammy Hagar has NEVER sounded better than he did on this record to me... The amazing producer and engineer team of Ted Templeman and Donn Landee (Van Halen, Doobie Bros, Little Feat, etc) recorded the shanizzle out of the Montrose Debut album! It still blows me away today! OH and Ronnie KILLS it too!
@yourunclehank1 He just kinda set the bar on this album. Definately HAS to be in the top ten rock n roll albums of forever. Around this same time I was diggin on Bostons first one and A-smith's ROCKs too. All classics in my book.
@EJG5150 You are so lucky. Being 16, I obviously didn't grow up on records, but when I started looking for them, the record store near me was selling Zeppelin's "In Through the Out Door" for like $70.
you can tell were IRON MAIDEN got their skills from they even like to play Ronnie Montrose songs...awesome...

There is a hunger out there for real music again. Not the crap that is being rammed down our collective throats by the music machine.

This is why the I'm glad I was about 17 when I first heard this album in 1974. Great driving song. Rock music was incredible back then. Tons of great songs coming out all the time. Rock on!

I heard once that the sound effects at the beginning are real whale sounds manipulated with a synthisizer. Does anybody know if that is true?

@fweekstir Yep. My high school days too
I laugh at the youngsters who come on
here and freak out and argue about older
bands that some of these guys were in.
Like their career started at the point where
They started listining to them. Younger people
don't get into an artist and try to find everthing
they can from them like we did(and still do)
Example: I've got a cousin that thinks Joe Walsh
has always been with the Eagles
yourunclehank1 1 year ago
@yourunclehank1 Fuck the Eagles ;o....In My not so humble opinion...I don't like Don Henley :D....Frickin'....Dale Peters n' Jim Fox >:P.

@EJG5150 You are so lucky. Being 16, I obviously didn't grow up on records, but when I started looking for them, the record store near me was selling Zeppelin's "In Through the Out Door" for like $70.
