yes at this point disco had died and the career and records dried up and drugs were heavy...his new albums then in 81 tanked dont see rick finch on bass either
I remember the opening of the festival that year. I didn't know that the third song harry sang that night was the first one he ever composed. I used to like it a lot but as far as I can recall it was sung by "The Hues Corporation", a group that was in Víña del Mar a few years before
Jerome Smith, the guitarist was killed July 2000. The current band has performed on many occasion since 2006. There latest performance was at the Hilton in Hawaii 31 Dec 2007.
The band that performs now is not the original. After Rick and Harry Wayne parted company in 1981, there was a period where Harry Wayne was having little success, probably due to the decline of disco. Harry Wayne came out of retirement in 91, because all of a sudden there was a new interest in disco again. He formed a band with new members and began touring again. It was reported that most of the original members of the band are now deceased.
Also as a matter of note. The band was actually formed by Rick Finch and Harry Wayne back in, (if my memory serves me correctly) 1973. Oh yeah Harry Wayne is Casey (KC). I know that George McCrae sang "Rock your baby" which became a hit in 1974, a song written by Rick and Harry Wayne as a side project involving George.
However, like parrdr3 has mentioned, a lot of what this band was about was due to a gr8 deal of time and input by Rick Finch. He also wrote a lot of songs in collaboration with Harry Wayne. Songs like "Get down tonite" "That's the way (I like it)" "Rock your baby" and so on.
I firmly believe KC would be better sticking with penning lyrics rather then trying to deliver them. After all, I have to say he has written some gr8 songs that many artists have sung and their delivery has brought gr8 success.
I never thought much of his singing. His success is due to those around him. His muzos, backup vocalists, and the prop presentations. We have never seen him deliver a number with the feeling, soul and intent of so many other artists. KC and the sunshine band were just a commercial after thought that happened to satisfy ordinary people who got off on mediocre performers. Sad but true.
Come on, some of the comments are not friendly, KC is just a guy who likes funk a lot, and he seems to be very happy on stage and people around him too, so what's the problem?? Music is all about enjoyment!
I love KC&SB, but this is not their finest moment.

La Banda de KC , aunque encasillada en la Onda Disco q no se definió como tal hasta el 75, tenía mucho de FUNK..
solo escuchen el groove de "Boogie man" o "i get lifted".
PD: The Sunshine Band fueron la banda tras JIMMY BO HORNE.
