  • what's he singing instead of "I'm a shock trooper in a stupor"?

  • @muchtoocrazy "I'm a Nazi baby, I'm a Nazi."

  • @miLKpwNS1993 Thank you!

  • For some reason it's not letting me post the 2nd ½ of my response.

  • @guitarslinger48 I find that kinda funny since ½ the band @ that time was Jewish, but even more so cuz the very next line is, "I'm a Nazi schatzi ("baby" in German), you know I fight for the Fatherland." Frankly, I think the shock trooper in a stupor line is much better anyway. It's funnier, more picturesque, more Ramones. I guess Bonzo Goes to Bitburg atoned for this.

  • @tjburroughs Dee Dee probably wrote it as "Nazi schatzi" but Joey had a 'unique' way of pronouncing words and sang it like "Nazi skot-zi".

  • Some of the stuff was on rumors of them. Like Phil Spector threatening to kill them if they left. He didn't. He just wanted company and didn't want them to leave. He had guns, but had a license to carry them, and they had keys so they could leave. Johnny got tired of how they stuck microphones in his face when he wanted to be somewhere or was in a bad mood. But I'm not sure about the racism. You might wanna look that up.

  • wheres Tommy??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • When did they change the lyrics from, "I'm a Nazi baby, I'm a Nazi yes I am" to "I'm a shock trooper in a stupor, yes I am"?

  • @tjburroughs

Seymour Stein said the song was offensive and insisted they change the lyrics before it was recorded.

  • Why doesn't anybody ever say Dee Dee R.I.P? It's ALWAYS Joey...I know why the don't for Johnny cause he was a dick.

  • @xDeadMisfitsx Dee Dee was always my favorite.

  • @xDeadMisfitsx i know dee dee is one of my idols dude i mean the other dudes were cool too but dee dee kicked ass

  • @xDeadMisfitsx I read that Johnny was the coolest of them. He was friendly, and he liked to talk about movies. Dee Dee was okay, and Joey had to get used to you. Tommy was good too. Johnny was uptight in the beginning, because he went to military school from being a punk (punk being used in a bad way), and later relaxed more. But anyway, R.I.P. Joey, Johnny, and Dee Dee.

  • @stinkydo0d What, in End of the Century movie and On the Road With the Ramones when it talks about Johnny they're like oh yeah he was pretty racist and mean and hated interviewers.

  • 16 dias depois que eu nasci... (16 days after I was born ...)

  • Joey Forever !

  • Thanks for all , Joey.

    You're the best.

    I miss you .

  • Ein, zwei, drei, vier!

  • Hoy tu amor, mañana el mundo

  • 100 likes 0 dislikes. ;D

  • One of their best songs !

    PUNX NOT DEAD!!!

  • dee dee made some good songs and joeys voice is so fuckin good

  • R.i.P dee dee

  • @technohead oh doof right on

  • did they ever record this in a studio - what album is it on?

  • @davidelder Serious? It's on their first record. C'mon, man!

  • if you watch "end of the century", johnny mentions that the song was originally called "i'm a nazi baby", but they changed the title and the lyrics because seymour stein, who owned Sire Records, was jewish and wanted them to change it for him.

  • @dramone100

yes, and kinda funny that a jewish boy sings the song?

  • The Ramones came before and influenced both The Sex Pistols & The Clash.

    Dee Dee wrote this song.

The original lyric was "I'm a nazi baby. a nazi. yes i am" the producer asked them to change the lyric and they rewrote it with the shock trooper lyrics which i think sounds a million times better anyway.

There. No more fights over factual shit that anyone could look up.

  • @DeadJ0ker27 i had understood that they didnt change the lyric, thats what johnny ramone said in the movie end of the century

  • @SidEskorbuto

I don't get what you're saying. If you listen to the album version they clearly did change the lyric.

  • @DeadJ0ker27 what am saying is that in the movie "end of the century" johnny ramone said that they didnt change the lyric

  • @SidEskorbuto

MORON. FUCKING MORON. STUPID FUCKIN MORON.

    DUMB FUCK IDIOT DICKHEAD!

Nah I'm just fuckin with you. But yeah whether johnny ramone said that or not is pretty irrelevant when you can just listen to the album, which is undeniable proof they did change the lyrics.

  • Check out at :25 where Johnny hits the strings so hard that he loses his pick. He then pulls a second pick out of somewhere and doesn't miss a beat. I remember getting this album on cassette when I was 16, I guess in 1980. The songs on their first album were so short that the cassette played the whole album through on each side of the cassette! That way you never had to rewind the tape. I have also always loved the way the Ramones took the music seriously without being pretentious. Awesome!

