i work on PCs and I use Artic Silver and you are only suppost to use a little dot because when you put the Heatsink on it will spread out, to much you can have heat transfer issues. i have had Gaming Buddys do the amount you did and it failed but mine has not I still have my First gaming PC being a Server now and no overheating issues.

you guys can laugh but this is the only thing that works long term the pennies act as heat sinks and they transfer the heat to the outer shell.i have tried putting in screws and that lasted about 20 mins then off again. I did the penny way and it has been running over a week now no problems at all.

when you send it to Microsoft they put these heat transfer pads in but the dont work as good as the this.

I left my X clamps off and replaced with screws and nylon washers. Its not really necessary to have the clamps. I did this job too, rrod came back after a year and I repeated this process again. Fixed it again. Its a pain but takes about an hour to fix in total. Leave the xbox to dry for at least an hour b4 using again.

after you put your heatsinks on your newly applied thermal paste your soposed to connect the dvd drive, put it in place. then connect your fan. and lay one part of your fan over the dvd drive and the other over the tall heat sink. with the stickers facing down. DONT PUT YOUR FAN SHROUD IN!....yet.

now plug in all the cords. HDMI FIRST THEN POWER. turn the unit on and let it overheat for about 30 minz. then turn it off&let it cool down for 25.

Never trust a fat guy in a clown hat. To start the rrod is casued becuase of heat, which lifts the chips off the mobo due to lead free solder. When it rrod your too late, cooling it will not help, the damage is done. Second of all this might work yet only for a short ammount of time becuase all you doing is trying to push the cpu and gpu back down fixing you connection, but that will not work for long becuase the heat will continue to push the chips off until it needs a reflow.

@grimy89098 it was an 0102 code, unknown. no message, i was playing in multi-match makinging and it froze up on me, so i shut it off. when i restarted it i saw the red ring of death 3 bars to be exact, the xbox start up screen never started, its just black :( thanks for your help. it was made 10-11-07. im just really disappointed in Microsoft, my original xbox still works never had any problems, and my Ps2 i received in 9th grade in 02 still works.

@killingod98 the copper in pennies absorb heat better than those little pads microsoft put on. i highly rcommend using 8 pennies byputting 2 in each make sure u wrap them with elec tape REALLY WELL! no holes, 2 pennies ensures they wont move and absorb more heat.
