samethings happening to mine and a power issue....please help i got this for a christmas present and it worked for a couple of days then now its just all messed up...
That is a problem with the inverter... Usually happens when you're laptop overheats and burns it. I would replace it. It's moderate on the difficulty scale, but is cheap and will fix your problem
go to system properties - device manager then go to the bluetooth radios , expand to dell truemobile 355 bluetooth , double click , go to power management , uncheck the option says " allow the computer to turn off this device . this should fix it , a little extra battery consumption but it worth it
I've got the same computer and it makes the same noise when idle. I was told it was a ram problem and that there was nothing I could do about it, though if you have a solution I'd be very happy to hear it.
Could be that something is not making a good contact. I had a similar sound on a Compaq, turned out to be the AC socket on the laptop wasn't soldered well enough and it would heat up and make that noise.
my fujitsu has the same damn high-pitched whine/buzz/squeal/whatever. Core 2 Duo processor. If I leave it on overnight, when I get up it's doing it. If I'm using the computer, it doesn't do it. If I turn the computer off then on, it'll go away then come back.
thats what my laptop does!!! i have the same model and its so annoooying!!! is it to do with the harddrive or what cos i wana stop it lol i ignored it but i thought some laptops ran silent
its the CPU changing different power states. Put a load on the processor and you'll notice that the noise changes. You can disable the C4 and C3 power conservation states with some software tools and some BIOS features will disable them. This is a big problem for using a laptop for recording audio.
Had a sam problem on Asus G1s. I returned Bios on version 205 and the problem was solved. So... If you dont have a very very good reason to upgrade Bios, DONT!!!
Yeah, there's something wrong there. It does sound like the hard drive is spinning more than needed. Could be an easy fix. I own an Inspiron 1520, and mine is totally silent.
Mine just started doing this yesterday, arghhh. I'm sure it's related to the backlight somehow because the pitch changes whenever I change the settings on the backlight. Plus I'm getting flickering, screen blacking out and other issues. It sucks.
I have the same laptop, just got it 2 weeks ago and it makes the misquito noise all the time, sometimes stops... but everything is working so I guess I'll just have to ignore it.
It's normal, its your processor and your video(graphics) card in most cases. There is nothing wrong, it is just running like that since your graphics card may be integrated instead of silent.
Try to open an application and check if it is making the same noise. If it does, or if it just gets louder, then there is nothing wrong. Because you are running an application, the video card needs more power and heats up easily when going on full power so the fan runs even faster to cool it down...
my 1520 laptop recently started making a high pitched sound, its not like this one though, its more constant somewhat like a whistling sound but it goes away when I unplug the laptop and only run on battery.

That's a fan that's making that noise, for sure! Our Dell Dimension does the same thing and we have to tilt it ever so slightly to get rid of the noise. If you can replace the fan it might help, but don't use the exact same part/make though. I will be recieving my Inspiron 1520 in a couple of days and I hope it doesn't do that. If it does, I'll replace the fan. Or some WD40 might do the trick.
The high pictched beeping/whine is not a fan. Lower noise you can hear is. Its intel core 2 duo whine and affects many intel based laptops. Its caused by processor changing power states causing some resonance in capacitors that is in audible hearing range (pizoelectric effect). RM clock prevents processor from going into power management states so keeps it quiet, although the lack of power management means battery life takes a hit. If using battery set to max power saving. Will run quiet.
this helped for me on the same system : go to control panel - system - device manager
under bluetooth radios, go to dell truemobile 355 or whatever it might be called on your laptop - go to properties - power management and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" That made the noise disappear in my case
This is far better than RMclock since no third party software is used and no max out cpu
Heya, bought my Inspiron 1520 not long ago and on the first day it made this sound. I've contected DELL and they know of this problem but they wont solve it. Since this problem pass their test they can deliver them to you in this condition. But for all of you who still have a problem, download RMClock. Installed it today and the sound is gone most of the time. Good luck
i got mine in blue , 1.8ghz, vista which is crap and centrino core 2 duo, 140hd and 2gig ram with a nvidia g8600gt graphics card for £600 but the microphone dosnt seem to work.Anyone know why? its very quiet when running but whats going on with the mic?
Aren't laptops supposed to make a little bit of noise? Especially loaded ones? The freaking hard drive is louder than that buzzing. Does anyone have a fix for the Dell WiFi card LED light not working?
I have a wireless n card on my 1520 along with 2 gig ram, 256 video card, and 2.0 ghz core 2 dual and it makes that noise. I think it's normal but I have no clue, someone present evidence that it's not suppose to make that sound. (like a website or a dell email somehting along those lines)
Hi! I have the same problem but with a different machine. I have an older IBM R51e, but the problem is the same, i can hear that sound, but only when i use my notebook only with battery. At the moment, when I plug in the AC power adaptor, the sound stops. That is why I think, that is somekind of power supply related problem.
Thanks a lot solidsnake4119! Why? Let me summarize... I bought an Inspiron 1520 on Sunday. However, there was a noise coming from the notebook, especially in quite environments. Anyway, today, I gave back my 1520 because of the same disturbing high frequency noise that was coming from the left part of the keyboard. At first, electronic store manager did not accept that the notebook is disordered; however, I used your video as an evidence and when he watched this, he was totally shocked! :)
I have the 1520 with core 2 duo 4mb cache 2.0 gighz
high end video and audio set, and i donto have that noise, when the fan turns off there is no buzz or hum and i have the wifi on all the time.... sounds like there is a problem with the motherboard or some other component... does it make that sound when the fan kicks on or is it always there
yea i think its the wifi because they have a db gage idk but i think the wifi puts out sound if you look at wifi setings it has a db decible gage or sound loudness thats what i think but u know my fan is louder than high pich noise so i dont bother it have you posted this on the dell forums?

SOLVED!!!My Inspiron 1520 started to make this noise too.All you have to do is to follow my steps:
1.go to display properties->screensaver->power
2.There if you have set at the power schemes Home/Office Desk set it to Maximum Battery(quickset) using APPLY!
Try to make this step (choosing de scheme)staying with your ear in the area where the noise is coming and then click APPLY .
You will hear that noise again from time to time but.... 90% slower and not continuously..

Google for "1520 noise"
It seems that the noise is related to Intel Processors and not to Dell.
There are some workarounds that will reduce the noise and that may actually make it completly dissapear.
