Thank you, you do good work. I just repaired a few cracks in my house the wrong way, it looks like scars. I think I did not widen the cracks enough, Will redo it next time like you did.Thank you so much for your posting. By the way, I like your "store card" tool. I won't throw them away anymore.

Thank you so much for this video. I need to repair some wall cracks in my old home. I have never repaired a wall and this info you've shared makes it look doable. My home needs a lot of TLC but I am not wiing l to spend the outrageous amounts quoted to me by professionals. Again thanks for helping this novice in home repairs.
@tjzeimetz The best way to deal with hairlines is to make the cracks fillable, so just drag the edge of a screwdriver until the crack is open enough to fill , a v shape is a good way to describe what you need to create.
its best to use filler rather than plaster, as filler is designed to be sanded smooth, getting plaster smooth is a skilled job and is also unsuitable for a previously painted surface unless the whole surface is being skimmed this also requires skilled preperation.
if you have a lot of medium-deep cracks in your walls, i think my walls are drywall, can your house just fall down???? sorry i'm 12 and i'm not an idiot but i don't know a lot about walls and that kind of stuff. and can someone please answer me
@FunnyCats582 Hi i dont think your house is going to fall down! they could be settlement cracks, but if your worried get your parents to have the house checked by a builder or surveyor.
Love your cat vids by the way , great work for twelve yrs old.
Wish I found this before I took the clerks advice at the hardware store. My plaster job is a mess...but am going to do better on my next rooms, I hope. lol
Up until viewing your video I have made a complete hash of every crack iv filled in our house, it's 3yrs old now so we've cracks in everyroom. Well just redecorated another room and thanks to you it looks like brand new! No cracks and no uneven repairs, Cheers dude!!
Just tried this yesterday and came out OK . However , I can still see the fiberglas tape - does that mean I did not use enough of the spackle ? Should I add another coat ? I also used a credit card for my application - I like that method . : ) I had to get inventive so I started a repair in a cellar hall. The ceiling was too high to reach so I attached the spackle to a foam brush and hooked it into a mop handle . Rather be messy than fall again : )
@doogleandalix hi sounds good so far, yes you will need a second coat, be generous and spread the filler wide of the tape, when its dry sand from the edges first to blend the filler to the surrounding surface, take care sanding over the tape rubbing too hard might expose the tape!
Thanks - you have been so helpful.! As for the patent , somehow I doubt anyone else would use it - lol . Still , good for cheap people like myself who do not care to hire out and for those who are a tad clumsy and have suffered a few broken bones from falls . As they say, " necessity is the mother of invention".
BTW - your music you have playing is so relaxing - love it .
One more question if you have time - I did the second coat -may need a third as I can still see the tape :( Anyway , in the past I had used some spackle on a ceiling and when I painted over it , it looked shiny and was visible through the white semi-gloss paint . Any tips on how to avoid that ?Thanks !
@doogleandalix Hi you could try priming the filled repair before putting your finish over the top, but i think a semi gloss will tend to show imperfections, you could try using a matt finish which is less likely to show the repair.
I'm a gal and you made that look fairly easy : ) Can you just use a premixed joint compound to apply over the self-adhesive tape ? I have some cracks in walls and a ceiling - afraid of ladders after having had a bad break with an ankle , but I think I will tackle the wall myself .
Thanks - I am not going to attempt any ladder work myself but the wall seems worth a try . We had TONS of snow last winter and many roofs collapsed so I think perhaps that caused the cracks . BTW - I see that this video is about 1 yr old - did the tape /filler hold up or did the crack come back ? My relative works for a builder and he is coming to make sure my crack is not a structural issue - says he has old stress cracks and ignores them-seems odd .
is scrim used to create a key?
what joint filler do you recommend.
good video

Best tutorial on YouTube! Doesn't need commentary as long as you're a visual enough person to watch all the way through. This really helped, thanks!!

@doogleandalix The crack in question didnt come back ,the house shown is about six years old and has many superficial settlement cracks.
I think you are wise to seek advice if cracks begin to "appear" especially in an older property.

I like that you use a credit card as a putty knife, and make it look easy, and show the consistency of your mud.
