The cops were doing their jobs..the law was called because she BROKE the law. Defacing property that does not belong to you is a crime (also, it is not a victimless crime.. the tax payers have to pay for the clean up). If it teaches her a lesson then great. When I was in school if I broke the rules, I was sent to the principals office and my butt got to meet his paddle first hand. Now, teachers are not allowed to put their hands on a student for any reason. Also, what used to be school infractions are now law infractions. Criminal behavior has consequences regardless of age.

@ylen13 I think you are missing a couple of points, firstly, for any parents, we, as parents first and foremost have the responsibility to teach our children what is right and what is wrong, not the teachers or the police. Secondly, the girl did wrong, she vandalised public property, that is property paid for by you the tax payer! Sadly some, perhaps poorly educated people can only blame others where they fail!
Is suing for unsubstantiated amounts of money the answer to THEIR problem!

This is happening all over the country. It started with one incedent in a school somewhere a few years ago and the school went ballistic. Some asshole judge validated it and that 'made it so'. It escalated from there. Now as more and more schools are and have adopted this totalitarian attitude they're all doing it. It's out of control now. We are becoming a totalitarian society.

OMG! 8 hours Community Service? MY gawd! ¬.¬ when I was a kid I was expelled for breaking a window. Justified? at the time it felt unfair, but hey. Realize it...kids find these gang tattoos and clan symbols like they are cool. Back when I was in HS, we had people carry Nazi Emblems, eraser art on their Notebooks etc. And maybe this is what lead to issues that we have today in HS. Shootings, suicides, etc. The School did good until they let her off.