  • Joeys got balls and spunk to be singing this! R.I.P and R.I.P CBJB's

  • @BluntObject1234 he was jewish

  • @consityis1 yeah he was. He's got balls to not let a song like that bother him. Let alone sing it.

  • i wish i could of been there

  • everyone shut up, we love the band, the music's kickass, the songs are the best around, noone on this comment page is rigt 'cept the guys in the vid - The Ramones.

  • The song was written by Dee Dee,who was born in West Germany.Many other Ramones songs reffer to Germany,all written by Dee Dee.But Ramones W E R E N O T N A Z I S!Stop fighting like 5 year old kids..

  • IM A NAZI BABY

  • He HATED Nazis. If you're pro-Nazi, then he would hate you, you ignorant fuck. You don't understand the song. By the way, Joey was Jewish. You hate Joey, asshole?

  • lol chill the fuck out i was just saying what he says u think ur so punk lol ur love for the ramones hahahahahahaha chill out for real idiot

  • Saw the Ramones for their first concert in Detroit in summer of 1976. there were only about 25 people that showed up for the concert. I remember after they played about 2-3 songs I went up and stood under Johnny Ramone and just watched him play. I had never seen anyone play that fast before!

  • Wonderful!

  • i just love early ramones. i get not calling it punk. butt its straight up stripped down rocknroll, which influenced a ton of future punk bands

  • It is Punk, original Punk, not the stuff that is called "punk" today...the Ramones started it all! If not for the Ramones Punk would not exist.

I know it is stripped down RnR thats what Johnny called it,"punk" is what the "press" called it...cheers!

  • You get not calling it punk? That's retarded. They defined punk! Like saying Chuck Berry isn't rock 'n Roll. But whoever said Ramones aren't really punk probably doesn't even know who Chuck Berry is. Go back to your Green Day you ignorant fucks.

  • @yogikuddha what i was saying was in 77 the first clash album came out (not sure exactly) and that is punk as fuck compared to what the ramones were doing then. i dont wanna argue about what's punk and waht isn't cuz that is just silly.

  • @ridintheconcretewave the clash copied the ramones dickweed

  • What a wonderful video. Thanks for posting! I have seen many early videos of the Ramones, but this is one for the ages. Great job, exumedcat. If you have others, feel free to share! :-)

  • oh my gooood it´s so good it´s my favourite song it is a catchy record

  • intense

  • LOOOVE this song! Thanks for sharing the footage

  • la verdad que si una de las mejores

  • Una de sus mejores canciones

  • this is pretty awsome. great song!

  • w joey

  • JOEY GENIUS

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA, HE WAS THE MAN!!

  • no on the record it originally was supposed to be Im a Nazi Baby yes I am...but semour stein said cmon guys change it up or i cant have it...so they changed it for studio but live they said im a nazi

  • "I'm a shock trooper in a stupor, yes I am a Nazi Schatze, I fight for the Fatherland" ...that's the later version

  • It was Dee Dee's lyrics.

  • @TheChaotician he is the little german boy being pushing around.

  • @rockrocket yea

  • @rockrocket There was just someone saying Johnny wrote this

  • It was Dee Dee's lyrics.

  • interesting that the first line of the verse "I'm a shock trooper in a stupor" is not in these early versions of the song. The line made the album version.

  • great

  • Every time I hear the C-G-E-E progression I expect it go C-G-E-F : /. That's the only problem with this song. I love the outro.

  • I was like you once. That being the first time I heard this song. But 'ey, it's better this way. The melody makes E sound like a resting point. For a band that everybody says is so simple, this song is pretty genius.

  • Joey wasnt a profesional singer. he just sang the way he wanted.

  • This is my favourite Ramones song. It is so raw.

  • can anyone answer this question? Joey sings the first verse up high but by the time they get to the end, he has dropped down to a lower register. right? isn't it off key towards the end? I love the ramones. great video.

  • i dont hear him going off key or dropping his voice an octave but joey is pretty well known for going off key and "making mistakes" since that was just part of his singing style

  • It's Punk..not Opera...lol

  • Joey did whatever the hell he wanted to.

  • written by a German-American and sung by a jewish kid = great ironic and yet, kick ass rock'n'roll.

  • yea

  • baddd ass shit... houston rools. damnnnn my favorite band. in my hometown...
