Who would've thought a simple tip could go so awry? It's a really good tip. Keeping your hips and shoulders "rotating" perpendicularly to your fly rod keeps you from having to change your rod tip direction during the strike. Stripping only pulls 3 feet of line out of the water and doesn't allow for your rod to react with the fish and the line bounce will throw the hook. Setting the hook downstream gives you more power against the fish and a shorter distance of line to pick up. Not gay, correct.
I was fishing for redfish at the coast and I had the drag set but it took me too long to tighten it and then the 20 lb braided line broke. It was a huge fish too on an 8 ft rod.
More people creeping around the internet looking for stuff to bad mouth. Maybe you should spend your time doing something positive instead of running around talking smack about other people. It must be nice to have enough free time to comb the internet looking for people to speak poorly about. You must have a whole lot of great stuff going on in your life.
It's ok to talk about "rotating your hips" and it's also ok to wave like a fruitcake.
But never ever set the hook like a sissy.
Fly fishing 101 - there is no need to set your hook on a small trout - just strip the line.
Again: hook set not necessary.
Considering this, how unneccesary is this video?
Please, feel free to call me a hater as if we are discussing a hip-hop video or something. Trust me, no one hates on gay guys dressed up in toolbag fly garb.
It's about what you do before you set the hook and when to do it. News flash... to set the hook you wrist flick the rod sideways. Try listening instead of hating.
Strike indicators are for poons.
