It works because Herbert lom was usually a serious intense dramatic actor. Watching such a dignified man unravel into a gibbering wreck was funnier than if Dreyfuss had bene played by a comic actor.
@usaeagle1776 That kind of funny movies died with the 70s... All that junk they crank out today isn't worth spitting on it compared to great 1970s comedies.
@BlueCougar :so very true. blame it all on political correctness. you can offend anyone anymore because you will hurt their feelings or called a racist. sickening.
Poor Inspector Dreyfus, will he ever be rid of Inspector Clouseau? Well maybe if he kills him...Do you believe I know people who think this isn't funny? I pity them!
I am a huge Inspector Clouseau/pp fan and cannot thank you enough for your impeccable taste and extremely funny scene along with so many other. The pp series is nothing short of slapstick at it's best.
Why can't I simply share something as priceless & beautiful & funny as this on facebook? Where pray tell is the harm in that? Laughter is the cure all medicine.

Ladies and gentlemen... honored guests... dear friends... We are gathered here to say... GOODBYE to a... (looks at his speech) a great man! Not only was he a model police officer, a brilliant detective... (coughs) Admired and respected by his fellow officers and all those who were fortunate enough... enough... enough to know him! He was above all else... a MODEST MAN! His kind will not pass this way again... and our lost is surely... HEAVEN's GAIN! LMAO!!!
"I *hated* him intimately!" This scene is nothing short of hilarious, made even more so by the fact that everyone else, especially the chief's wife, believes Dreyfus to be deeply grieved, rather than beside himself with glee. The scene where he is interviewed on TV about Clouseau produces the same effect.
PHENOMENAL ACTING !!!!!!!!

Inspector Dreyfus is played by Herbert Lom (born as Herbert Charles Angelo Kuchacevich von Schluderpacheru), and he is alive and well at age 94!

@5inthehole this scene is nothing short of genius and showcases the brilliance of Peter Sellers as the bumbling mustached karate chopping Clouseau.
