The weak mammals needed most of their predators and rivals to go extinct in order to become dominant. Perhaps mammals are the only animals capable of evolving to reach human intelligence. First you have to understand the difference between a theory and a scientific theory. A theory of mine is "we were all created by the invisivle flying spaghetti monster" but this isn't a scientific theory, because it dosen't mach up to the criteria of falsification, it can't be provien wrong. A scientific theory should also mach up to other criterias like objectivity and validity. Go read any basic book about the scientific method, from any field of science, or look it up on the web.
