Mas Oyama specialized in Tensho and Sanchin Kata. It is true that in kyokushin there is less kata practice then let's say in shotokan, more time is spent for kumite, and the results shows.
In my opinion individual kata practice and performance is strictly intimate and can not be judged by others . I think kata standards in competitions , create the illusion for a perfect kata, but sometimes it can be superficial. I think kata without the experience in kumite is useless, so ...for those who are good only at kata, go and fight full contact a little bit.
Yeah I do agree with everything you said right there. Kata is a very personal thing, and even the application should be personal. I'm just saying that when I see kyokushin karateka they dont seem as dedicated to kata as other karateka, with the exclusion of sanchin. Obviously its not a setback for you guys as you still kickass, its just a neutral observation.
Maybe it's because the training for kumite takes up most of the time, or maybe the dojo leaders are not encouraging kata, or maybe we are not forced at testing to do the kata perfect.
Yeah... whatever it is, you guys are still top notch fighters, different paths up the same mountain is how I see it, there is never only ONE way to do somthing eh?
